    It depends on how far it is pulled. They use a sled that gradually transfers weight from the rear wheels to the front as it moved forward on the track. That further the tractor pulls, the effective friction increased so it gets harder and harder to move at all the further the tractor travels.
    The engineering that goes into this is amazing. I do not get into it myself but I love the technical challenges these pull competitors face. They are the most powerful sports device, some over 10,000 hp

  • @AgrioTV

    That thing behind is called a sledge and the further the tractor pulls it, the more pressure, friction and weight will be put to the ground so the tractor will need more power to pull, untill the finish line is crossed or the sledge doesn't move anymore. The sledge has its own engine to move back to the starting position.

    yes, most of them have what are called a gas generator turbine which means the output turbine (to the reduction gearbox) is not physically connected to the compressor. The output shaft is spun by the gas generator. Not only does this work well for turbo shaft engines, but it also helps during maintenance as the engine can be split down the middle without actually disconnecting any parts besides the case

      Can you elaborate, I don't understand why having less traction would stall out the tractor. I was thought that if you have 100 percent traction then the most power would be transferred into the ground and allowing for a better pull

    • @bombersander
      @bombersander 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      in tractor pulling you want to speed up really quickly in the beginning, when the engine gets on higher revolutions it will be easier to pull the weight, now imagine if you have tyres with a lot of traction, as soon as the weight will increase too much, the wheels will dig in and become very stuck in the ground, this will actually make the revs of your engine drop gradually as it becomes harder to pull. now if you take tyres with less traction, it will allow the tyres to spin out on the dirt, BUT HERE COMES THE MAGIC. because the tyres are allowed to spin out the engine can run at higher revolutions, which makes it's pulling strength better, that means that in the last bit of the pull, you can actually push your machine to go further, which could mean the difference between winning or losing

    Dear Agrio TV,
    I'm not sure of all the competition rules but sure did love this venue at Tampa Stadium long ago as it was called back then. They may increase the weight if someone figures out how to develop jet propulsion on a gasoline burning engine(s) and/or any allowed variant thereof. I'm surprised no one has figured it out and/or unique way for added strength tied with more pulling power. Who knows? I'd rather look at entire system and puller strewn out acrossed floor detailing composition to understand the rules of the race. Thank you.
    Sincerely,

    Tractors pulls are one of the coolest things Ive ever been too! Monster Truck shows before that then maybe Jet Drag Trucks being the number one! But go to one and check them out in the pits. Look at the 4X4 class trucks. Notice the tires. A little more tread than the tractors but they are less HP, lighter & smaller tires so they compensate with the tread depth for a little more traction.

  • @explosivo262
    @explosivo262 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

  • @Outdoors1776
    @Outdoors1776 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are still ground down due to the same concept because they are still very powerful but they leave a few mm more than the tractors! If memory serves me correctly. Its like a balancing act of traction, RPM, HP and weight distribution. Less weight and you can run a little more tread but it puts you back in that window of possibly breaking something. =]

Said money could be used towards research, donations, and rebuilding homes lost in natural disasters, etc. . . I don’t know if that’s the answer you were looking for but I hope maybe that helps some or what ever it is

    How do the jets work on a tractor pull? Are they pulling the whole thing based on air movement alone or is there some kinda of crank action? Well I guess the spinning tires answers that but how does one connect a jet to a crank?

    Its cause they work better by using friction of tires/surface rather than grip. I have this info from a 1-on-1 with the mech on one of the Fox team. Though the friction tires themselves need to be cut specifically to the purpose as well, saw an interview with a Danish guy selling cut rear tires to teams all over Europe.

    It's the same as anything else like racing or stunt planes or car hydraulic contests, it started as something small for someone and got ridiculous, people enjoy watching.
    Also for some of the really confused, the contraption being pulled gets harder and harder to pull the further you go by adjusting weight and digging into the ground.

    Apparently tractor pulling is about getting friction between tires and ground, rather than digging in. Thats what I heard anyway.

    i wonder how the jet engine powered machines convert the power to the driveshaft.. is it reduction through a series of gearboxed, run on the compressor/turbine shafts?? those things spin well over 250,000rpm. i'm curious...
