SMauler9 That's not right. If the word ends in an s because it's plural, you would put the apostrophe after the word. However, if it's singular, you add the extra "s" regardless.
My father owned one of these and as he walked by while I was watching this he stopped, standing at the half opened door and started mumbling: "That was a great car... Such a great car. The best I've ever had."

I proved him wrong. These cars are indestructible. I sold mine at 260k miles in 2012 because I wanted a newer car. I regret it and should have kept it. It was still running strong. As longs as you keep up with the regular maintenance ; oil changes, tune ups, routine fluid changes, etc--you can expect these to run forever. I have many memories with my LS400... Lexus started out like every brand trying to firmly establish itself into a new market. It was Mercedes in the 70s. Now its the koreans doing the same thing, while Lexus is getting too comfortable alongside the Germans.
"... it rides like a cloud that has been doing a lot of crunches..." Man, I really love your metaphors, they make everything you describe about a car seem so visible and vivid as if you´re sitting in it while watching the review ...

I saw a 93 with 50,000 original Km on it posted on Kijiji (Canada's version of Craigslist). the next day the ad was taken down which disappointed me since I was considering buying it. the day after that my cousin rolls up in the same car as in the ad and says she bought it...at least someone I know has one of my dream cars
I managed to pick up a 93 with 143,000km on it. Major maintenance was neglected, but the parts for the timing belt and water pump were 300 dollars on RockAuto. Got it up to date and it barely feels 23 years old.
I remember when that car first came out.....it was the Japanese shot heard 'round the world. The public (and even many car reviewers) didn't know how to take the car at first....the term "Japanese luxury" wasn't around yet, so they didn't really know what to expect. Word got out fast, though. At any rate, I'm glad you decided to do another review of Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus.
I thought this was one of the best reviews yet. I enjoyed hearing a little of the history of Lexus as well as this particular car. I remembers neighbor having one and thinking to myself wow, I hope to someday own a car like that. I also remember it never seemed to age and even today looks only like a car maybe half its age.
I own a 97 lexus es300, and the 90s Lexus's are wonderful cars. You can't help but love to drive them, whether you're going fast or just cruising, it's a beautiful ride.
Cant believe this thing has a million miles, I wonder how many miles matt drove for himself in this specific lexus that you were so kind as to review for us.
Matt's was a 1996 2nd generation with 800,000+ miles on it when he bought it. In order to get it to the million mile goal, Matt enlisted friends and paid a few to drive around a track all day. Mostly, it was eager volunteers who manned the helm. Otherwise, Matt might have pooped-out before the car did, which is what my 1997 is doing - outlasting three of us octogenarians. Both previous owners died and my Lexus was sold by their estates. I'll do the same, giving my favorite charity the old road anvil, when I fail to turn-over one day.
Don't hesitate to buy one of these, even if it looks beat up. I almost sold mine, and glad I didn't. Cosmetics can be corrected. If Tranny is good, and engine not leaking, buy it and make the needed repairs yourself. Especially if it mostly original and hasn't been modified unwisely. 280K miles is nothing for these FAA rated engines. Only use DENSO replacement parts. These have 4 mufflers and two CATs. The Tranny is the same one used in the trucks, the 3 inch thick shop manual says they designed tranny to handle 800hp. I have 280K miles w/ original exhaust system. No check engine light, but wasn't always that way. Original Struts/springs. Nothing rides better. Will have to fix the speakers one of these days, to enjoy that Nakamichi cassette / disk changer. The rear seat can comfortably carry three large people and every door has a cigarette lighter. If you get T-boned, you probably can still drive it, and probably will survive with minimal injury. I saw one of these side damaged from sliding into a telephone pole. The guy was still driving it. I was super impressed that the damage wasn't severe. After 27 years and not being garaged, the paint is faded but still holding up. The axle CV boots are not torn, I sprayed with ATP and put all synthetic fluids & Toyota red coolant I am probably the 4th owner. No problem this car can take real beating and can tolerate some neglect. Had to replace strut mounts only (not the struts/springs), upper control arms and most of the front end stuff. The rack & pinion may give leak problems..they can be chronic. Still leaking on driver side after replacing the rack assembly twice.
