I went through Basic training in 2020, I can truly say DS are still VERY aggressive, the only time we were treated as people is 2 weeks before graduation where they told us how proud they were that we got so far.
I’ve been to the new basic . This is a tired troupe but 2020 is easy as fuck now . There are new rules wear they can’t yell at you or set their hands on you …….🙄. I volunteered in 2001 for obvious reasons . I am sure the guys who went through basic in Vietnam era had it harder .

This is only during your “toughening” phase afterward they become more like proud Mentors rather than straight up bullies. It’s an experience I wouldn’t change because it did build strength and character. In the en me the point is to see how you deal with excessive stress and pressure.
@@noname23127 Then again, multiple DS and companies I went through were reported for abuse and were in big trouble for violating Rules. It was to the point where us trainees were apologized to by a sergeant major and even had a 4 star General visit us to make sure people in posts ions of Authority were put in check. So I can say my experience was quite unique in many cases due to COVID camp where we were treated pretty unfairly as sick individuals as well. Anywho, The Army isn’t for the weak so I don’t blame of them.

One company actually got a talking to, for being too harsh (there was a lot of heat casualties, excessively high). On the other hand, one group I met from another bn said they got to use their phone once a week for an hour, which seems way too kind. In other words, people probably hear about easy stories and then assume it applies to everyone. There are people who complain about the stress card existing, when it never existed in the Army.
When I was in the military I was pretty intimidated/motivated by my drill sgts because of their aggressive tones. If my drill sgt had this gentle of a tone I'd probably not have gotten as far as I did. 😂
Was the opposite for us when I was at Knox. When the Drills came in calm like that, we knew the walls were gonna sweat and the windows were gonna bleed.
That's why I'd never enlist. I wouldn't handle people yelling at me and being all agressive. I never liked authority growing up and I would have talked back.

Marine...during bootcamp it was 90+ (black flag) drill instructor had us drink canteens back to back.... that day I had to pee 4 times in an hour...I will never forget it.... asked to pee while going to battalion PT...asked while we were waiting for everyone else 3rd time we were in PT and couldn't hold it anymore and no drill instructor ask to go ended up pissing myself.... 4th time figured fuck it already pissed myself....
We had hydration formation....we ate fruit that tasted like ashes and drank all the water from canteens even if it was all 4 lol...cause those canteens tasted like mud water lol....they were still getting used to not being able to touch ppl when I first joined

Neither of the DS was any near my DS when I went through basic. They were nice in the reception center then they marched us down the road and into company grounds then shark frenzy happened there was 8 DS and their assistant DS yelling screaming calling you names. Working you running you until someone passed out. That was just the warm up. It went on all day and night for 12 weeks.

I just got out of basic. It was closer to the first video. We got our phone 15 minutes if we were lucky half the time they wouldn't give it to us. We had a calcium bar before bed 4 times a week to help make sure our bones didn't snap. Sure it may not be as hard as it was back in the 1800s but it was no cake Walk

@Dr RedEyez69 It's not about only getting our phone for 15 minutes. Before cell phones they used phones provided to them so soldiers didn't break down from being away from their family. People call their family once a week, the country isn't collapsing.

I'm going to be honest. The way people assess over the military not being as "hard" it's like a bunch of people mad that they can't Haze people like they got hazed. Everything I have looked at said that kind of hazing you really didn't produce the goal that was looking for. That's why they switched more over to team based exercises in basic training instead of just yelling at people.

Sure you got yelled at but you get used to that eventually that becomes nothing and there's a reason why it used to be so harsh and that's because it was a psychological change now that psychological changes week because they're not getting as much as other people did. The military would have no reason to give such harsh punishments if there was no purpose behind it, an extremely psychologically changed soldier a soldier who's been through a lot in training who has been treated the way that they are and has been built up by the people who have treated them that way creates an emotionally strong and a focused troop. I do agree that you can still be a good soldier without it being so harsh but there's a reason why it was so harsh and people are just triggered because it was so harsh and they don't like that but it's literally the military.

You can have more people join the military by lowering how harsh it is but all that does is give you more numbers that doesn't give you more power.

I remember being so tired after getting "smoked" for two separate incidents in a week's time (and fire guard every night after my extra duty) that I fell asleep walking post. Another guy got caught with dip and was forced to eat the entire can, then drink water until he puked it all up. The "problem child" (as illustrated in scenario two) was dragged out to the wood line one night..... only to have "accidentally fallen down the steps"..... looked to have taken at least three solid blows to the face. But hey, whatever....

Marine...during bootcamp it was 90+ (black flag) drill instructor had us drink canteens back to back.... that day I had to pee 4 times in an hour...I will never forget it.... asked to pee while going to battalion PT...asked while we were waiting for everyone else
3rd time we were in PT and couldn't hold it anymore and no drill instructor ask to go ended up pissing myself.... 4th time figured fuck it already pissed myself....
We had hydration formation....we ate fruit that tasted like ashes and drank all the water from canteens even if it was all 4 lol...cause those canteens tasted like mud water lol....they were still getting used to not being able to touch ppl when I first joined

Neither of the DS was any near my DS when I went through basic. They were nice in the reception center then they marched us down the road and into company grounds then shark frenzy happened there was 8 DS and their assistant DS yelling screaming calling you names. Working you running you until someone passed out. That was just the warm up. It went on all day and night for 12 weeks.

I just got out of basic. It was closer to the first video. We got our phone 15 minutes if we were lucky half the time they wouldn't give it to us. We had a calcium bar before bed 4 times a week to help make sure our bones didn't snap. Sure it may not be as hard as it was back in the 1800s but it was no cake Walk

I'm going to be honest. The way people assess over the military not being as "hard" it's like a bunch of people mad that they can't Haze people like they got hazed. Everything I have looked at said that kind of hazing you really didn't produce the goal that was looking for. That's why they switched more over to team based exercises in basic training instead of just yelling at people.

Sure you got yelled at but you get used to that eventually that becomes nothing and there's a reason why it used to be so harsh and that's because it was a psychological change now that psychological changes week because they're not getting as much as other people did.
The military would have no reason to give such harsh punishments if there was no purpose behind it, an extremely psychologically changed soldier a soldier who's been through a lot in training who has been treated the way that they are and has been built up by the people who have treated them that way creates an emotionally strong and a focused troop.
I do agree that you can still be a good soldier without it being so harsh but there's a reason why it was so harsh and people are just triggered because it was so harsh and they don't like that but it's literally the military.

I remember being so tired after getting "smoked" for two separate incidents in a week's time (and fire guard every night after my extra duty) that I fell asleep walking post. Another guy got caught with dip and was forced to eat the entire can, then drink water until he puked it all up. The "problem child" (as illustrated in scenario two) was dragged out to the wood line one night..... only to have "accidentally fallen down the steps"..... looked to have taken at least three solid blows to the face. But hey, whatever....
