      Yep thats why I ended up with an orient ftv01003w (a neoclassic chronograph) which was my favorite watch and a gold tone orient tri star. Saw this in recommended and had to click. Unfortunately the chronograph got stolen i miss it so much. its sold out everywhere online I look.

      @@musaabramjan1195 that's a bummer man, I looked it up and it is indeed a great looking watch. To find something similar, try googling the movement number 'Orient KFC00', some other Orient models that use the same movement (and thus will have a similar dial layout) will pop up, hopefully you can find one that's still available and to your liking.

    A cheap japanese mechanical watch with awful bracelet but solid quality and good looks is always cooler than any overpriced quartz fashion watch.

    • @zogzog1063
      @zogzog1063 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The negativity for the 'overpriced quartz fashion watch' is well merited. The elephant in room is 'automatic'. We are talking about a timekeeper right? Seiko, Citizen and many others do classy quartz watches. Why the hell would anyone by a mechanical watch - known to be inaccurate? (Oh an as aside confess I do own a SARX 055 - gulp - but I will never own more than one automatic.)

    • @EffendiChung
      @EffendiChung 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It well show that the money went to the watch instead of the accessories, I think. But if the bracelet isa just as good as the casio folded links, I will have no problem.

      Durability. My first quartz watch - a Timex day-date - lasted less than four years. My second one (a Limit digital) about four and a half years. My Tissot Seastar automatic's still going strong after twenty-five.

      @@zogzog1063 For many people, down-to-the second accuracy is less important than having a watch that won't leave you with a dead battery. I personally like both, but I'm not afraid to change my own batteries, and usually have extras on hand.

    • @OmarZ77
      @OmarZ77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zogzog1063 I agree with you, but I do think it’s cool to own one or two mechanical. Not more than that-not due to accuracy, but because they stop when you don’t wear them.
      I have an Orient Kamasu and a Tristar actually, and not looking for any other mechanicals. All of my recent purchases are quartz-mostly Casios. Tired of resetting the time every time I pick a watch up.

    Thank you Ben for posting this about the Orient Tristar. I purchased one similar to this but in brown and gold which is a bit different from the watch you have featured as there is a button on mine at the 2pm position which is what changes the day function of the watch but the date function is the done from the winder. The strap as you pointed out is the worst feature of the watch as is the lug size being 19mm so it is a problem finding straps in that size. I took my watch to H.Samuels and had the bracelet replaced with a light tan leather crocodile 20mm strap with a gold buckle which the watch dealer was able to fit and it wears perfectly and really enhances the watch further. At 37mm it is an ideal size for anyone. I have been looking at the watch you have featured for some time and this is the first review I have seen of this model and is at an affordable price compared with a Seiko 5 by being around £30 cheaper to purchase. I have had my watch for 4 years now and I love it for its design and its accuracy which for me is around 4 seconds a day on average. I would definately rate this watch as ICE COLD and I would recommend viewers of this channel to have a look at the Orient Tristar watch range as there are many different colour ranges available and with a strap change to a good leather one or a bracelet they are really great value for money and a watch you will enjoy wearing for years to come.

    I' m lucky enough to have a couple of Oris, and one or two other pieces from a similar price level in my current collection, but I love my little Orient *** watches as much as any of the others. I have three of the newer issues, and one original from the 70's. Like most things of a subjective nature, you'll either like them, or you won't , but for me they exude such a charm, and capture the look and style of a certain era better than most. No hacking, no hand-winding, mineral crystals and only token water resistance, but the dials on some of these are so beautifully done, and really do belie their lowly price-point, offering - despite the aforementioned short-comings - great value for money. Two of mine are on cheap - but very nice - expander bracelets, which really add to the other-era look. I am a self-confessed Orient fanboy, so welcome to the dark side young man.
    Nice video too.😀

    No way! I was just looking at prices for the SNK wondering why they’re so high now and was literally thinking of whether the tri Star is the new SNK as far as cheapest automatic. Believe it or not i bought a tri star and the SNK809 at the same time and both have held up. The tri star is actually one of my most accurate automatic watches at 6 seconds a day and it was only 42 bucks a couple years back. Cheap? Yes. but one heck of a value? also yes.

