🤣 Even I'll say the revolvers look good. I've always liked those Trackers in particular. Edit: I still stand by my sentiment. Taurus has done a decent job turning around...but they will have to keep it up for many more years before they earn the undying loyalty so many have for them. And I'm still willing to punch anyone who says Taurus is better than Glock and Smith....
@@MattP-BandB Thats actually a scary picture. I dont know if people realize just how damn big of a man you are. Now almost I feel bad for the Taurus fans....almost🤣
I've never understood this belief that you have to have brand recognition type of thing out of an EDC. If I'm going to be pulling my EDC I don't think me and the person I have to pull on are gonna talk about what my brand is and how that is not as good as a glock or a S&W or whatever. I love my Taurus and the fact is I don't care what brand is considered the best. Mine works perfectly for me. That's what matters.
I have the 856 myself, and the G3 also. Both are good little guns. I actually use a Hi-Point for home defense. It's the 45 JHP model. I love it to death.
@@haveyounoticedtheshieldsar3467 Ihave the 856UL. It has been great, o er 500 rounds throigh it. Still can put all rounds touching at 10 yards (if I do my part). Like it so much I just picked up another. You do know you shot it, but it isn't horrible, even with +P
I'm a retired cop from the 7th largest city and now a sitting judge in Texas. I've been carrying an old school 100% titanium taurus for 20 years as a back up. Mine is in electric blue--looks like a pimp gun, but I don't care. It's very light and works 100%, NO stoppages.
I have always owned Taurus going back to the 80's. I have never had any problems. I now own a Taurus Raging Judge Magnum and an Taurus 856. Absolutely love them both! Many rounds down range, not a problem.Great value in any Taurus from my experience!
Raging Judge Magnum.. the name generator machine at the Taurus house deserves a raise... Sounds like they're pumping plenty of testosterone into that algorithm
I know alot of people rag on taurus but I have a 608, 607, and a raging judge magnum. Never, ever had any issues with any of them. Plus the lifetime warranty that travels with the pistol, can't beat it. I'm thinking I'm gonna get one of these revolvers for off duty carry.
I've had pretty good luck out of Taurus guns. But if you do try to use their"Warranty" - good luck ! I tried 2 different times. What a joke! Their customer service is horrible! To be blunt- they are very rude and very unhelpful. Just total ass holes! And when I ordered 2 over priced magazines from them- it took them over 10;months and several phone calls for them to deliver them. I had 3 Taurus guns at the time. I sold 2 of them and gave a brand new, unfired G2C to my son for his birthday. I've dealt with several gun companies over the years.Taurus has the WORST, non-existent customer service in the business. Bottom line- Taurus- decent guns. Horrible customer support. If you ever get a Taurus, just hope you never have to try to deal with them. Be prepared to fix It yourself or throw it in a lake. Just pitiful !
I owned and shot a few dozen Taurus. Their revolvers are spot on. Never an issue to be had. Many of the pistols were modern 9mm semi automatics that worked flawlessly. But my favorite Taurus is the PT-92 semi auto, made in Brazil and imported into Miami back in 1982. I’ve shot the hell out of this pistol and it has Never had a failure to eject or failure to fire.
I have heard disrespects for Taurus for years, own several, and liked the guns, and the price is less than other brands. About 20 years ago I gave my daughter a .38 spl Taurus airweight when she left for college. One night a potential rapist caught her on a pedestrian bridge late at night and put her in a headlock. She jammed the airweight in his ribs and thumbed the hammer back, preparing to fire, while telling him he was about to get shot. he immediately released her, apologized, and was gone. So I am a real fan of Taurus revolvers; they work great!
I have 2 Taurus a .380 and a 38spl. Both are great guns. I’m not trashing Taurus I just got a gun that they passed QC how I don’t know but I still like Taurus.
I carry my 605 with Buffalo Bore "heavy 38" 38 specials with the 158 grain soft lead SWC with gas check. I get just under 1000 fps and consistently great expansion. I was a cop for a lot of years and I remember vividly the experience of cutting loose with a .357 mag. load, indoors during a drug bust! It took me and the other officer with me about a week to get our hearing back! These Buffalo Bore loads perform as well as most .357 loads, without the terrific noise and recoil.. You should try them! PS: great video!
I'll keep my eye out for the Buffalo Bore. I've shot many of their offerings in the past. I've grown to respect their loadings. I shot a 357 without hearing protection ONCE. I don't wanna do that again. I can imagine how loud it is indoors.
Remember, for a time Taurus and Smith & Wesson were owned by the same entity and during those years they shared revolver technology which benefitted Taurus immensely.