I recently drove my brothers type 2 Lexus LS400, it's probably the nicest driving car I've driven. So smooth, a decent amount of power, and pretty decent handling. It's in rough shape but it still runs great.
I work as a technician at a lexus dealer and the first time I got in one of these and started the engine i did think the engine turned over (its that smooth), and I drive new lexus everyday!!! the engine in that car is a complete and udder MASTERPIECE. the smoothest engine I have ever felt. and when you get out of that after a drive, it feels like getting up from your couch. You just seem well rested.
I owned a 93 LS400 as a daily for 22 years. Just sold it 6 months ago and outside of fluids and tires it never had an issue. Those things might be built to a ridiculous standard, but that example has been maintained impeccably. If I could have found one of those where the interior hadn't been utterly destroyed then I probably would have gotten one as my first car. I mean, I was looking at a wide variety of possible car models for my first car and a Lexus was definitely on the list. A shame that most of the people in my area that bought them didn't actually have the class necessary to maintain them. Loads of shredded leather, peeling faux wood, scratched up plastics, and burnt carpets. The same was true of basically every single "luxury" car I looked at. Lincoln LS, Lexus SC300 and SC430, Jaguar S-type and X-type. Didn't seem to matter, the people who owned it before had no real class and just destroyed the interior by treating it the same as they would a cheap economy car by never taking care of it and acting like they were disposable. I ended up with a base model Mk.4 Golf instead because time ran out and the options weren't getting any better. Didn't help any that Cash-4-Clunkers also happened around that same time and wiped out so many good used cars. I'll probably hold that grudge against the government until I fucking die.
God, that front license plate is driving me nuts. For the love of fucking god, please put that thing in the middle where it belongs! Looking at it is like nails on a chalkboard.
he probably dosnt want to drill holes in his bumper. Mines a 97 and it's never had a front lisence plate and probably never will because I'm not going to zip tie it..
One thing that Lexus really concentrated on was the experience at the dealership. They really tried to make their customers feel special and well taken care of. That dealership experience is what cemented brand loyalty for a lot of Lexus owners.
A loss leader has nothing to do with the competition. What other people sell their products for is irrelevant. The only thing that matters, is that you are selling your product for less than it costs to produce it in an effort to get your customers to buy your other products (that you make a profit on.) Department stores do this all of the time with small items that they do not lose much money on. If you go into the store to get the great deal on the $10 item that cost $13 to produce, then while you are there buy the $50 item that has a large markup, the store profits from your visit.
Or electronic stores sell all the big ticket electronics at a loss but make up the price in company payouts for selling a certain amount of products for a brand, and also making money on the accessories or services they sell with the products.
1:42 That is a beautiful engine bay. Back when they used to show off the engine instead of covering it with plastic. Everything is symmetrical and neat. Look how they arrange the wires on the firewall. So much attention has been paid here.
I bought one of these to Pro Street not long after it came out. I assembled a Pro Stock chassis, rear-end and roll cage from a Ford Thunderbird, the DOHC 32-valve V-8 and transmission from the Corvette ZR1. A co-worker helped assemble the front-end to flip up and then he painted and buffed out multiple coats of candy-apple red and clear-coat paint on the body. It was the most fun Lexus LS 400 I ever owned. Then, I dunno, for some reason a no-longer-friend from back then started pirating pieces off it to use on his model car kits and I never got to finish my project!
I bought a 01 LS430 with 129K on it and was very well taken care of. It's a wonderful car and it handles great with the "sport suspension" option on factory chrome 17" wheels. It's not the VIP model but it's everything I need.
qmto Matt Farah is an incredibly popular car reviewer that leads The Smoking Tire. He just bought a Lexus LS 400 with a VERIFIED 900,000 miles on it, and is letting other people drive it to get it to a full million.

