    When the iron is outside the block, there is a small horizontal stability loss in addition to the vertical because Valheim uses the distance between the center of each object in that calculation.
    No idea for the columns breaking before their max height though.

    • @jjthebuilder

      Yeah I thought that was the case and you are probly right but why is the black marble pillar also a different height then the normal block? I wish it could just be a bit more uniform.

    • @puuaatu2856

      marble has better horizontal stability than regular stone although the vertical stability is the same

  • @jsmars

    Great video! I think the height calculations are being done from the base terrain height though, not the flattened/heightened/lowered surface though.

    • @jjthebuilder

      I need to test out different terrain heights then thank you! But I do think the new pillars are not acting how to suppose to, seeing how some parts on the top stay up and some dont.

      @@jjthebuilder something to do with the relative positions of the tops of the iron beams / bottom of the pillar sections? 3d build pieces have always been weird about what counts as support when overlapping.

    • @jsmars

      @@jjthebuilder yeah that does look a bit wierd. We will look into this. The calculations are done from the center point of each piece, in addition to keeping some old corrected calculations in place to prevent old builds from breaking, so Im sure the math could end up with a bit of behaviour like this.

    I like the daily uploads! It's nice to see you upload more frequently. Can I suggest doing tutorials or build series? That way your bigger builds don't cause you to only upload every few months. Personally most of my builds are inspired by yours. Your stone tutorial from a while back helped me exponentially.

      I have two things in the pipeline but I also have my day job and some Dutch holidays coming up haha.
      1. I’m going to do a small tutorial
      2. I’m going to make a new updated video on stability because I have been talking to some people and got some new information that I want to test out.

    I am going to theorize that the iron beam with the grausten on the outside isn't breaking at 30 and 32m because the game is reading the signs as connected to the pillar supported by iron grating next to it.

      I should specify, it's typically the circular rotations. Panning left and right or up and down is fine. Instead of circling your mouse, you could say "The iron grates in front of me", or just assume the viewer knows that the thing in the middle of your screen and cursor is the block in question. 🙂

    Stabilty is a mechanic I honestly hate in Valheim, it makes 0 sense, like "yes game tell me why this isn't supported despite sitting on a giant stone block and having supports in place.",
    Other survival games like Conan, etc., have handled it far better, and far simpler, in that your structure just needs to be supported, no height restrictions, etc., just "Can it stand on it's own y/n",
    stability honestly just kills any desire I have to try and do complex builds as a console player, and I'd argue it hurts the game more then anything on the building front, that and the camera not going underwater.