I'm reminded of a story that the ladies will roll their eyes at. A few years back I bought a Taurus 85 chambered in .38 Special +P for my then wife, for Valentine's Day. I thought practically, as men tend to do more often than not. I wanted her to have something she could protect herself with, that was easy to operate, when I wasn't around. What could say love more than that? My sentiments went over like a turd in a punch bowl. She was disappointed in the gift; and I was sad that she didn't care for that particular heartfelt Valentine's Day gift. We have since divorced (surprise, right? 🤣) and I now have the 85. My buddies all laugh at the story, and usually comment that it's probably best that I remain single. They might just be right.
I have 856UL and carry it daily. I also shoot at least several cylinders of ammo through it every time I’m at the range. I’ve put quite a few rounds through it at this point with zero issues. I do a decent discussion video on the 856UL. As far as the 605 goes my friend has one and she carries it daily + shoots it at the range every time she’s there. She has almost 1000 rounds through it at this point with zero issues. Nice video by the way.
I used to own the taurus 605 2” and 85 2”. Sold them but do kind of regret it because a they were great and dependable. I currently own an 686 plus 3”, GP100 3” and Taurus Defender 605 3”. The low cost supposedly “inferior” 3” Taurus 605 shoots MORE accurately at 15 - 25 yards than the higher price revolvers! That said, the 605 3” is pretty painful to shoot in 357 past 15 rounds, but for a low price you get a dependable, accurate firearm with a bright front sight that doubles as a night sight! Also, as firearms and ammo prices have been a rising roller coaster the last 3 years, Taurus has continued to produce quality AFFORDABLE revolvers. Well done and thank you Taurus!!
I've had a 605 for a few years now and it's turned into my favorite carry gun as well. Only gripe I have about it is that with the stock grips, when trying to empty the cylinder one of the spent cartridges always hangs up on the grip, so I never bothered getting a speedloader for it because I assumed it would have the same clearance issue when loading. Other than that I am more than happy and trust that 5 rounds of .357 magnum will be plenty for most any situation I come across while out and about
I've been front pants pocket Conceal Carrying a Tauras Snub Nose .44 Special Ultra Lite (22oz's) for about eight years now. Same knockdown force as a 1911 .45 When walking near questionable people / situations I have my right hand in my front pants pocket on my .44, I can have the gun drawn in a nanosecond.
Personally I think Taurus has a few good lines of pistols and crap ton of horrible ones (which obviously give them the rep). But their revolvers, PT92 (baretta clone), and obviously the G2c/G3 are all really good rigs. Unfortunately you gotta wade through the crap to find the jewels.
@Dave Alexander I can agree with you there and with the PT111G2 they (finger quotes) fixed a lot of it in the G2c and subsequently the G3 full-sized. A much better trigger in the G2c with doublestrike capability. MCarbo and some other companies like them are making upgrades to improve this platform some but yea. Taurus could gain A LOT by just doing these basic changes inhouse.
Always made good products , at very good prices ....never really understood where the nay sayers were coming from . Always assumed ppl buying used Taurus that a amature smiths had tried to needlessly "improve" . Quite a lot of trigger princesses out there...a trigger is a trigger is a trigger if you know how to shoot.
I swore off revolvers over 20 years ago but this video has made me reconsider my current relationship with my Glock. That is a nice little set up and you can never have enough guns. Thank you.
I carried my Colt Python for 2 decades until i went & got old where a 4" barrell Python became uncomfortable, plus with the value of clean Pythons skyrocketing i picked up a 605 & love it .
I’ve carried a nickel 605 with a factory bobbed hammer and muzzle ports since 2007. I carry Hornady 38 +P Critical Defense in a N82 Tactical holster, appendix carry. 357 is a little too much flame! Super comfortable. Almost invisible with any clothing.
@@PatRMG There is a really nice one on Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071XZ2NN4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I own this holster and am really happy with it. You mileage may vary
This one is staying with me all the time right now. I'm serious when I say that my Glock doesn't know what happened to me. This pocket carry is so comfortable and accessible that I've ditched my G27 for a month or two now.
@354 HEMI I hope you enjoy that combination as much as I do. I carry it all day, working and all. Then, I'm at home eating dinner, reacting with family, and watching TV. I don't remember the gun until it's time to put it in the lock box before bedtime. Super comfortable.
I feed my 605 the Buffalo Bore "heavy 38" load with the 158 gr. soft lead SWC HP with gas check. 2 reasons: like you, I have found this load to be fully capable of handling any two-legged varmints I'll ever run into, and since I carry it indoors as well, I appreciate the decibel reduction with the 38s. I also have the option of carrying any number of .357 mag loads when my wife and I take hikes in the mountains here in Wyoming. She carries a CZ 75 compact 9mm, but she is just beginning to look longingly at my 605! Oh, well, I guess two 605s in the family would be OK! God bless you and yours.
