    Have you ever had that you're listening to an episode late, and then immediately after the 'ciao', patrick hits you with a new 'welcome back to the LRCP', the best feeling.

    That downhill and kick back up is very twisty and narrow especially where it gets steep. Hopefully everyone stays upright 🤞

    Kopecky also crashed at the Olympic ITT.
    Think when Tarling skipped U23 last year he also said it would be a bit unfair with him being on a full Ineos TT setup competing against guys on normal equipment.

  • @claire2088
    @claire2088 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I feel like who's riding the U23 worlds is mostly sorting itself out anyway- like we see a few riders there who might raise an eyebrow, but if they think they're competitive for the mens they compete there, remco, pogi, skelmose, girmay, jorgensen all skipped U23 that they would have been competitive for (sometimes in favour of the ME, but sometimes skipping all together- I guess winning the jersey would feel slightly pointless if you'd never get to actually wear it in a competition), this year Tarling, Onley, Ayuso, Sheffield and Vacek (among other's) are skipping the U23 in preference for ME
    Maybe del toro shouldn't be eligible for U23, but he's 20! as much as he's had some success at elite level he's so young

  • @MDP1702
    @MDP1702 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Another thing with the U23 discussion, some riders might really want to achieve a certain goal. For example Segaert wants to win U23 WC which he hasn't succeeded a yet and which is why he rode U23 EC ITT. With this rule you prevent riders from achieving such a goal.
    For all we know he'll never win WC ITT with the pro's, so being WC ITT at the U23 is then something special to have.

  • @MrIlineusz
    @MrIlineusz หลายเดือนก่อน

    You could also do a U23 classification for the elite race, kinda like the white jersey in grand tours

    11:32 Remco was fastest on that hill section in the first TdF ITT though. He lost time in the descent afterwards.

    @paulhahn694 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What do you think about Pogacar? Should he have ridden this course or does he have no chance at all? How much would the time trial have influenced his road race preparation? And what do you think are the chances that he retires with a time trial WC?

    • @adrianbuck8772
      @adrianbuck8772 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Time Trial WC should be really difficult considering that both Remco and Tarling are younger than him.

    • @MDP1702
      @MDP1702 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What is with people thinking Roglic has a chance on this course? It isn't at all good for him. Him podiuming would be an upset. Top 5 would be a great result.

    • @torontocycling
      @torontocycling หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@MDP1702 1) This course is not pancake flat, you might wanna check Tokyo Olympics TT or Basque country stage 1 as well where he won. 2) Longer courses suit him more and 3) he is fresh off of his Vuelta where on flat TT he was close to Stefan Kung in the final stage and he didn't even push max because of his diarrhea (caused by Salmonella).
      It is well known Benji hates Roglic, so bare me your sympathy please. Whether or not he podiums is a different story.

    • @devoarco
      @devoarco หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@torontocyclingI'm Rogla all the way but Küng just lost 10s to affini on a flat tt in the european championships and got 8th in the olympics in a flat tt, losing 1.35 on remco. Yes, roglic is a strong time trialist but on the flat sections he is currently not able to match the likes of ganna, tarling and remco. I'd be nice to see him win a medal, but the jersey seems out of reach

    • @MDP1702
      @MDP1702 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@torontocycling
      1) The Tokyo olympics course was very hilly and nearly constantly up and down. It was 17 vertical meters/km vs 8,8 now. Itzulia was 18 and Remco didn't even go full after his early crash, it being only a short TT stage in a longer stage race.
      33,5km is almost completely flat straight, perfect for the pure TT riders and bad for Roglic who shines in technical/risky and hilly TT's. Yes, the hill section should suite him more than anyone but Remco, however it also shouldn't have too much of an impact. Most is 5-6% of less, still very doable for most strong riders to not lose too much time on.
      2) They most certainly don't. Even his own trainer said he suffers with race exhaustion and non-pure TT riders generally suffer more the longer a TT goes on, since then the impact of lesser cda vs power really makes a big impact. Maybe longer very hilly/mountainous ones, but not long (semi-)flat ones.
      3) He wasn't close to Küng (30") and the last ITT in a 21 day race doesn't necessarily say much. Affini was 1'05 slower than Kung and beat him 3 days later in the EC. Küng isn't at the level of Ganna, Tarling and Remco normally too. And ofcourse there is the great chance of decompression with Roglic after the Vuelta too, though I don't count it in.
      Imo (if everyone is at good level) Remco, Tarling, Ganna all should definitely be ahead him (normally WVA too). Küng likely too (better on the flat and was climbing good in the Vuelta). Then we have riders like McNulty, sheffield, Cattaneo, Affini, Almeida, Bjerg who also could do a good result on a course like this, not all better than Roglic ofcourse, but some possibly.
      This is why I'd say Roglic riding top 5 would already be a really good result for him and podiuming a fantastic result.
