I spent 3 years in Darmstadt in the early 60's durig my military time. I have been back many times over the years with my German wife. These street scenes are very familiar to me. I remember before a lot of the later day changes were made, such as before Luisen Center was built. When I was stationed in Darmstadt, the space where Luisen Center now stands was 2 blocks of an open grass land park. I remembe when there was a giant hole in the ground when Luisen Cente was built along with the parking garage under it. That was the summer of 1974, which was a very hot summer in Germany. The entire area you toured in this video was completely wiped out during the War. Ironically, the date of the bombing was 9-11! Over 12,000 Germans were killed that night! My wife was 5 years old at that time and vividly remembers it. I believe you meant to say that Darmstadt is the 4th largest city in the State of Hessen, not the Country.
Thank you it’s always so beautiful to look at European cities and lately to look at Germantown’s because they look so refined middle-class clean prosperous, very impressive Germany always thank you. I really wish we in the United States had towns and cities that were like European cities I mean I’m very grateful to be an American and live in a good city, but it would be nice to have some of this in the United States. Thank you.
Schade.
I watched four of your videos today. I really really like all the places you have shown us. Many thanks. 🙂
We were also there, same city, same time. Reminiscing about the time we spent in Darmstadt. Such a freindly place.
Glad to know you had a great time, Darmstadt is a lively city.
Thank you for watching!

I was there in the mid to late 1980’s. Both my children were born there. Military life 😊
