Roman’s response to Kerri’s distress is genuine - he can tell she is sincere in her reaction and he relates to that honesty, especially while surrounded by the vultures and vampires at the wake.
I just found this channel. Very entertaining. I feel like I have a hard time finding youtube review channels that really discuss things and get into spoilers. I love the way you break down the "#1 boy" at the end. Now I have to go back and watch all your previous reviews! :)
Karl had me on the floor laughing in this episode. Such a pig of a man. Kendal in this episode really reminded me of Michael Corleone from the Godfather films.
Kara Swisher is the kind of person to unironically brag about her friendship with Ghislaine Maxwell. The show is about people liker her, not for people like her.
Kara Swisher definitely has interview moments that sound unnecessarily harsh or awkward. I will say that she has pretty good insights from a tech and media business standpoint and has good DC connections. One of the few episodes that I love is with Jen Psaki with her take on Gerri’s phone call to POTUS to handle the cruises situation.
just want to defend Kara, obviously she is reading the show in a very different way to you but I don't think she's wrong to focus on the business, the show is about abuse and relationships sure but it is still about business power and money and Kara has real experience in that world and I personally find her observations very interesting. i think it's a bit weird to pretend the show isn't really about the business side because it absolutely is, its also about all the stuff you guys being up sure but I don't think Kara is doing a bad job just a different one, I like getting multiple view points on an episode and I find her interview style very informative
I love this podcast, just found you two today and binged all your S4 vids. I'm a loser who still doesn't have ad blocker so slightly contributing to your financial health hopefully 😂. Also I am still a Kendall stan! He's my favourite character throughout the show but Roman is always good and I like Shiv the most in the latest episode and excited for her rise (and probably inevitable fall).
Looking at the other underlined paragraphs, it does look to me like Kendall Logan Roy was crossed out. Still, great job from whoever designed the paper to make it look so ambiguous!
11:30 - I totally agree on Lucy Prebble on that podcast - she's a drop-dead genius - and she was just as good when she was on a couple episodes ago. And I actually don't mind Kara Swisher but I'd definitely rather have you guys do the interviews. I guess the value of Swisher and the not-connected-to-the-show's-production guests on that podcast is the revelation that the nuts and bolts of the world of Succession are more realistic that I would ever have imagined. Like the authors of the Sumner Redstone book. When I first start watching Succession it just seemed like plebian wealth porn about the lives of disgusting rich people but that other podcast has convinced me that reality is actually more like Succession that I'd thought. As for Greg, I loved him until he dropped the ball on that suit with Uncle Ewan. Kind of like Carcetti and Peter Gerrity's judge character on The Wire. Or like Dominion today when that snaky lawyer told Anderson Cooper they were going to screw their employees. grrrr - I can't separate myself from how evil this type of person is. 26:00 - yeah, I definitely agree that the Hugo blackmail thing was way too easy and convenient writing-wise
Karl gets burn of the week, his roast of Tom *chefs kiss* As to the Roman Kerry thing I agree that being Logan’s mistress is part of it, but Roman is the closest to Caroline and I just wonder how much that is part of it, like watching her get kicked out of her fathers house and just cast aside so easily. Like when she was on top it was on sight but now that she’s a kicked/abandoned dog - idk it just made sense to me.
When they’re the ones that get to sleep at the foot of the bed he’s jealous of them, but now that Kerry is being kicked out he empathizes - the dog motif is clearly very important to me lol
Lmaoo this seems to have been a rough season for Greg fans so far... not all of them though? I've seen comments like "what happened to my boy" and also comments like "hell yeah Evil Greg I hope he gets even worse". I'd say he's one of my favourite Succession characters even though I find him insufferable at times (like, a lot of the time during this episode). I look forward to seeing how his character/storyline/dynamic with Tom will develop/continue the rest of the season.
I guess you judge "burns of the week" by humor per word? I agree that "wouldn't even hug his own grandchild" and "look at us both" hit it out of the park by that metric but if you're judging by actually burning somebody to ashes, Karl's takedown of Tom was kind of conversation-ending.
It’s Sweden as they are going to “bleed the swede” Also, how creepy is it that that’s how Hugo talks to his daughter?! Seriously, WTF?! Great discussion as usual!
OH MY GOD, thank you for the Kara Swisher hate. I couldn’t even finish this weeks episode of the podcast because of her utter misinterpretation of the show. As always this is one of, if not, the best succession podcast. You guys truly care about the show, which as someone who thinks this is the best show on tv, is very appreciated
I love that you are trying to be gregnaustic this season. Kara is not a serious person. I wonder since the kids forced Logan to ask for more money if the swede will want to offer less now that the share price has tanked. Also I have always wondered how Tom and Shiv met, she never worked at the company before they met so it seems to me that tom sought her out.
I feel that Roman has the potential to unleash the immense amount of empathy and natural arbitration skills (as the middle child of the family he must be the comedic relief and compromiser) due to Logan's death. One can argue that the kids' negative traits all stem from the nature of their father, but this take completely removes the agency of these individuals far beyond the implied lack of agency via their professional and personal lives due to Logan. The show has demonstrated that in private moments, each of the kids are provided moral dilemma's. Roman generally chooses a moral, or altruistic, means of settling a situation. His handling of Kerry in this episode is an honest take of Roman without worrying about his father's adoration for ruthlessness. Rather than doubling down on the attack option when seeing his father's sweater in the Study, he chooses out of real empathy rather than fear of his father's ghost, to NOT pull a negative-hit angle on Logan's legacy ahead of their ascension. Additionally, he knows it makes good business sense not to shit on the previous CEO while the general feeling is he was the only competent guy at the company. A lot of people I talk to about Succession have a different interpretation than I do concerning Logan offering Shiv the job. I believe, at the time, Logan did actually want Shiv to take the position in relative short order as a means of capitulating for the Pearce-Royco merger while retaining the dignity of it suddenly being 'his' idea. However, notice how immediately when Logan says "Come into the office and shadow me for the day." Shiv immediately comes up with three reasons why she cannot apprentice that day. Shiv poured cold water over her own ascension and then complains when she's passed over. Every single time Shiv is given a modicum of responsibility in the company she avoids that responsibility and deflects it as much as possible. Roman and Kendall, for all their fuck-ups, at least try and accomplish the tasks given to them. Edit: We've seen Kendall actually cry and lose his shit emotionally multiple times. His 'cry' into Stewie's chest is 100% a manipulation tactic and not an actual Kendall break-down. I found it to be one of Kendall's more scum-bag moments in the entire show, as Stewie has reached out several times in S1-S2 in that way for Kendall to shut him down, and when Kendall does accept Stewie's friendship in this episode it's immediately to cut into a deal. I found his objection of "You really trying to sell me on this, now?" To be toned with disgust and immediate observation that Kendall's little dasani-water-bottle tears were completely fake at his own father's wake.
Woow, I wasn't expecting your review to come till Thursday!
Super happy now, thank you both :)
Roman’s response to Kerri’s distress is genuine - he can tell she is sincere in her reaction and he relates to that honesty, especially while surrounded by the vultures and vampires at the wake.
Frank’s description of Tom was priceless!