I had a Taurus 66 and I loved the factory rubber grips on it. After I bought a S&W 686+ I traded the 66 to my brother since it's the same gun with a cheaper finish; he loves it too. My son bought a very lightly used 605 today and that's what lead me here.
I hVe carried a 1911 for years. Not a big revolver fan. I picked up a taurus 856 ultra lite. And wow i love it no more saggy pants. It is my edc. $269 plus tax and i have a good no... awesome little gun on my side or in my pocket. 250 rounds through it my first day owning it not one issue. I love it
I bought a Taurus 85 25 years ago, and I still carry it to this day. I have not had a single problem out of it at all. Couldn't tell you how many rounds I have put through it. It has the original wood grips still, but as the eyes are going, I am looking to get a set of Crimson Trace laser grips. The $200.00 + price is whats holding me back. People seem to think a small frame revolver should be good out past 20 yards, it ain't. But inside 20, it'll put a hurtin on ya.
The Crimson Trace grips are nice. I've got a pair here for a Smith and Wesson. As for shooting a snubby at distance, I'm on film hitting steel at 40 yards with a Kimber K6S. Once you find the right ammo, they're highly accurate.
Well I am going to say I am glad you love your Taurus. I have two, well 1... Uh well... My 605 went back for 4 months as the cylinder Chambers were mis-machined. They decided a polished nickel cylinder was the thing. My 66 went back Sept. 15th and is still there... They agreed to replace it and offered a 627 Tracker but it is on backorder with no date estimated for delivery 1 week from 6months. Forcing cone failure. Man up and shoot Rem 125 SJHP Magnum loads. Awesome self-defense load. As for Taurus.. Never EVER again. They do not CARE! While I still carry my 605, I have my replacement S&W M60 w/ 2 1/8" barrel. My Taurus' will be moving on, well at least if I ever get one back!!!
@@PatRMG my 605 was a machining error upon build and undoubtedly a one off... Just if you need customer service all you get is a line of people telling you how sorry they are but actual support is hard to find. And you pay for the "Service"! Once a properly machined cylinder was installed albeit a different finish (stock issue again) it is just fine. Reliability is where I carry it but as far as I am concerned they don't exist... Kind of goes with how I feel I am treated!
I, too, enjoy my Taurus .38 SP snubby as well. It's a nice wheelgun since my hands are small and the grips fit my palm well enough. I replaced the original trigger and hammer springs and the grips to make it more for me.
We bought the Taurus 856 in 38 Special. When w shot it a few times we noticed the cylinder wouldn't always revolve when you pull through slowly. Sent if back to Taurus for repair it returned to us about three months later in the same exact condition. The firearm was sent back to them again by Academy Sport this time around and after waiting about three months with several phone calls to Taurus the firearm was deemed unrepairable! Taurus issued a new revolver and we received it half a year later total wait time from when it was sent in. It was my wife's very first weapon and she was going to carry it for self defense. She does not want another Taurus and does not feel comfortable with carrying this revolver now for her self defense guarding her life. I'm still running it through it's paces but ammo is so much I can't buy any significant amount to run several hundred rounds through it. She stated I'm not carrying that pistol for my self defense. This is only one example of you get why you pay for, and a quality built firearm is very important for carry. Lesson learned
YES! I have a Taurus 5 shot stainless 357 magnum 2 inch that had a full hammer and I bobbed the hammer and carry it in a similar pocket holster in the summer when it is to warm for any other kind of holster outside the pants. I also have a FOBUS paddle holster for cooler months which I can cover up with a outer shirt or jacket. It is very accurate at 15 yards!
The grips literally take it to another price point. I've seen SHOT show coverage with what appears to be factory offerings of VZ on Taurus revolvers. Not completely sure yet though.
I'm glad to see another good review for Taurus. You hit a home run with that VZ grip. It really looks sharp on that gun. I have found a number of good reviews for their guns. They seem to make a quality product. Good video and great presentation!
Thanks for watching, Michael! I really like the look of the VZ. Took a little work to take some of the abrasiveness out of the material, but I'm happy with it.
Taurus 605 is a great carry gun! I have carried on in a pocket holster for years with a speed strip of 6 rounds for backup ammo in another pocked. At 15 yards or less you can't beat it. it will even do well at 25 yards in the right hands!
I pocket carry a S&W 637 Airweight down here in Africa Hot south Texas. I took some extra leather I used to make a knife scabard, turned it smooth side inside and rough side out and hand stitched a pocket holster. It stays in place. Had I known about that Allen pocket holster, well would have saved me some time. A good +P 38spl is fine for snub guns. I use Hornady soft lead (12 on the hardness scale) 158gr HP bullets and load my own old FBI loads. At about 850fps they will mushroom very nicely. If go to town, I do get out the G19 and an extra mag. Yes, you spent a lot less than I did, and you have a perfectly fine defensive tool.