german car driver in a nutshell. Overtaking on the right edge
Right? And at that it's blocking more airflow than it's required spot.
Leif Giering I think it's a remote type license plate, there is a remote in which you can fold in the license plate, look it up.
Haloid Android Looks more like he just zip tied it down there.
Looks edgy..
he probably dosnt want to drill holes in his bumper. Mines a 97 and it's never had a front lisence plate and probably never will because I'm not going to zip tie it..
Thank you for reviewing Matt Farah's million mile Lexus.
Please review public transportation.
Stingray haha, nice one.
One thing that Lexus really concentrated on was the experience at the dealership. They really tried to make their customers feel special and well taken care of. That dealership experience is what cemented brand loyalty for a lot of Lexus owners.
For a million miles, this car looks quite good.

I'm definitely going to buy one of these. Definitely a Series 1. Back when the 1UZ was a non-interference engine.

I cant believe you featured Matts million mile Lexus!! Beautiful car!!

If I'm not mistaken, another automotive example of a loss leader would be the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice.
Henry Rieken How about a Yugo? Or the first gen Hyundai's to the US in 86? If any of them are still around. Love the reviews!
1:42 That is a beautiful engine bay. Back when they used to show off the engine instead of covering it with plastic. Everything is symmetrical and neat. Look how they arrange the wires on the firewall. So much attention has been paid here.
I just got one and it’s amazing. Quietest car I’ve ever been in.
these things sound dope as straight piped
That car aged better than most
Omega most people I know
Fantastic vid. Informative, compelling and with great humour. Thanks for posting....:)
The Ultimate Warrior reference was the best.
i watched this review at 15
i now own an LS400 at 21
Put the plate in place.. just.. just do it.
Wow I am surprised that that vacuum fluorescent display is actually still working. The one my friend had didn't. But the car was pretty sweet.
That big guy from TheSmokingTire has one just like it. He bought it with 900,000 miles on it.
I just bought a 1990 with 235,000 miles..I drive a Lexus 😁
Is it Matt Farah's?
Yeah my Elementary School principal once gave a ride to a student in our school and told him “You know, you want ever be able to afford this.”
Its both amazing and sad that a SUB BRAND of Toyota outsells the ENTIRE NISSAN MOTOR CO.
Nissan lost its way bad.
I bought a 01 LS430 with 129K on it and was very well taken care of. It's a wonderful car and it handles great with the "sport suspension" option on factory chrome 17" wheels. It's not the VIP model but it's everything I need.
Is that matt farahs million mile lexus?
Matt Joines Yes it is 100%
It's wild to think that one of these under 140k miles I'm decent condition is worth over $20k today
This was my first car. I’d gladly give up my new car for a good running one of these
I love your videos. The way you deliver every topic is awesome!
exactly what genesis is doing now
Recently bought a 91 celsior with only 60k miles. Love it
Even Matt Farah's "Million Mile" Lexus isn't a Million Mile Lexus. (Its at 900k)

Great video

You should do a series 2.
4:30 dat mercedes driving on the shoulder
Is that common?
When are you guys reviewing the SC300?
Who's Matt Farah and why do you keep acting like everyone thinks this is his car?
qmto Matt Farah is an incredibly popular car reviewer that leads The Smoking Tire. He just bought a Lexus LS 400 with a VERIFIED 900,000 miles on it, and is letting other people drive it to get it to a full million.
Zack Lloyd sorry guess I'm not in the know.
qmto It's okay to admit, atleast you're in the know now. ;)
Everyone is fighting about who matt farah is and if that is really his car. And im just sitting here wondering who that chick is inside the car....
Check youtube for Matt Farah's Lexus.... he is still rocking it hard core at a million miles.
That side glance with "a thiiirrrrd" was perfect
4:30 impatient Mercedes.
Some luxury car drivers are impatient, others enjoy the pleasure of a leisurely drive.
I have a 1996 Ls400...it’s sad to know that your car will outlive you
