This guy is awesome! We bought a large camper and had no understanding of the brakes and what to do. This was a wealth of knowledge
Pretty clear video n exactly what i was looking for
Great info Josh! Wish I would have known about this stuff when I was much younger
Trailer brake controllers are must have if you are towing under a lot of different conditions. One being if you encounter slippery conditions even more so slippery going down hill. I witnessed 20 tractor trailers go off the hi way and crash as soon as they headed down a hill with ice. The Engine brakes on the trucks came on and the trailers pushed the truck sideways because the trailers were not getting enough. braking applied. When I noticed it was icing over I used my controller manually and made it a mile through the ongoing mess to the exit safely.
Also in slippery conditions get out of Tow Haul Mode and turn engine brakes off!
Another condition is steep gravel roads or off roading. There are times you need to brake the trailer not the truck. This is even more important as you get closer to max towing capacity. Off pavement it is real easy for a trailer to overtake the truck.
Great info, Josh!
Some good insight for many getting into this; but you need to have Tow Mode engaged to activate Trailer brakes. Yes without a brake controller you have no gain on trailer brakes. I sometimes forget to place it in tow mode and by the 1st or 2nd stop leaving our home with trailer. I'm immediately reminded that trailer brakes are not working without Tow Mode on. My brake controller is there set on # 7 thankfully never have had to use in emergency scenario although have set it up to 8 in big descents
Great video for a towing newbie
This is awesome thanks sir
Thanks for this information
interesting video thank you
Very helpful
Great video. I bought a 2012 Nissan Armada Platinum used. Supposedly "tow wires available' and installed. Tow on control panel but no box? Called he Dealer. He said; A brake box is easily mounted to the dash and it should snap into a connector under the dash. My electrical mechanic is saying it might cost $300.00.to hook up. ? What? Also; I did not know there was a small battery in the trailer. According to this, it's important to have the box too. Has anyone hooked up their SUV from this vantage point? Does any extra wire harnesses need to be put in? Or; is it ready to go ? I'm towing horses. PRECIOUS CARGO.
'Video for Nissan says "Tow Mode changes transmission gears."
👍
Trailer disconnected warning!!!
