Thanks JB! The work on your videos really shows. High production value. I’ve been Mystery Ranch fan before it was called Mystery Ranch. lol I love my new Bozeman. I’m taking it to SE Asia in January. My go-to EDC right now.
Honestly I think Yeti did a fantastic job in making it more EDC / less tacticool. However, the biggest issue is that MR took down all EDC lines, and there’s nothing that can replace the classic 3dap CL
Great video. Bag addict here. I actually picked up a black Bozeman after your last video and have been using it the last few days. I have a love hate relationship with the trizip system. I’ve heavily used and abused a 3dap and always kind of felt like it was cramped compared to a true top open or one that opened up all the way. I’m torn on the Bozeman. I’m happy you mentioned the straps being thinner, for me it’s noticeable and pinches. I wonder if I could retrofit a MR strap onto the Bozeman. Good call on the yeti being more springy in structure, to me it makes packing and unpacking a pain and feels more cramped. Other than that yeti did a great job with the material, bottle pockets, and removable straps. I’m getting ready for an international trip and really debating if I want to bring the Bozeman or not. I might just grab my old GR1. The GR1 lacks in features but what it does it does well. Very simple design.
Agree with thin straps being noticeable, I got carryology Cerberus, with futura harness, was hoping for same comfort but it's noticeably inferior to what's on blitz and a2dp. Good new is yes, you can swap the straps, just tried it yesterday.
I hear ya! That GR1 is a classic and will always be a solid choice for international trips. And the feature set on the Bozeman is cool. I hadn't thought of swapping the straps but it could be done.
I’ve been carrying this Bozeman for a few days and Disney and wish it had a few straps to attach to and I definitely need a couple packing cubes to get to things a bit better but it’s really comfortable!
Interesting that the 2DAP is 1" taller, .5" wider, and 1.25" deeper than the Bozeman, yet they are allegedly the same volume...the math doesn't math, lol. Also, GREATLY appreciate you using the proper terms for PALS webbing and MOLLE attachments! It's a pet peeve of mine when people call it MOLLE webbing, particularly when packs made by retired military also use the wrong terminology.
Pretty much that's what I wanted to confirm... it looked smaller than the 2DAP, which I own. So the Bozeman is closer to the MR Catalyst 26 (with a Futura harness.) Not interested anymore!
Some fantastic videos on this channel. I’m sad that Yeti bought MR (and that MR decided to sell, it takes two etc etc). It reminds me of the change Kifaru went through, when they dropped all the packs I liked. it’s rare that a brand gets bought out and things remain as they should. I’m also not a fan of large companies owning many brands, inevitably the attributes that draw a person to a smaller brand get diluted or washed away. I wonder if the continued availability of the Dragon 2.0 is partly down to consumers demonstrating their displeasure in the only effective way they really can. That said, I’ve just ordered one (Dragon 2.0, videos from this channel helped a great deal) as a last MR order. I’ll stick it with my 2011 3DAP (from back when MR accepted international orders) and my two ASAPs. Just wish I’d bought a Longbow.
Thanks for the review, JB! I have the black Bozeman and it's such a promising pack. That said, two things: 1) it doesn't feel like a true 27L to me; and 2) the straps just seem a bit thin and narrow for carry comfort with a heavy load. For example, the straps on the 2DAP look GIGANTIC. Are those the mil-spec straps, or are they a different size, or are they something else? Thanks!!! PS--Never had an MR before, so this is my first time with a Futura harness. Still not sure it's dialed in correctly, but I've tried SO HARD. Lol.
You're not alone on those straps, but I think the size and shape make them ideal for EDC! Swapping the harness from a 2DAP looks possible...let me see if I can figure that out...
@@JBOutside1 Got some info: you have to change the ladder lock from the 3/4" on the Bozeman to the full 1" on the MR yokes. Of course, to do that you have to cut the Bozeman locks, so there's no going back. Bit of a risk for me since I'm still in the return window!
Man i was hoping you'd pack same load to both bags to properly demonstrate size difference.. otherwise great thanks.. i think I'll go for it when it becomes available, this is a perfect layout for me and carry system is the gold standard... I'll probably take the traps from a2dp or blitz.. overall, seems like the closest thing to perfection...
Well, I sorta did. In the beginning, the Yeti was packed with 2xTPC8s and the Field Pocket. In the end of the video I load those things into the 2DAP. I wasn't very clear and it wasn't side by side. I need more TPC8s! 😜
Kinda sucks that yeti bought mystery ranch, I hope it goes in a good direction. I was first introduced to mystery ranch while I was a wildland firefighter. Great packs, I’d say I prefer the catalyst 26 or the REI exclusive 2day edc more than the Bozeman.
Why would they now (Yeti design) put the internal sleeves on the front flap unlike MR where they are "in" the pack, making it far easier to unzip the pack to get into the main compartment. If you carry a Nalgene inside these for example, it's an extra step to take them out and put them back in. Just adds a frustration point if time is of the essence. I really don't like that MR sold out to Yeti. Yeti should stick to absurdly priced coolers. Now all the "Yeti Bros" will be rocking these.
@@JBOutside1 how big of a laptop can it hold. Looking at a 15” MacBook Air or 16” MacBook Pro so any bag I get has to accommodate a bigger laptop. I haven’t seen anything listing this. Thanks
Would rather mystery ranch keep selling their packs they are nicer and the warranty “was” better. Who wants less pack but to pay more money? What about warranties is yeti going to honor mystery ranch’s warranty prob not and the new yeti one I hear only has a 3 year warranty… sounds like we are getting screwed

Great video, do you know anything about the updates to the 2 day assault pack? Looks like some new colors on the MR website at least.
I think just new colors.

Probably adding the volume of the bottle pockets

@ if so, I hope I was nice about it. 🤣
Nice review thanks jb
Any time!
Very nice. Any thoughts on the Bozeman vs Dragon 2.0? Of course the opening is very different, but the size and some features are similar.
Very similar and cool in their own rights. I guess it depends on if you need the “stick-it”?

Yeti needs to be Yeti. Keep it separate. I get that they own Mystery Ranch, let it be.
That would be awesome

Good points, not sure how the warranty process will evolve and how things will be for the legacy MR products.
I hate it looks like a 2023 gallagator in a 2dap style. Looks weird
