Thank you very much for sharing this. Very interesting findings. I worked in a university for over 20 years, I did not notice any bias against anyone based on their ethnicity. These findings might reflect the personal preference among academics but certainly not policies implemented in any university. Such findings might have values in implementing policies to rectify university staff to slowly influence their personal preference but should not be interpreted as bias in academics community in general. After all, there are too many factors that might influence a person's personal preference. The preference of female applicants to male ones is a very telling detail given the fact that academia is still a male dominated profession!
You do realize that you only see what you see, not the bigger picture right? Don't know what you are on about mate. Please, don't pretend it's your first day in Australia.
我在澳洲一間洲立高中任教物理及數學,我多年來出勤率都在98%以上,學生口碑也不錯,更重要的是我的教學經驗及相關學歷都是最高的頭一兩個教員,但我一直要教一些低班,原先以為每個老師都要分擔一些低班,除了一位最資深的老師,但後來有新人加入,我的另一班高等數學又被換成一班低班,我才發現學校只要有老師想教我教的班,我就會被取代。這樣的事情發生了四次,而我並沒有發現其它資深老師有同樣的遭遇,我這才明白背後可能真有一些種族偏好在內,管理層對我其實還是有照顧的,如不讓我去教特別頑皮的學生,所以是偏見和同情並存吧。
需要反抗,表达不满,不然没人会重视我们
@ykialy 有呀,有對話,也有試著找比較重視成績的私校,但大部分情況連回覆都沒有,更別說面試了。我的短板是並非澳洲師訓出身,有15年的教學經驗是在香港,雖然通過了語言水平測試,但還是有口音。我唯一一次面試機會是有對方想問我英語水平,我把我的教學視頻連接寄去,他們才放心,但最後他們也只想我教低班。暫時只有留在目前中學。
如果有偏见,只有一条 -- 老师更喜欢回复成绩好的学生,因为他们需要人给自己做科研写文章。对某些族裔有偏好一定是因为在他的统计数据那里某些族裔成绩好的比较多。如果他因为偏向族裔而去回复学渣,那是跟他自己过不去。没有人会傻到会这么做。
换个角度说,有些种族的学生是不是遭人厌烦的比例太高了?这样的种族,能愿意搭理回复就已经是同情和照顾了。
