    Thanks for the video, is there anywhere the ridge hammock is still available for purchase?

      Hey, thanks for watching!
      I've reached out to their team a couple of times over the years and haven't gotten a response. Last I heard they were shutting down with no plans for restock.

    Nice rundown of these two systems. I'm a long-time hammock camper and am also sympathetic to US cottage manufacturers, but hammocks are the kind of thing that you may like to try out some different sizes/styles but I can't drop the coin just to experiment with top-shelf stuff. I love my Warbonnet Blackbird, but I've also always wanted to try an 11' hammock. These are great options. If I bought one and liked it enough, I'd happily keep one of these as a loaner/backup and pay for a cottage brand once I know exactly what I want. Plus, the more we learn about China, the more we need to seriously consider how much money we give them. Anyway, thanks for comparing these two; very helpful.

      All salient points! And the struggle is real to walk the line between purchasing American made, price point, etc.
      I've got some dutchware stuff in addition to some other hammock gear from several cottage manufacturers, but I fully recognize that budget is probably the biggest obstacle to getting folks outdoors.
      Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned, I've got some other good stuff coming up from ridge outdoors and a few other gear manufacturers in the hammock realm.

    Great video. Just upgraded to a dual layer single wide 11’ Onewind. Got there cold weather quilt system. Using it on a cheap $30 Amazon no name. I made a ridge line for it. I got an a extra UQ. So this old unit can be used by one of my kids.
    Stoked to try the onewind hammock out. Debating using my sleeping pad. I’ll try and set up early in the day and get some time with it in and out.

    I prefer a fully enclosed bug net. It adds the functionality of a double layer in the sense it is a second bug layer on the bottom. I also like it isn't attached and I don't need to carry it in winter. In winter I replace the bug net with their winter wind sock

    Not ready to buy yet,but I think it is going to be the Onewind Double. I like the full bugnet they offer. The quilt system is different,but for a starter system ...Not bad. As for the weight,not problem,it won't be going into backpack,kayak yes....

    I have both and for me the Onewind blows the Ridge out of the water and I find the onewind is so much easier to get your lay right but this is just my personal opinion.

    • @BexarOutfitters
      @BexarOutfitters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's worth noting that onewind has a couple different options, while the ridge has essentially the same hammock in a one zipper or two zipper configuration.
      At the end of the day it's all down to preference! Thanks for watching Blake.

      That's right! Ridge made some changes to their new Pinnacle series for the 2020-2021 season, I did a walkthrough with their new Pinnacle 360, which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/wfRCH9U1Ye4/w-d-xo.html

      @@BexarOutfitters Word is Pinnacle is coming out with their own under quilt and a winter top as well to help hold the body heat in. I haven't seen any out yet but will keep my eyes open. I think the 360 s bug net unzips from either side but the 180 only unzips from one side. 360 would be the way to go if it wasn't blue. Blue is one of the most un-natural colors found in nature. I would like to blend in not stand out.

    You didn't talk about the difference in width. The oneWind is 68" wide while the Ridge is 58". How flat does each one lay? Is the Ridge wide enough for a side-sleeper?

    • @BexarOutfitters
      @BexarOutfitters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a side sleeper and sleep comfortably in both.

    I've got an 11 foot One Wind hammock and tried to get in touch with Ridge but they never answered. tried FB, Website, all the lot so in the end I got an Astra Gear from Ali Express which is brilliant. Would have loved a Ridge one though as the reviews are really positive

      @@AA1PR I think Ridge has gone under since I made this video. One wind still makes a solid intro hammock set if you want to get them into it on a budget.
      The biggest advantage of their kit vs Eno or some of the other bigger manufacturers is that onewind comes with everything that you need to get started. Hammock, suspension, bug net, etc. And it's set up for when you want to expand and get an underquilt, winter sock, etc. At a significantly cheaper price point than dutchware, dream hammock, etc.

    New to hammock and bought the ridge ... i would live to see how you would upgrade the ridge? I been seeing people switching out the loops and ridge line? How would you pimp the ridge hammock?

    • @BexarOutfitters
      @BexarOutfitters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fantastic question. So, right off hand, some simple upgrades could include: swapping the side stuff sack for a bishop bag or double ended stuff sack, swapping out the webbing for continuous loops, swapping out the ridge line, swapping out the Ridgeline organizer, and swapping the suspension out for something lighter/more efficient.
      Hopefully that gives you some ideas for mods you can make!