Ok you got me excited about the 3 inch 856 revolver. I called Taurus customer service. I waited on hold for 45 minutes to find out that the rep knew nothing about it, not even when it was going to come out. Needless to say I will pass on any manufacturer that has terrible customer service. They are not a quality customer service oriented company. If you are interested in purchasing any Taurus product do yourself a favor and call their customer support number first. It speaks volume beyond any glowing recommendations to their products Loved the video just not the company. Too bad they lost my business.
To be fair, there has been no date set for the 3 inch Defender. It was released at SHOT in January. I'd imagine that customer service isn't ready to answer questions that the media department hasn't informed them of yet.
G2C, PT-92, PT-1911,608,856, and finally the 65 are all guns I own with a minimum of 1,000 rounds through each. The only problem I’ve had was the rear sight screw coming out of the G2C. Even though I also own a Glock 19 and S&W handguns, my Taurus handguns have proven just as reliable with normal usage and preventative maintenance.
Agreed. My last Taurus M66 video came off without a hitch. Then, I did a Colt King Cobra video and the cylinder release was stuck. For $400 more, you'd expect the Colt to hang with a Taurus.
I love mine, it's got several hundred rounds through it. I like taking it to the woods and on the water, and its taken alot of abuse. I'm talking fell into a dirty sandy Florida river, got mud all over it and washed out with creek water, and i actually took a decent hog with it while deer hunting and wanted to try it out, and 2 coyotes on another occasion. Only downside for me is the matte stainless finish is kinda easy to scratch it seems. But again I put this thing through hell and I've been happy with it so far. I did do a trigger job to make it smoother DA though
Just ordered one and getting the same grips, yeah it don't cost $600-$700 but shoots just as good as a Smith&Wesson IMO.. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a gun for self defense, Unless your a gun snob or just collect high priced guns just to show off, seems people forgot what guns are truly for..
Like others I have many carry options and I do switch it up pretty regularly. However, in my collection I have a Taurus M85 Ultra-Lite that I got back in 1997, its a great little gun and mine almost saw action one night back 4 yrs ago when 2 thugs were talking out their plan on robbing me, girlfriend and her son on the streets of St Augustine, Florida. Like in Star Wars "These are not the droids your looking for" they spoke out their criminal intentions and then talked themselves out of it completely. My girlfriend looked at me in amazement after the walked away, meanwhile my hand was on my Taurus the whole time, low back carry. Why did they walk off, God sent them on their way. I live a very clean life, I pray hours per day, meditate and I do spiritual healing work as life purpose and when a higher power is watching over you he can move anything from your path. I trust in God and I trust that my Taurus would have worked if it needed to be employed and I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot to protect those with me.
Have had a little blued steel bobbed hammer Taurus 85 for almost 20 years now. Over the years it slid into being one of my favorite handguns and became the "Always Gun". Multiple thousands of rounds later and multiple bounces off the concrete later, it is as accurate and reliable as ever. I recently put Crimson Trace laser grips on it and it seems likely the little Taurus will still be on me 20 years from now.
I've had my 605 for years and years. I love that little mutha. I also have a 7rd Taurus 66 stainless 4" that I love as well. Both guns look nice but the 66 is beautiful.
Likewise I have been very impressed with the Taurus revolvers. I have been consider the new 3 inch version (when they come out). Who doesn't love a bargain?
I've been impressed with the Taurus so far. I have several other revolvers from the big brands, but this one has shown me a good value and I can't argue with that!
I’m also looking forward to the new 856 Defender in 3” barrel. I carry my 85UL nearly everyday. Once and a while I’ll carry a pocket 380 to mix it up but the little snubbie is great. I really like the concept of the 605. Carry 38’s most days but if I want to I can add 357 for hiking or camping.
I have a California Highway Patrol 357 mag with a 4 " barrel that I bought in the late 60's. The bang will make you walk around deaf for a few hours. Shoot 38 spl's plus p for ear comfort.
357 mag is the "driest" sound I've ever heard. I fired a 4 inch Smith 681 without hearing protection at a dog that mauled the neighbor lady. Threshold hearing for hours.
My 605 started out as the mindset that it's garbage but it will work for testing. It proved me wrong, it's been a nice little revolver. There's a few quirks but overall not bad. I also use that Desantis pocket holster, I also like to use a leather Desantis belt holster as well. I know how that original grip is, in my first video with it I mentioned that, just feels like cutting into the skin. I opted for the Hogue Monogrip and like it.
I thought about trying the Hogue. Just skipped it and went to G10. It pulls from the pocket without the grabbing from the rubber grip. Heck, I even got ceiling paint on the grip and scraped it off with a pocket knife. A big ole glob fell straight into the pocket.