Willa is my pick for candy baby this episode the choker?? at what was basically a wake? slay
great choice of screencap at the start of the video... i really love kendall's evil smirk

I just found your channel after last episode and now I look foreword to these every week!
I'm gonna miss this show so much!
Whoa, early release, nice!
Greg was an utter worm in this episode.

when Succession's over I hope you two will talk about other stuff! you're a joy to listen to

Not only could you be making money from this, you SHOULD be making money from this! Keep up the great work!

Greg is terrible but in such an enjoyable way! He's a little skittery cockroach man and he's great
They were right. Shiv didn't have experience to convince the board. They can hire her after they take over.
Haha bs. Shiv has a Board seat, neither of them do. Minimizing women is all they’re good at.

I am in complete agreement on Kara Swisher. She seems to lack insight.
are you guys on spotify?
I love that you are trying to be gregnaustic this season. Kara is not a serious person. Has anyone figured out the timeline and the odds of Shiv's baby daddy being someone other than Tom as a result of their open marriage?
I think I actually preferred this episode to the last. Hilarious pledge drive btw.
Good episode but I thought Kendall saying “Do me this favor or Hugo to jail” was a little out of character and weird
kara isnt great but did you ever try listening to season 1 of the succession podcast? the guy they had hosting it was just awful
So they made the right decision and removed him haha. Kara Swisher been clinging on and being about as unlikable as possible haha.
Lol really had to call me out in a video like that, huh?
i'll kick you 1% of our earnings
@@JenniAbere I'm gonna hold you to that
What is wrong with my powers of observation that I had no idea the fascist presidential candidate was gay?
