    Great review, and comparison of the two boots. You gave a perfect explanation of the two boots. The video is balanced with objective facts of the boots and subjective of why you like certain differences. I'm a Parkhurst man. I like the fit and style of Parkhurst.

    Great segment, spotlighting a brand that quickly becoming one of my favourites, Pankhurst. I’ve purchased 2nds and Original models and have been so pleased with their quality, fit, and design. Andrew @ Parkhurst has been fantastic to work with during my research and purchases. Still haven’t tried out Grant Stones.

      I had to return my Grant Stone Diesel Leo last. 9.5 was too loose, especially in the heel with tons of heelslip. 9 was too snug in the forefoot and still loose in the heel. The upper vamps were also touching when I laced them up. Parkhurst 9.5 fit me perfectly and lock the heel in so much better right out of the box.

    I own some of both. There are things i love about each brand, and i think you pretty much nailed it.
    Finish on GS boots are impeccable, bought some black CXL field boots as b-grades and i cannot find what made them fail the QC. I have Diesels and Brass boots as well. I have brannock 13C feet and find that 12E fits me best in GS's boots. GS recommends sizing down by a half size, but they do not offer a 12.5 size so 12E seems to be the right compromise. Plenty of length in the boot, and the extra width prevents the pinky toe squeeze.
    I own 2 pair of Parkhurst, 1 of which was a b-grade and the other is a factory sample. The factory sample is perfect, but the b-grade had some notable imperfections. The front of the welt was sanded pretty close, likely would need to be replaced on a resole, and there were a few small scuffs. One is on the 602 last, other is on 602M last - i cant tell much difference between the 2, though the 602M seems roomier, ever so slightly (might just be a placebo effect, as the 602M is supposed to be like 1mm wider in the ball). Both are size 12.5 (PH only offers one width, as i recall, though that could change) and they fit my feet perfectly. Seriously though, both are easily the most comfortable boots i own, except maybe the barefoot African Rangers from Jim Green (which isnt a fair comparison since the BFAR are so flexible and wide).

    My experience with the Grant Stone fit was contrary to what most have said. I am Brannock size 10 1/2 D. I wear 10D in Red Wings. My first Grant Stone purchase was the same boot shown here, the Edward in Badalassi Minerva in size 10D. They seemed to be the appropriate length but pinched my toes rather severely. Being veg tan leather, I was concerned they wouldn’t break in and stretch sufficiently so I exchanged them for 10 1/2 D. I also purchased a B-Grade pair of Diesels, Navy CXL in 10 1/2D. They felt snug but good initially. Upon wearing them for more lengthy periods they were pinching my pinky toe only on my left foot. (They have since broken in and have become more comfortable.) I wore them to Stitchdown Bootcamp in Brooklyn a few days ago and spoke with Wyatt Gilmore (Grant Stone owner) about it. He told me he could see my pinky toe pushing on the side of the boot and advised me to get a 10 1/2 E in the future. (I have never needed an E width in any boot or shoe before.) He also said that a 10 E would most likely give me the same issue. On the subject of the B grade, at first I could see no reason for it but after numerous wears I did notice that the tongue of one boot was slightly askew. It’s still comfortable and not at all noticeable. I also bought a 10 1/2 D in a Field Boot (Floyd last) and it was much too loose. I needed to use a relatively thick insert as well as thick socks to wear them comfortably.

    I have boots from both brands and these makers are my top two favorites. I haven't purchased any seconds from Parkhurst, only firsts so far. I have bought Grant Stone firsts from in-stock, from pre-orders, and in lightly used condition from Ebay. I have no worries about buying seconds or returns from either of these makers. I think their quality control is excellent. Regarding Alden, I haven't purchased any and am basically put off by the prices at this point. Thanks for the video!

    2:17 I don’t think you can do much about dampening gun range noise without substantial sound proofing. I worked around a school that had a gun range behind it (yes that sounds as weird as it seems, but it was Florida). While the had lots of berms built up to absolutely prevent anyone from shooting towards any part of the school at all, the noise came in an irregular intervals throughout the day. It sounded different depending on if you were outside in the activity fields, in the open air hallway/courtyards thoughout the school, or in different parts of the school where the sound echoed a bit throughout the AC vents vs through the windows in other rooms.

    Great video. Do you have a really low-volume foot? In my experience, suggesting going a full size down from Brannock for Grant Stone is not a good idea. I couldn't get along with the Leo Last and have a pair of Diesels in brown CXL up for sale.
    I think I'll have better luck with the 602M last from Parkhurst. One of these days, I'll find Dublin Natural or Gaucho Gray boots in my size....

    I was looking at GS for a while but I either liked the leather but not like the sole or hardware. Not at all familiar with Parkhurst, but I'm really liking the overall look of the Parkhurst (digging that commando sole). The main issue/challenge with buying any boot online is that even if you know your Brannock size, they're all a bit different; even using the sizing guide and emailing Truman, they recommended a D but in Nick's I'm an 11E (but 11.5 "wide" on the Brannock, according to a salesperson at local shoe store).
    Thanks for your compare/contrast review.

    Comparing the shape of the GS Edward to the Alden last… not sure if you realize, but the owner of GS’s grandfather worked at Alden for decades, so the GS last is purposely similar to what Alden makes (in this case, the Barrie.)

    Thank you for reviewing B grades. I’m curious why you size down a full size down on GS. I’m trying to get a pair of B grades but there’s no return on those. Want to be right sized, I thought that’s 1/2 down from bannock. I’m coming from a Thursday Captain. Any advice compared to Thursday?

    • @kingofthenoobs
      @kingofthenoobs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1/2 down is the standard recommendation. Some people prefer a more snug fit or their foot shape just works best with full down. I would get my sizing locked in before ordering any b grades.

    I’m not sure I understand the premise of your video. All “B Grades or Factory Seconds” have different issues from pair to pair. Some are better than others. It just depends what you are willing to accept. I think a more fair analysis would be to determine who was more transparent in terms of disclosing the issues so that a consumer can make an educated purchase decision.