I just bought a 605 and i very happy to watch your video after the purchase and see it was a good choice. Thank you and i just subscribe to your channel because your reviews are very impressive. Great job.
I’m not a fan of Taurus at all. However I do now own a G3c and it’s great and watching your video I bought an 856 stainless and did a gorgeous brushed finish and added the very same grips. I admit I love it. I haven’t bobbed the hammer yet. But I am thinking about it. I ordered a size OO Allen holster but it didn’t work sadly.
I'm glad you're enjoying your 856! As for the Allen 00, I've heard that from a couple folks. It must be something to do with the larger 6 round cylinder.
Picked one up, factory bobbed hammer and barrel porting in high polish stainless steel and added a Hogue grip. I too prefer Federal Micro HST 38 Special+P.
My edc for the last 6 years has been a Taurus 85 ul. With hogue grips. I absolutely love it. This revolver is well made and comfortable to carry. I use an Allen pocket holster. I load standard .38 special jacketed ball ammo. ( I loved your emotional support chicken posse...)
@@sexybeast6567 Everything is well here. The only problem that we have is with panic buying. Everyone has jumped the gun and bought all the toilet paper. I wish people realized that toilet paper can't be eaten, or drank and is a horrible survival supply.
@@PatRMG Roger that. Nothing to wipe if there isn't anything to eat... Same out here, the store shelves are empty. I have a Taurus Judge chambered in 2 and 1/2 inch 410 and 45lc I love the gun is double action only what does spare time are similar to the one on your gun they're nice guns for the price
Was planning on buying this revolver and came across your channel, love your videos. Great content. Came from your first 605 video. You’ve earned a new subscriber.
@@PatRMGended up buying this beautiful weapon and I love it. Got the VZ grips as well in black/gray. What grit sandpaper would you recommend for the grip? That hotspot with the .357 rounds got me too 🤣
I have had a Taurus 605 in a blued finish for years (a little worn now) - it is the only revolver I own (and I own a lot of guns) and carry when the situation dictates (very, very concealable). If I remember correctly, I paid $279.00 for it brand new. I know that Taurus has a bad reputation for QC, but the Taurus 605 I possess has been worth all $279.00 I spent to aquire it. To each their own.
@@PatRMG I will never give it up. Best 279 bucks I have ever spent. If I carry it, I depend my life on it, and I can say with confidence I can trust my life and well being to my Taurus 605 when I do so. I have carried concealed pistols for 15 years (since I was 21).
I have one as well I love mine can’t beat the price and I agree with everything except for bobbing the hammer I actually picked up a holster from a yard sale and bought the gun for it the best little gun I ever bought and have no worries about it
I bought one of these a while back. Loaded it closed the cylinder and had to get a rubber mallet to open it. Never even fired it. Got the micrometer and measured the out the problems loaded the rims of the cartridges jam the cylinder. I went back to my Ruger LCR.
Pat RMG I did not I measured the cylinder and the space it sit in locked it needed about 25/1000 remove from the barrel end. I didn’t trust it to protect me if needed.
You ought to act like you like that little pistol just a little bit more! You sold me on looking into one for sure. Excellent video with enough humor to make it real.
I like your free range chickens...videos also! Just ordered my Taurus 605 and should be picking it up in a few days. Slims pickings nowadays with what is going on, and ammo shortages are real, but I can get a box from my neighbor across the street! Like your humor! Subscribed as well.
Good review! I also own an M605, and frankly love it. No mods, but I did have to send it back almost immediately for a cylinder carry-up problem (welcome to Taurus). However, they did quickly make it right and it's been flawless ever since. I shoot both .38 Sp and .357 Mag (also love HSTs, though I am still working through all my older Hydrashok stock). Good comment about only being out $300 should the gun be confiscated. That's actually the reason I didn't spring for a Smith.
I’ve owned two of these and one Smith and Wesson that was the same size. I will say that the both Tauruses were better, not just better for the money. The finish on my Smith and Wesson worn from carrying IWB. Also, the ejection rod on the Smith and Wesson is exposed, whereas the Tauruses were covered. That was my personal experience though, but I am no brand snob.
I've been rotating this Taurus 605 and a stainless model 60 Smith lately. The finish is standing up well on both. You do have a good point about the full underlug though. I like that.
If you still looking for a 357 round. Speer Gold Dot JHP 135 grain stand pressure. Short barrel. Lucky Gunner had an average of 5 shot of 13" in gel, and 5 shot average of 1069 fps out of a 2" barrel, Kimber K6s
Taurus handguns get a bad rap. I own several handguns but my home defense weapon is a Taurus .38 special model 85. Been protecting us for over 25 years.
