This lesson is just beautiful (and the 25min. of it!!). Awesome video quality and great breakdown! One of my favorites for sure! 😁 Thanks for sharing it, man! 🙏
Stanton, I met you after your gig in Charlotte (neighborhood theater) when you were backing up Dr. Lonnie Smith back in ‘03 or ‘04. I was drunk and tried to talk to you afterwards. I’m sorry lol. You were polite anyway. And I really am a fan.
Can you tell me where did you get this music/idea from? It’s very similar to my favorite drummer’s style. I want to know which particular “2nd line” music this is from. What era / which drummer, etc. thanks
Personally I think it would sound even more awesome with a little ‘room ambiance’ on the whole kit. It’s kind a dry. And doesn’t any club in N O have a certain ‘ambiance’ sound? Anyway Stanton is a groove beast. 🦁
I appreciate Stantons Zeal and dedication AND his chops-- BuT--- do you always have to play at this volume level?? Even though it doesn’t sound that loud on utube you can see how far off the head he’s coming and that = LOUD,,, and YES I know if you’re playing with a full band especially if it has a brass section you may be playing at that volume BuT,,, for home practice and to develop a finer side of yourself AND your practice that degree of volume is NoT Necessary. Please.
Thanks for your feedback. I always try to play for whatever situation is at hand. When I play with my piano trio I play much quieter. I actually enjoy playing at softer dynamic levels a lot. When I’m filming as a one man show by myself, I usually try to make it exciting. It’s not a volume thing as much as it is an energy thing. But I’ll keep your comments in mind for the future. Thanks!
@@stantonmooremusic OH hey,,, truly appreciate you bothering to Reply!!! That is Pretty Rare-- I’ve always liked your playing a lot Stanton - don’t get me wrong on that,,, I’m just an old guy who now is trying to dig into a quieter side of myself…. I studied with a great teacher in Detroit many years ago- Gene Stewart who was truly an excellent Jazz player but was also one of the White drummers that Motown would bring in along with Chet Forrest specifically when reading charts was required. One phase of training with him was he would insist that you practice everything you played at PPP level or below for a minimum of 2 weeks and preferably for a Month!!! And it Worked!!! My playing was much happier after doing so and it’s an exercise I should probably go back and re-investigate SooN.--
Hi James, this video is an abbreviated version of this lesson excerpted from the full Academy Lesson which is accessible to members of my online Drum School StantonMooreDrumAcademy. The lessons on TH-cam are meant to be a free samples excerpted from the much longer Academy Lessons. In the longer lessons (Which are available with your membership to the Drum Academy) I definitely slow things down and go into more depth. There’s also notation on the screen and a full downloadable PDF booklet that goes with each lesson. In the mean time there is a very helpful setting in the TH-cam settings wheel that will allow you to play the video at 75% or 50%. I use this function all the time when I am trying to learn things. I hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🏼
This is the equivalent to saying black people cant play country music, or classical music. That’s just absurd. The color of someone’s skin is absolutely irrelevant. Music is music.
Black ppl pioneered country music and blues music. Black people have been essential in classical works for centuries. Read a book or google your facts before replying!!!!!!!My comment is VALUD…. There’s not soul in this musical selection. Period
Makes that music swing!

No one teaches this stuff better! Thank you :)
Thank you for tuning in! 🙌🏼🥁👊🏼
This is actually a post-WW2 version of a second line. Earlier traditional New Orleans marching bands had a beat that was somewhat more rigid.
Amazing! Thank you Stanton Moore!
Brilliant

It's a lesson not a studio session 😂

haha boom boom bam bam crash drum noises
Is this the same rhythm as the bo diddley groove?
Not quite. This is based off of a 2-3 clave on snare. Bo Diddley is based off a 3-2 clave on the floor tom. I hope that helps.
@@stantonmooremusic That makes more sense. Thanks!
How is this a drum lesson if he doesn't break down the pattern slowly?
