    Love the videos, just subscribed! I've known about the crown rot for many years and have had little success planting bare root myself. I grow Quinault exclusively for the enormous never ending harvest. My plan this season is to expand the plot and would like to try bare root again. Currently we are in a freak warm spell in Michigan in late March. My research tells me to plant them in early April for my zone. The ground is thawed and workable now, if I put them out at this time (March 21) and it we get the seasonal frost/freeze/snow/ice, will they perish or will their growth already be so slow it won't affect them? I can do a light mulch to protect them as well if necessary. This is going to be a fantastic year, I can feel it!

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strawberries are very hardy, they should be fine with a little frost. But if you are worried covering them wouldn't hurt.

    A year ago I bought a bare root strawberry 10 pack from home depot and none of them survived. They didn't have nearly the roots these in the video has. I think the only way the big box store ones will live is if you buy them the moment they hit the shelf because they probably started waking up in the store, in the box and died.

    • @StoneyAcresGardening

      No need to put them in a pot first. Just put them outside in the spot you want them to grow in. You might as well get them establish in their final spot.

    Please give me some advice. I am brand new to the "bare root" method of establishing perennials in the garden. I bought a bunch of bare root strawberries (everbearing) and I read the instructions that came with these strawberries and planted them according to the instructions. However.......the instructions that were provided.....were very vague and did NOT include the information you have shared regarding the strawberries. I only found your video after I planted them :(
    The instructions I was provided with said nothing about soaking the roots, nor about planting with the crown dirt level........so now......how much damage have I done to these strawberries?
    I planted them dry, and I planted the whole plant, crown and all....about 1 inch down and covered it up. The only thing I did do was give the plants I good watering immediately after planting.
    Please don't tell me I have killed them. It's not a case of the cost......it's the work that's going to be involved digging them all back up and planting new ones........because I planted a LOT!
    What is your advice????
