Hi Kayla!! Great video. As someone who works in this field, I urge you to STAY BOTH KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CONFIDENT!! Read everything you can get your hands on. Emily Kendrick I am a senior as well trying to be in the same field, I recommend seeing if a police department near you does any programs. I do programs with my local PD to atleast get an insight on this field.
Just found your channel ! I loved it girl ! I’m double majoring in criminal justice and psychology! I’m attending a CC than a UC so right now I was thinking about going into political science but I think you might of changed my mind. There’s so much I needed to know ! Thank you!!!
I’m currently a senior in high school and I love the study of human behaviors and what motivates people do act on the things they do, would that be more of a degree for forensic psychology or criminal psychology, if neither which other degree would be helpful for my future?
understanding human behavior and why human behave the way they do is so satisfying, especially that our lives involves social interactions. On a more broad level, i will recommend that you study Psychology with Sociology. Psychology will help you understand people in their private being while sociology will allow you to understand people in group process.
thanks for clarifying! I've always said I wanted to do forensic psychology because I didn't know there was a difference, but I think criminology better describes what I want to pursue one day
I am studying psychology and sociology and I am particularly interested in crime and deviance. I volunteered with offenders before and it wasn't so bad. I think I am mentally deficient in that whatever someone has done or will do it doesn't bother me, I don't get scared and am incapable of hating someone but I want to sculpt that into a strength. Just because I was apathetic and numb when my best friend confessed to her crimes, or when I had to save a life of a friend who attempted suicide doesn't mean I don't have a place in society. I was thinking though if I should become a forensic psychologist or study crime through a sociological perspective as I seem to prefer sociology to psychology so far.
Hello! I'm extremely interested in pursuing a career in forensic psychology and/or criminology. What should I do in the future in terms of classes and jobs/internships?
I just got to this video but I’m so glad to see that there were other people in the same boat as me a couple of years ago! I’m planning on going into criminology because I’ve always been fascinated by analyzing behaviors. This video was extremely helpful, thank you!
heyy how’s it like to study criminology? and can you kindly explain what’s the difference between criminology and criminal psychology? do you get to learn about what motivates criminals to commit crimes and their behavior in criminology?
im gonna be a 16 year old attending college, and even though it’s gonna be hard i’ve got it together, majoring in Forensic Psychology and minoring in criminal justice
It depends on the type of Forensic Psychologist. For example, I plan on becoming a Clinical Forensic Psychologist. So part of my job will be conducting assessments to determine if a criminal is fit to stand trial
hey kayla, is there a real difference between forensic and criminal psychology? i did look it up and i guess it's just the goals (criminal psychologists: finding out why the perpotrator did what they did) of the two careers but i need a little bit of help from a forensic psychology major just to clarify that.
I was taught that the main difference is Criminal Psychologists typically get involved during the crime, and Forensic Psychologists become involved once the crime has already been committed. Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for this video I literally just emailed my admissions counselor and said can you switch my major from criminology to forensic psychology. And then you popped up and this confirmed my interest in this field!
HI! I really really hope you're able to read this. I'm currently a college freshman pursuing a major in psychology. I've actually just learned about forensic psychology and I think it's something that I would like to do in the future since I'm passionate in both law and aspects of the mind and how it works. To get further into my goal of becoming a clinical forensic psychologist, I wanted to ask a few questions. Do you think doing a psychology major along with a minor in forensic investigation and policing is a good option, or a minor in criminal justice? I was also thinking whether or not I should double major in psychology and criminal justice. Please let me know what you think! I think you're input will give me lots of clarity. Thanks so much, and btw I love your videos!
forensic psychology is psychology in the context of law, and the application of the science and profession of psychology to questions and issues relating to law and the legal system. out of all the options here it involves the widest range of jobs. there are many things you can do as a forensic psychologist and a bunch of places to work in - courtrooms, hospitals, police station, researcher + many more. criminal psychology focuses on abnormal behavioral patterns and studying thoughts, feelings and behaviors of criminals. crimonlogy focuses on studying causes of crimes and ways to prevent it. there's obviously a much more depth explanation to these subjects and I could link you a few videos that explain it in a more concise way than I could! i might be slightly wrong about some of these, but that's the knowledge on these subjects I have atm, as I'm also trying to decide on what I want to do for college. hope this helps a little!

I am interested in the crimes, why people commit these violent crime, the recidivism rate for people who commit these violent crimes but at the same time I also want to look at the mental health of these offenders. Like you mentioned that anyone in any area in psychology can be a forensic psychologist, so should I focus on the criminology side of it first as I can choose the path of forensic psychology after any area in psychology later?
Hi so I am interested in knowing the mind of a person with mental and personality disorder and I want to treat them a and understand them better but I am also open to talk with criminals who have some psychological relation. thank you for this video! both sides sound so interesting so i'm not sure which i would like to go into more but i'm really interested in becoming a clinical forensic psychologist. do you know if being diagnosed with a mental illness would negatively affect getting a job in psychology? thank you :)
no, criminology mainly looks at sociological factors and statistics behind crime and a lot of the modules (at least in my uni) overlap with sociology. forensic psychology is what really looks into the psyche of a criminal's mind and the psychological reasons for it + overall psychology - later in life you'll be able to work in evaluating criminals' mental state in various ways for various things. criminology students can really only work in the police force or social services or perhaps surveillance, it doesn't really give you an exact job to do. with forensic psychology the degree is normally accredited with the local psychology organisations too so you can work in many psychology related jobs. hope this helped :) x
I want to go into this field but work with cases about children who were abused and neglected and i guess in general work on cases and bring evidence, interview/ law etc. Just unsure what career is this 😆 Do you think just majoring in criminology is the right one?
