Warburg(Westf) is a town with approx. 23,000 inhabitants in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, 37km south-east of Paderborn. The station was opened in 1851 and is located in the northeast of the city, on the Hamm(Westf) - Kassel railway line. The tracks from Kassel were the first to reach Warburg station in 1851. Two years later, the route from Hamm reaches the city. In 1873 the upper Ruhr Valley Railway was extended to Warburg. Since it ended on the south side of the station, an island station was created. In 1890 a railway line was added to Sarnau. Nothing remains of the southern part of the station today, and the line to Sarnau was dismantled in 1983 as far as Volkmarsen. The station still consists of four platform tracks on a side platform and an island platform. However, track one is no longer used for passenger services. The western part of the station is the freight yard, which today is only used to park trains and for construction logistics. The reception building dates from 1853 and now houses a travel center and a Buddhist temple.
