I've seen lots of videos now of people trying to change the note of their car (mostly BMW's) by plugging up the vacuum line. This peaked my interest and I wanted to try out myself and I thought, why not film the process and my thoughts.
The car that got the treatment was my own which is a 2008 BMW 335i.
I used my GoPro Hero 2, Hero 7 and Canon 70d to get a wide variety of shots of the car's sound. Hopefully enough to answer the question, does the golf tee mod work.

Did this today to my 1998 328i that's pretty stock in terms of performance mods. I heard some low pops/burps/crackles (whatever you want to call it) during lower rpms. The sound difference isn’t really noticeable in the cabin with windows up but windows down or listening to it idle from the outside there’s a difference and I like it.
I have a 2013 335is and did the golf tee, as well as the connector disconnect, and I have to agree that it is a complete waste of time. Didn't make any difference either way for my listening.

you know nothing about that exhaust valve. If you dont have golf tee mode and start cold car flap is being open during about 20sec. Without golf tee valve is closing and opening during drive. Flap always open if you reach 3000 rpm. Golf tee mode leave flap open all the time. Deeper sound in lower rpm.
Why are you revving it? Makes no sense. Without the mod it opens up automatically at 3k. The mod only helps to have it open at lower rpm.
So camparing sound at >3k rpm makes 0 sense as it is the exact same.
Only difference is that without the mod, even after 3k rpm it closes as soon as you lift the gas. So its only opened at acceleration.
I did something similar on my F30 last week, but it's an electronic actuator not a vacuum hose set up. I had no choice though, the spring clip thing that opens and closes the muffler flap came off so I wired the flap permanently open, No probs so far and it's actually quieter inside the car. The muffler flap is a load of crap, I'm leaving mine wired open.
Sounds like that would be the ticket! I think I'd likely just get a full exhaust system to really get the car sounding right. But then I'd have to get a tune too...$$$ haha
@@focusondetailing3855 Yeah crazy $$$ and if its not right you'll be mucking around with check engine lights lol I'm Happy with my diesel sounding 328i, goes like a rocket for what it is. Only mod I've done apart from the muffler flap is a K&N filter, that would have given me at least an extra 35kw at the wheels for sure 😉😂😂😂😂
If you dont unplug the electrical plug in, the motor in the actuator will constantly be trying to pull again your wire. Prob wont do anything but still

Do you get much detailing jobs or do you just do it for the fun?
I've always done it for fun, I love doing it haha. I've been getting a steady flow of work lately which is great but the stress to constantly find more isn't always there as I work as a draftsman now too.

I don't see any difference
I get a lot more backfire in my 335i with this mod. My dad had a 335i without this mod and we can tell a difference.

N55 is wayyyyy better sounding than n54
N54 is waaayyy faster than the n55

@@erikmoralesrenteria2464 Not really. The N54 is only stronger on stock internals past 500 hp and you don't really wanna leave it stock beyond 600hp. And then you do the single turbo swap anyways or the N54 gets too hot. So it's a wash really.
