Inside such young and tender hearts, nothing expressed more of their passions and emotions in longing for their moms than this song - pure, unsophisticated and full of thoughtfulness… For many, mothers and left home young daughters seem share the same hearts. On the other front, in that era, this song stirred up as much waves in mothers’ hearts as the angry sea on the Taiwan Strait, particularly for those who had sons near or in the military serving ages. If you luckily win a Golden Horse Award, you should be happy, right? Not then. The Taiwan Strait Crisis was high; the bombardment (1949-1979) was fierce… If you drew the ballot to go to Kinmen or Matsu (KinMa: Golden Horse), the islands on Mainland’s coast, you went to the frontline to serve and defend your country and to face and fight the battles of un-proportional fire powers and scales against the Liberation Army’s shellfire. As you can imagine, the parting sentiments rendered in the song would not boost morale in the military but also sadden the mothers’ hearts alike on the other end of the strings. Therefore, the Republic of China News Agency prohibited this song from singing for a period of time… In grieve and joy, this song brings back innumerable memories of parting and meeting again.
