    Can you imagine how demoralizing it would be for your team to have 70 freaking shots and not even score once! Hasek was the best

      Or having a 98% save percentage and getting credited with a loss

      Imagine how Brodeur felt after making 49 straight saves and losing.

      We put Ryan miller threw the ringer as well atleast these sabres teams had a backbone and would stand up for hasek if he was crashed or ran

    Best playoff performance by any goalie in the history of hockey.
    70 saves, 4 overtimes, shutout, win. #Dominator

    Best single game goaltending performance ever by Dominator and best combined performance by both goalies ever.

    The interesting thing I noticed about Hasek is that he didn't just rely on the big acrobatic saves that he's been known for. He was brilliant in making basic butterfly saves as well.
    The Dominator was the perfect medium between the chaotic stand-up goalies of the 70's and 80's, and the modern pure butterfly goalie. Hasek mastered both the basic and extraordinary saves. He didn't stay on his knees 90% of the time, but he was capable of making basic stops regardless. At the same time, he was capable of going off-script and making crazy 80's esque poke-checks and two-pad stacks, but didn't over-rely on his reflexes to the detriment of his positioning. Hasek blended old-style stand-up and modern butterfly in a unique and near-unbeatable combo.
    If I was a goalie, I'd emulate Hasek (Although I prolly won't be a goalie since I don't wanna spend 2000 bucks on gear 😅. Hockey equipment is already crazy expensive when you're a skater (I paid 800 bucks for equipment), so I don't need extra cost haha).

      I don’t think it’s possible to emulate his style. He was one of one.

      @@fralf4381 I gotta agree tbh.
      One can try to imitate the Dominator, but he had flexibility and reflexes that were second to none, so it's impossible to truly become Hasek 2.0

    Thanks for putting this together! But i'm somewhat disappointed with my memory at least. I thought I remembered an amazing stop on a breakaway. It must be that beautiful save on the 2 on 1 that I remember and mixed it up after all these years. Im glad I saw this so I never mention the amazing stop that I witnessed that really didn't happen as I remember it!

    There are definitely some amazing saves in here, especially that glove save vs a 2 on 1, phew. It does seem like 60/70 shots are just past the blue line slap shots with no screen - a kind of shot that would have a modern goalie raked over the coals for ever letting one in. Incredible how much the sport, and the style of goaltending, has changed in nearly 30 years.

    Hasek was perfect that night. He had to be or else. Maybe the best goalie performance ever. Brodeur was also. Devils, however, would win this series in 8 games because game 6 was really the same length of 2 games. I wonder if they would've beat the Rangers if they had beaten the Sabres in regulation or in OT that night??? Who knows?

    The '99 Sabres really had no business being in the finals....but Hasek nearly carried them to the cup. If not for that one call, it might have happened.

    • @bjarczyk
      @bjarczyk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree with this statement. Lindy Ruff had them playing a really good defensive system to support Hasek and then the power play took off during the playoffs. That 99 team deserves more credit.

      @@bjarczykin a way you just proved his case.. 😅 he said that they had no business being in the finals.. he didn't say they didn't deserve credit which he probably agrees on that.. you NEED a pretty solid power play to make it to the Finals and for them not to have had that going up up against Dallas and rely on Dom.. well there ya go..

    My dad was born in Buffalo in 1954 and saw many Sabres games in the 70's. Then he moved to Springfield Massachusetts and had me in 1990. He's told me many times before that he had to listen to this game on radio and that he fell asleep in the backroom at some point, and when he woke up they were still playing lmfao

    You just witnessed the fewest quality scoring chances in NHL history. HOOKING! HOLDING! TACKLING! SLASHING! CROSSCHECKING! INTERFERENCE! A gorilla could have played in that net and there would still have been zero goals.

    • @SirGalahadCtny
      @SirGalahadCtny ปีที่แล้ว

      You know nothing, John Snow.
      Back then equipment was so less thick - You probably don't see it on this quality video, but if I admit ten of those would probably be stopped by that gorilla of yours, it still makes 60 goals if not for really amazing goaltending - 120 minutes of tension and full concentration - you don't realise that, but those players knew who he was and tried to surprise him with slap shots in hope some of those 5 holes would eventually break... P.S.: Did I mention you know nothing, John Snow?
