  • This is an independent review and comparison between the Bonafide RVR 119 and the SS 127. In this video, I try to go over all the questions I had prior to purchasing a Bonafide RVR 119 to replace my Bonafide SS127. I had a lot of questions that I wanted to hear from folks in the field that were also coming from an SS127 and I address those in this video. If you are wondering if you would like an RVR 119 then this video can be a help making that determination. Especially if you are coming from a background with a Bonafide SS127

    I live in FL where I use my Bonafide SS127 kayak for flats fishing and in lakes. I tend to cover several miles when I fish and I have problems with my legs so I paddle and have a MotorGuide Xi3 trolling motor for backup. I absolutely love the stability of the SS127 and it's seat is very comfortable. That said, I can definitely see the benefits of the RVR 119 when fishing in rivers.

      I grew up in Florida and that is about the only thing I miss about it - the fishing! Yea if you are in lakes and use a trolling motor, the SS127 is hard to beat for sure and you are dead on about the seat. Super comfortable and great height.

    Man, Thank you. You hit virtually every aspect of what a fisherman would be concerned with in a kayak. I’ve juggled the ss107 the rs117 and the rvr119 for a few month’s now. At this point I think I still want the ss107. Thank you again for all your info it is much appreciated.

      The SS107 is solid for sure. Before the RVR came out there are many times I thought about selling my ss127 and getting an ss107 just because it is shorter and lighter. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      Thank you. Glad it helped. I'm working on a 1 year update to how I have it all rigged out. Made a few changes since then and I think my setup has gotten even better.

    👍👍👍👍👍😃, I'll end up getting the PWR 129 for the 15K acre lake near by and end up with RVR 119 for all of the rivers/creeks that TX has for a change of pace.

    I think your review was right on. I would agree with everything you say about the RVR 119 which I have had for about a month now. I agree the anchor wizard placement is a knuckle buster. They need to make a change there. For me I’m gonna raise my seat about an inch and that should help. This is a great video you need to make some more videos

      Thanks for the comments Hans. I’m going to try one of my hunting cushions which sheds water. I think that is going to put me at about the same height as the ss127. May have to rig something up to adjust that anchor wizard.

    Nice video, really like the comparison between both. I live in hickory tavern not far from boyds mill and rabon. Thinking about getting another kayak for boyds mill due to it being so shallow now near the boat ramp couldnt even get my jon boat threw there a few weeks ago. Would also love to go down the broad river and catch some small mouth!!! Hopefully see you on the water one day.

      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! You could have definitely got your boat in 2 days ago.. It was high and running hard. It was a rough paddle back upstream in that current. Will definitely be hitting the Broad here soon for smallies. Tight lines!

    I like you're review process. I mainly fish rivers, but I'm 6'6 300lbs. I need a big kayak. Ive had feelfree moken 12's, jackson kilroys and a johhny boat. I use a nucanie frontier 12 and for its size its still a aweome river boat. Ive never been in anything close as far as stability and its easier to rig than anything ive had, or have looked at.

      @@KillenNReelinoutdoors Yep, that's going to be the new one for the wife. I bought my frontier like 4 months before that came out, and it was during COVID-19. I waited like 3 months for it. Then month or two later, boom unlimited is out. Ohh well...still love the frontier

      @@rhodesianhunter9360 yes sir it’s a great one, I will say you will be very pleased with the unlimited. It’s more rigid and drains very fast comparatively. Good luck brother!