    I believe someone who are vintage watch lover will have a look at this watch,very 50s or 60s. If you see it clearly, the texture at the dial, inner ring sunburst are more bold, and outer part are more fine. Under lighting, i believe it will show like a premium watch if, we change the glass to sapphire. I had the exactly but white dial version. I agreed. The bracelet spoilt the overall experience. An aftermarket bracelet or leather strap will be very nice.

    I kinda live on these Tri-Stars. There's so many variants that rival the variety from Seiko 5. I have some funky colorful ones too, from bright orange (yes...that's not a typo) to faceted sunburst teal...these can be real eye catchers. Like Seiko 5's there are other sizes too...recently Orient has made their tri-stars a bit bigger, towards 40mm. Those I don't really have an interest in.
    But there are some tri-stars (sometimes they're called Orient Standard) that are 36mm/18mm, and those sizes are perfect. The tri-starts that are 37/19 feel a lot bigger than the 36/18. Definitely prefer the 36/18 and the much better strap options.

    Since Orient is owned by Seiko Epson, I'm not surprised that the bracelet is very similar to those found on the old Seiko 5's.....just get a different strap/bracelet and you're good to go. Also, it seems Seiko is relegating Seiko 5 watches as sport watches. Look at the new ones from 2019 to present...no automatic dress watches (in the Seiko 5 line) at all from Seiko....I guess the parent company is housing the entry level automatic dress watches in the Orient brand.

    I'm going to say it's uncool.
    Huge logo, lots of text, and four colours on that dial (black face, gold batons and hands, white from date window and red from the orient logo) make it quite bad looking to my eye. To the extent that some "Chinese specials" from the likes of Starking, Guanqin and Cadisen have cleaner, more appealing looks to my eye.
    And that bracelet genuinely sounds garbage tier. Funnily some of the Chinese brands send you a bracelet and an extra leather/NATO strap for watches cheaper than this, in the $60-70 range. Those tend to have decent movements and sapphire crystals if you take some time to look them up as well.

    It looks rather much like the Seiko snxs range. That too has a 19mm lug with. It is not that difficult to cram in a 20 mm strap.

    Do you think that a brown leather strap would match ok with the black dial? Thanks.

    Picked up a tristar about a week ago. The watch loses less than a second a day! Not sure how this is even possible, perhaps I got really lucky with mine. Any comments as to how my 75 dollar orient is keeping chronometer level time?

    I can understand a pressed clasp and hollow end links, but those folded links 🤦🏻‍♂️
    And what’s the point of the word “crystal” at the 6 o clock position?

    I think its worth mentioning that this is not an orient in the same vein like the orient of old the clue is on the case back it says EPSON as in seiko epson, there are now a range of orients which are using epson assembled movts as in seiko derived movts the same goes for quartz orients they are just seiko who in themselves are tied in with orient now. im not sure which orients still use orients own in house movts or if indeed anything that says epson contains a genuine orient movt and not a seiko. i have had several old orients and a watch with a genuine orient power reserve movt but has the name ARBUTUS on its dial ..new york boxed unused bought for its rareness i guess, however ARBUTUS i believe now use non orient movts. epson do appear to be doing a lot of seiko production including" lorus" and "J springs" a 21 jewel standard seiko automatic type movt on the one i have.i would prefer to get my hands on genuine orients and not seiko offerings nothing wrong with seiko but not keen on this badge does not = orient in some cases.

    Where I live, Tristars have a bit of bad reputation, and for good reasons. They had scared a lot of people (usual people, not watch enthusiasts) off the entire Orient brand and created a negative image of "watch for homeless old men" that is hard to overcome. By the way, you have picked the most attractive looking version from this lineup, most real-life samples look far uglier. I myself had seen some Tristars and immediately dismissed them as fakes (yes, they fake even this one) only to find out later that this is indeed what the real model looks like.
    Upd: looks like after Epson took over, this lineup definitely improved.

    It's a great looking watch for sure. It definitely has its cheapness aspects and that's fine considering the price. That watch as it is but with quartz movement would be a YES for me.

    It is a reliable mechanical watch from a storied brand under/around $100, and certainly a good Seiko 5 alternative. But the colours on the dial with the grey and gold doesn’t really work in my opinion, and the awful bracelet definitely takes it down a notch. I’ve got the Seiko 5 SNK793 and I like it more then this, however there are some other Orient Tristar models I like more then my Seiko 5.
    This watch is ‘cool’