Pat That makes so much sense about the holster. You are aware of the trigger pull and break distance on a SCCY CPX-2 right? I would NEVER carry that just loose in my pocket. There are safety protocols that should never be broken. I am happy to see you and Rusty The Main Man uploading some of the best safety information around today. Sometimes we all need reminded. Great Video! #UNITY
I absolutely love my 605. I bought a different grip as well but haven't brought myself to bob the hammer yet. Super awesome gun and very easy to conceal.
Thank you for making a video about one of my favorite guns. I have two of these, one in 38 and one in 9. My two cents here is that I really like the factory grips and considering the small size I think they are the most ergonomic ones but you put a new interesting angle on this subject. Second thing is that I always wanted to polish one of my guns and was wondering if it's possible, you are showing yours but I can't see any difference due to I guess video limitations. Please elaborate on this subject if you can. Thank you.
I'm getting the 856 for pocket carry. I've been carrying for years now and I just don't like wearing an iwb holster. I've kept an lcp2 in my pocket up until now. Can't wait to get it in and do some shooting.
For the last 2 years my every day carry has been a Springfield Mod 2 9mm. I have never owned a revolver or a small gun. If I bought this taurus .357 would it be a hard transition and would it be as good as my Mod 2 for personal protection ?
That's a tough recommendation to make. Lower capacity, heavier double action trigger pull, and a couple other considerations. I've been carrying a revolver heavily because the trigger doesn't bother me and I'm pretty decent at sending lead downrange with it. It would depend on your comfort with the revolver vs the Mod 2.
Jack beavers I currently EDC a sig P238 Legion but carried snub nose Taurus and S&W for years. Most of the time it was the 5 shot Taurus Titanium .38 special or the S&W .38 snubby. The .357’s in either Taurus or S&W are too heavy for me for EDC because it makes my pants constantly sag on the one side and I am always adjusting them. Additionally, if you buy the lightweight .357’s the recoil on the rounds is just atrocious, which means getting the second shot on target is too slow. The snub nose .38 revolvers with +P 125 grain to 130 grain ammo has good results and you can carry the revolver all day long and not notice. They conceal very well; Last year I was at a housing eviction where a tough young hillbilly deadbeat was being arrested by the State Police for a number of charges and I was standing less than 5 feet from the officer while he was cuffing the suspect. I was carrying the S&W airweight .38 snub in appendix carry and the officer never knew I had it. He told me to move from behind him and I quietly told him OK but I was on his side (trying to talk low enough that the deadbeat’s 2 buddies didn’t hear me). I moved a couple of feet so I could still watch the two buddies because I figured they were contemplating helping their friend. Fortunately police back up arrived and everything settled down and went OK. But my point is that the .38 snub conceals very well. You can’t go wrong with a snub.
I am making that transition this week from XD9 service model to the Taurus 605 just makes more sense in the Florida weather to carry smaller in the summer and I wanted something that was lighter to take fishing with me in kayak.
If a semi doesn't go bang, it is out of the fight....if a revolver doesn't ...you just pull the trigger again. I'd recommend a 38 , the 357 are considerably heavier for carry. 38 special is pretty equiv to a 9mm , and in a scandi frame get as light as about 11 oz . Especially if you remove the totally unneeded giganto sissy grips and replace it with classic s&w detective style lightweight grips . Ppl act like these are 500 mags with these outrageous grips lol.
Can't believe I'm gonna try to say this but here goes...
That's a good looking Tau...good look...good looking Taur... Taurus...there I said it. 😆
🤣
Even I'll say the revolvers look good.

Well said William. Even a slingshot with a nice rock put in your face is not a good feeling.
I have the 856 myself, and the G3 also. Both are good little guns. I actually use a Hi-Point for home defense. It's the 45 JHP model. I love it to death.
Any issues out the box ? Like did u lube anything or just went out to range ? Do u recommend the ultra lite ,?

I wish mine was electric blue! I'm trying to picture how cool that looks. Thanks for your comment!
I have always owned Taurus going back to the 80's. I have never had any problems. I now own a Taurus Raging Judge Magnum and an Taurus 856. Absolutely love them both! Many rounds down range, not a problem.Great value in any Taurus from my experience!
Thanks for sharing!
I have two 605's with nitride finish and a 65 brushed stainless all in .357 mag. Wouldn't trade them for anything.
I've been carrying a Taurus 856 way more often for about a yr now. Its easier to conceal and more comfortable than my P229.
At that moment, any gun would have been worth twice the price! Glad she walked away from that one.
Glad she had a proper rape whistle
I have 2 Taurus a .380 and a 38spl. Both are great guns. I’m not trashing Taurus I just got a gun that they passed QC how I don’t know but I still like Taurus.