    The RVR 119 is about 90% from being a perfect kayak for me. I currently have the SS127 and I'm hoping there will be an RVR119 Ver2 (or even better RVR109, slightly shorter). I have some of the same opinions you have. Namely, the seat. If they could retrofit the SS127 seat setup to the RVR, it'd be perfect. As a "river" kayak, I love that I can pop the SS127 seat out and use it as a beach chair during a break or around a camp fire on a two day float. The other big thing is like you said, the paddle holder. I like to keep a push pole ready on mine for those areas you need to push around areas (boulders, tree laydowns, etc) that you don't want to use a $300+ paddle to push off of. And finally, but not that big of a deal, I want to keep the junk drawer. So nice to have a place to toss things without worry of them wondering around the boat floor where you can't get to it. Great comparison video.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pringals I will be testing out a 2" seat riser in the very near future. On my last two trips out I used a 2" seat cushion that was made for one of my treestands and that definitely helped. I did a comparison yesterday when I got back from fishing side by side and I think a 2" seat riser plus a nominal cushion will equal the height of the SS127 seat. But dang I never thought about popping the seat out for camping chair.
      That is awesome. I am working out some of the kinks that I have with the RVR and when I am done I think I will be in much better shape than I was in with the SS127 - having said that I fish mainly rivers. I just did a trout/bartram bass fishing trip on the Chatooga River yesterday and being able to turn quickly and anchor after going through the shoals to fish the pool right behind the shoals is an awesome thing.

    1 thing about the seats the ss127 is FAR SUPERIOR. More comfortable and many positions. I just picked up my rvr its ok but im not sure if i can fish a whole day on the rvr like i can the ss. Im not able to stand on the kayaks so the seat is more important. I still like the rvr alot just wish it had the same seating.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I haven't found anything that beats the seat in the SS127. I'm gonna make my next RVR run with a real thick cushion which I think will get me to the same height or pretty close to it and try that out. I'll see if that messes up stability or not.

    People keeping telling me that its not good at flat water etc, it seems like it would do good though, i want to be able to use it for the shallow water coastal flats

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t understand why people say it’s not good in flat water. I didn’t have any problems in flat water but I was able to turn the kayak around a lot faster than I could have in my SS127.

    Do you use the flex wings on the ss127 for river fishing? If so how does it affect the handling in current?

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So yes I put the flex wings on the SS127. I don't think they were worth the money. I have heard other guys say they work great, but from what I have heard people comment online is that they perhaps work better on the ss107 than the ss127. That is just my unscientific thought based on what I hear people say when they talk about liking them or not. For me they are more of a pain, they get caught on stuff when dragging the kayak. If you hit any rivers with grass, they become grass catchers. They just didn't seem to make much difference for me.A rudder is much more effective than the flex wings. I would not have purchased them if I knew how they were going to be.

    Does the rvr do better in wind. With the 127 in wind it’s a disaster. That kayak gets pulled around like a bath toy haha. How does the rvr do as far as that goes?

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it does a little better in the wind. When I am fishing I still get turned around sometimes, but not nearly as often as I did with the 127. The skeg definitely helps with that too. So it is better to some degree than the 127 in the wind. Having said that I have had it on open water, but I have spent the vast majority of my time in my RVR on rivers.

    On my RVR119 and my coosa hd, i put a Yakattack double header with park n pole roto grips on the left rear track. The ketch board locks into the park n pole roto grips perfectly. This video th-cam.com/video/YEOofWgZ2Fs/w-d-xo.html at 9:45 demonstrates what i mean

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea that's not a bad idea for storing the ketch board. It really doesn't work well for storing in the "designated" storing spot on the RVR.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s cause when Grandpa said that you were a fidgety 8 year old kid and Grandpa didn’t want you to flip the boat with him in it! 🤣

    • @johnguth5376

      Now it's O.k.to be fidgety and flip your kayak?!😮

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Look man I'm not sure if you are just joking or what, but I have been standing and fishing out of kayaks for 6 years and I have not flipped it yet. Not saying I never will, but I accept that risk. You can stay seated if you are more comfortable that way, no one is trying to force you to stand, however there are plenty of guys who like to stand on their kayaks to fish. It is a normal thing for a number of kayaks. These Bonafides were made to be stable enough to stand and fish. In my video, I was just confirming their claim, that yes you can stand and fish... if you want to.

    They aren't the same kayak. Apples to oranges.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No they are not the same kayak but a lot of guys like me have had an SS127 and wanted to understand the difference before dropping their dollars on an RVR. That is why I made the comparison.
