My Grandfather was probably the biggest .30-30 fan and user I ever met. He had the same Winchester 1894 SRC that he bought used in 1936 (and I have a photo of huge whitetail he shot with it from that year) that he hunted with until the age of 79 in 1993. Who knows how many deer and bear fell to that gun, not to mention he shot a lot of small game, grouse, rabbits, etc. He did shoot one doe at over 300 yards with it. His had a Lyman tang sight and hit her and dropped her in her tracks with a well placed spine/neck shot. I have a different saddle ring carbine and have already found how accurate the gun is. The Marlin 1893's were a very smooth shooting rifle, every one I've seen seems to be more refined when compared to the Winchester 1894's.