In Colorado she would have to shoot em or go to prison
@Von Fields If you draw without firing its brandishing and menacing. The law presumes if you didnt have to fire, you didnt have to draw.
KSP carried the Remington 125 gr. SJHP in 357. My Chief said it was a one shot stop for them out of a 4" Smith.
I'm retired now.
You do get more velocity with the 357 in a snub but the cost in recoil and control gives the 38 plus p the edge. Its a better balanced package
@@johnrhodes9533 Taurus website says plus p rated for the 856
@@johnrhodes9533 yes...my owners manual for the 856 says u can use +p
Taurus 605, the little engine that could.
Remember, for a time Taurus and Smith & Wesson were owned by the same entity and during those years they shared revolver technology which benefitted Taurus immensely.
I've recently researched that. Neat stuff!
Taurus handled the heat treating for S and W.
Correct, they were sister company's at one time
It benefitted S&W as well. It allowed S&W a foot-hold in South America.
I’ve carried a 605 with one speed loader for a couple years, so easy to conceal and I’ve never worried about being out gunned.
If you're confident in your shooting abilities, yes. You'll feel fine with that combo. I feel that way.
Other than that I am more than happy and trust that 5 rounds of .357 magnum will be plenty for most any situation I come across while out and about
@switchtr3 @B Sabes what is your carry ammo?
I've been front pants pocket Conceal Carrying a Tauras Snub Nose .44 Special Ultra Lite (22oz's) for about eight years now. Same knockdown force as a 1911 .45
When walking near questionable people / situations I have my right hand in my front pants pocket on my .44, I can have the gun drawn in a nanosecond.
Comfortable and convenient. 😁

Sweet little package! I’ve carried a 5 shot snub for almost 30 years. Never leave home without it
For pure comfort, it can't be beat.
Taurus has stepped up their game lately!
I'm impressed for sure.
They're uping their game for sure. Impressed with their G2C. It's my EDC now.
I love Taurus firearms. People seem to forget that a few decades ago Taurus manufactured parts for Smith and Wesson
I've heard that before. I need to look into it.
M856, G10 grips, HST Micro and an economical sticky holster, that's what's in my pocket, and has been for some time.
And this is something that I wish I had learned some time ago. Carry magic!
Taurus 856 is awesome. Good first gun!
I swore off revolvers over 20 years ago but this video has made me reconsider my current relationship with my Glock. That is a nice little set up and you can never have enough guns. Thank you.
Come on over to the wheelgun side! You're welcome here!
I carried my Colt Python for 2 decades until i went & got old where a 4" barrell Python became uncomfortable, plus with the value of clean Pythons skyrocketing i picked up a 605 & love it .
The 605 is surprisingly good.

My second favorite gun and the one most often carried is my 605. I have a couple of them I rotate with a three inch Chief's Special.

I actually dragged the 27 out the other day. A buddy scolded me. I told him that I've been carrying 40 since 40 was cool.
Two 605s wouldn't be a bad problem to have! Even though I am partial to the CZ P01 myself.
I have had an 85 ultra light since 2003. I fired 300 rounds the first day. It is a good little pistol.

The Hogue rubber grips are great for the 605 and they extend slightly so that your little finger gets a bite which helps with .357 recoil

I had a Taurus 66 and I loved the factory rubber grips on it. After I bought a S&W 686+ I traded the 66 to my brother since it's the same gun with a cheaper finish; he loves it too. My son bought a very lightly used 605 today and that's what lead me here.

My 605 is one of my favorite guns to shoot, I carry it a fair amount too.
I've started carrying this one exclusively. I really like the 605.
Ouch! I hate to hear your bad luck. I'll make a video showing the failure of this 605 if that day comes. Right now, it's unicorns and rainbows!
@@PatRMG my 605 was a machining error upon build and undoubtedly a one off... Just if you need customer service all you get is a line of people telling you how sorry they are but actual support is hard to find. And you pay for the "Service"! I, too, enjoy my Taurus .38 SP snubby as well. It's a nice wheelgun since my hands are small and the grips fit my palm well enough. I replaced the original trigger and hammer springs and the grips to make it more for me.
Making it fit you is what it's all about!
I have been carrying one for a few years now and i absolutely love it. It goes everywhere i go. Great video man!
Thanks Gooner!
I haven't bought an OWB holster for the snubby yet. I might have a leather that might fit though.
I like that little Taurus. Those grips make it pop.
The grips literally take it to another price point. I've seen SHOT show coverage with what appears to be factory offerings of VZ on Taurus revolvers. Not completely sure yet though.
I had a poly 605 and never had a problem. Cylinder timing never fouled, never had brass stuck, soooo worth the $235.
I've not had a chance to try the poly. This stainless definitely has me sold though.
