- In the ’80s, the decade of excess, McDonald’s introduced the McDLT.
- The XXL Chalupa was 57% larger than the original Chalupa and contained more seasoned ground beef, crispy lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and nacho cheese sauce, topped with sour cream all rolled up in one big Chalupa flatbread.

I worked at Pizza Hut in the mid-nineties, and the problem with the Big Foot was that it was a nightmare to make. About 30 percent of the time the dough would tear while we were trying to stretch it because there really wasn't enough dough for the size when you made it according to spec.

Right, this video is WHY it's seasonal. As a regular menu item, it's a failure, but if they bring it back only seasonally ,then those who actually do like it will scramble to get them while they are available. The McRib is the prime example of how to market a 'failure' to the public. Burger King did the same thing with their Chicken Fries for awhile before they finally decided to add them permanently, but so far McDonalds hasn't had that same overall success with the McRib.

McRib shouldn't be on here. It was actually better than their burgers and definitely better than their chicken sandwiches.
And it wasn't a failure as they bring it back when pork prices are low.

I used to work for Taco Bell when they had the XXL Chalupas. We actually were putting the extra beef in there. What people didn't realize is that there were a set amount of scoops of beef and toppings that we were allowed to put in it, which was 2. The most annoying part was hearing people not wanting to pay for extra beef. Just order a shell and make it at home. Lol

Ummm, last item mentioned, the XXL Chalupa, is current. Still prepared as discribed. In other words, you can still get one. Comes with a hard taco, cinnamon twists and a drink. All for $5. At least here in Ohio. Served in a box.

I'm from Iowa, but every Pizza Hut near me still has taco pizza on the menu. Then again, taco pizza was supposedly originated in Iowa and is super popular in the area.
I love cookies and cheesecake is my favourite dessert so imagine a plain cheese cake but there’s cookie dough inside and inside of the cookie warm dough there’s baked cookies and u can dip it in any ice cream OMG that would be delicious 🤤
I used to work at McDonald's in the late 80s/early to mid 90s and I loved the McRib and wished it could've stayed on the menu in the UK permanently. But the McDLT was rubbish and take my word for it when I tell you. It was a pain in the ass to prepare.

One of the biggest failures of McDonald's Germany is the "Currywurst". They had it some years ago and it was disgusting. Now it came back and it is even more disgusting than it was before.

The McDLT was awesome. When it came up in the video, I knew what they would say was the demise. Bad timing. What is messed up is that the restaurant chain Cook Out (east coast chain) uses Styrofoam containers heavily. I had it a couple years ago and was surprised to see what they used as containers.

Our pizza hut still sells the taco pizza and is very popular. The trick is to order it on thin crust where it tasted better than the pan version.

To counter the point of the Chalupa, or at least for me, Taco Bell's Double Chalupa does seem to be quite larger than a regular one. Having bought it recently before it was put away again, I'd like to confirm the size of it as advertised for the store I went to at the very least.
The taco bell I used to get it from was exactly like in the picture, I was bummed when they no longer had it...🙁

I think a common trend with these, is that either the market is set in its ways and has pigeonholed the firms to the point they reject any attempt at change, or the restaurants, having been built and timed around the classic menu items, are simply not equipped nor has the time for newer options.

I used to eat fish mcbites all the time. In fact, it’s the only meat option I would eat there ever since I found out the nuggets are actually made of disgusting sludge and the burgers acted more like plastic rather than regular burgers.

Used to work at Pizza Hut. I can imagine the bigfoot slowed times down. Between it taking up room in the oven it would take forever to cut. When you have a bunch of pizzas coming out all at once things are gonna get backed up and you're either gonna have pizzas burning or falling to the floor. Or both.

All veal calves are treated inhumaely. They never eat grass or grain, subsisting only on milk. That's why veal is so light colored. These calves are also anemic, weak, and kept in very small pens with no exercise. I don't allow veal in my house. (Jan Griffiths).

So McDonalds made the hula burger to compete with the Fillet-o-fish... which they served. They created a product to compete with their own product.
the bigfoot pizza was probably unprofitable for the company. Really big and really cheap, plus with multiple toppings. Especially with all those promotions they were doing on it, they probably lost money on it
McRib is actually quite nice in my opinion

Ok, i haven't visited one on a year or two so maybe that is why i have never seen them. I am 100% that it has not been an item seen on the menu at the restaurants i have visited all over Germany. I would have had it if i would have had the change.

McDonald's Hula Burger was never meant to be taken seriously, never meant to stay on the menu permanently, and was a joke. Franchise owners in heavily Catholic areas were complaining that their sales went down during Lent. One of them came up with the idea of the Filet-O-Fish, a sandwich that Catholics could eat during Lent. Ray Kroc thought that the Filet-O-Fish was a ridiculous idea. To prove how ridiculous it was, he invented the Hula Burger, another sandwich that had no meat, and bet the franchise owners who were pushing the Filet-O-Fish that his Hula Burger would outsell the Filet-O-Fish. Of course, Kroc did not expect the Hula Burger to sell well at all, but he thought it would sell better than the Filet-O-Fish and prove to the franchisees that the Filet-O-Fish was a bad idea. Surprise, the Hula Burger did not sell better than the Filet-O-Fish and the Filet-O-Fish sold well enough to become a permanent menu item. But anyway, my point is, the Hula Burger was never meant to be taken seriously.

Mcfish Bites were popular in Australia for a limited time not too long ago.
But I feel McDonalds uses Australia to push a lot of their new menu items as well. Same goes for KFC.
But then again, our McDonalds and KFC food quality is 100% better than America's. Only going by what many of my family and friend have experienced overseas.
Also, my son would never touch Chicken nuggets. To this day, he still hates them and prefers fried fish over chicken anyday. He is only 12, but rather eat lobster and prawns than chicken lol!
