  • A panel of speakers from the cosmetics industry participated in a Q&A session providing an interesting insight into the industry.
    The panel includes:
    Dr Chris Flower, Director-General, Cosmetic Toiletry & Perfumery Association
    Dr Peter Taylor, Principal Lecturer in Pharmaceutics De Montfort University
    Jo Fairley, Journalist/Author of Green Beauty Bible
    Jayney Goddard, President, The Complementary Medicine Association.
    The debate was chaired by Alice Hart-Davis, award winning beauty journalist and creator of Good Things skincare.
    Joint lecture with the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS).
    This lecture took place on Thursday 3 October 20113.

    I came upon this video in trying to find out what impact manufacturing cosmetics has on the environment.

    Ok shampoos may not affect our skin but what about the water it runs through and where it goes? With all the people washing every day, all the chemical content going in the water... You can't tell me it is unharmful for the environment -_-

    Ingredients are of course listed on products but it seems possible that cross-products of these chemicals might also be present in the product - e.g. from aldol or diels-alder reactions. Of course these reactions could be influenced by shelf time, sunlight and other ingredients. Does the ingredients list accurately represent content and is this issue accounted for?

    You can pretty much skip the first 11 minutes. It is boring and means nothing.
