Conor Moriarty, Kilcummin, Killarney, Co. Kerry. All Ireland Accordion Champion at the All Ireland Fleadh Ceoil, Cavan 2010. Conor plays 3 reels from Finbarr O'Dwyer's compositions
This young man is a great player. With my firstt wage of eight shillings, and six pence, 73 years ago, I used the sixpence to buy A Hohner Sunny boy mouth organ, as we called them then, now they are posh Harmonicas, or Harps, with prices to match. Anyway, I taught myself to play basic music by ear, shortly afterwards I bought a penny whistle, on which I did likewise. In short I knew nothing about chords, and bass, still don,t, the point is, that this fine box player, on the final reel he was very sparing with his left hand, and his reel still sounded great. So there,s still hope for me.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great sense of melody ...like Finbar Dwyer....we should hear more of this on all instruments...nice bass selection .. nice use of the classical turn ...good key changes . this would make me feel like taking up the accordion. '' .well done!
Good man Connor.I videod you at Kiskeam ,Padraig O Keeffee's Music festival 2 years ago.You are a credit to your Parents and Kilcummon co Kerry, and from Johnny Brosnan's spot on the map as well.
Ril Bheara which looks like Scots Gaelic, "Bear Island Reel" it's on the Cunninham brothers' recording "Against the Storm" which I can't find on youtube. Here's an uilleann piper playing a variant, TH-cam address VILeUafffuw
Excellent! In his playing, as the old saying goes, " you can hear the curlew in the mountains" . It wasn't,t from behind the door he brought this talent. His mother and father, John and Mary, are steeped in the Sliabh Luachra musical tradition, both being Set Dancing teachers. Great music!
Irish music is the best. I love it. I also believe the ancient picts of Scotland trace back to Ireland. Which means the clans will trace back to Ireland also.
Hi Connor, my new Accordion Hero. Thank you for the nice concert in Tonder. Lucky me to meet you!! Do you join the Fleadh in Mullingar next year? Best regards from Hamburg - all the best for you - Britta
Rosie Nolan Your Daddy may be really good... anyway, when you say you expected "better", it's only on mechanical skills comparison, which is the only quantifiable thing in music. The other thing is sentiment, and this guy hasn't got a lack of it. Sure you don't play the box anyway ^^ or if you do maybe your ego has grown a bit too much =)
+343Arbre Exactly. There is nothing more annoying than ego-driven "my Daddy/Son/Daughter is better" comments from non-musicians. It's about conveying the music well. Nobody cares too much about differences in technical ability outside of this.
Hi Conor. I was just wondering if I could ask you a question. I've been using a small little hohner box for a quite a while now, but my accordion tutor insists I upgrade. Do you recommend the Paolo Soprani or the Salterelle? I'm just starting out with the bass side, but I should have the bass perfect by the time I get the money to get a better box. I'm just looking for a second approval. Cheers.
sorry for being a bit harsh . I just thought it was a bit grim criticising the man without any technical or justifiable foundation for it . Your dads a good box player though thats for sure
coming back to this video year after year…what a gem! ❤