I can say the Taurus revolvers I have the model 82 and 85 have been good revolvers. those grips are awesome
VZ did a great job with the grips. I'm impressed.
Just bought one. I love it. Thanks for the video. And also thanks for keeping the clean language. I appreciate that just as much. 👍
Thanks a bunch, Terry!
Snubbies can definitely be accurate 15- 25 yards and beyond. I took a Kimber K6S out to 45 yards on an 8 inch steel.
Great review, Taurus makes some of the most affordable revolvers.
Half the cost of many others!
You want to see shitty customer service? Try smith and wesson. Ive had excellent luck with Taurus, of course ive only had to deal with them once.
Sounds like you've really put yours to work! Thanks for watching!
If it bothers you touch it up with scotch brite! Always worked for me
Just ordered one and getting the same grips, yeah it don't cost $600-$700 but shoots just as good as a Smith&Wesson IMO.. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a gun for self defense, Unless your a gun snob or just collect high priced guns just to show off, seems people forgot what guns are truly for..
I've got expensive revolvers and I've got this one. It's still not as pretty, but it's solid and shoots just fine.
I own two 3" 856 revolvers. If Taurus ever re-releases a 3" 605, I will have one.
I want to try the 3 inch 856 myself.
Absolutely love my 3" 856 Defender. Best shooting 38 I've ever owned
Your country accent and the chickens 🐓 are priceless…great vid
135 grain short barrel Speer Gold Dots work great in this gun.
I really need to make it a note to order those. I've been looking locally for months.
And that's why we carry.
The gun is suitable if your in a tight budget but don't be fooled of the guns superb quality. Well made and accurate 👌
Literally carried it all week again.
@@PatRMG I will confess I frequently carry my Taurus 856 instead of my S&W 442.
You mentioned concrete. That's probably why I like this one so much. I'll keep the wear off my Smith & Wessons and enjoy this one!
Satisfied with every Taurus I've got (more than 1, less than a dozen). Fine shootin' iron for the money.
I've been satisfied with the last few that I've had my hands on. Thanks for watching!
I've had my 605 for years and years. I love that little mutha. I also have a 7rd Taurus 66 stainless 4" that I love as well. Both guns look nice but the 66 is beautiful.
Speaking of other Taurus models, I want to try the 692.
Great job.
Welcome to the channel and congratulations on your new purchase!
605 poly is my favorite gun as well, $315 of love
Nice!
My wife carries a model 85 in 22 mag with a nice trigger job on the revolver. No problems with the revolver and it's about 10 years old
Nice. I've had a couple 85s with no problems.
Nice!
Loved this video so much. I ordered me a 605. Can’t wait for it to arrive
Congrats on your new purchase!
Hahhhahahaaa! The chickens are always hanging around!
@@PatRMG greetings from Coos Bay Oregon. Hoping you and your family stay healthy during this pandemic.
I live on my sailboat full time and I'm getting ready to slip the dock lines and go lay on the anchor for a while. Till I see where this thing goes. I have noticed a strange vibe in the air the last couple of days though, like when a storm is moving in and the temp. Starts dropping rapidly. ( Ex 11 bravo here btw)
Nice revolver Taurus is one of the top revolver guys out there like it or not
I like this one. Not my nicest revolver, but it's solid.
I have a Taurus Judge chambered in 2 and 1/2 inch 410 and 45lc I love the gun is double action only what does spare time are similar to the one on your gun they're nice guns for the price
@@PatRMG sorry for my grammar being a little messed up LOL but my judge is double action only the hammer is similar to the one on your firearm
I finally took the Dremel to my 85 Ultra-lite. It looks awesome! Thanks for the inspiration.
Enjoy it!
The glock joke did it for me. Subscribed! 😂 I about fell out of my chair.
Hhahhahahaaa! Glad you liked it!
Was planning on buying this revolver and came across your channel, love your videos. Great content. Came from your first 605 video. You’ve earned a new subscriber.
Welcome to the channel!
@@PatRMGended up buying this beautiful weapon and I love it. Got the VZ grips as well in black/gray. What grit sandpaper would you recommend for the grip? That hotspot with the .357 rounds got me too 🤣
Love 605 toro. I feel like you are 100% missing out on a trigger job. $10-18 the very best upgrade for 605’s. Never failed
I just purchashed the Black one from Dunham's just waiting for it to arrive. On sale for 279 right now.
Awesomeness! You should like it.
I think the 605 is rock and roll wound up in a wheelgun. I love mine.
@@PatRMG I will never give it up.
Best 279 bucks I have ever spent.
If I carry it, I depend my life on it, and I can say with confidence I can trust my life and well being to my Taurus 605 when I do so. I have carried concealed pistols for 15 years (since I was 21).
I have one as well I love mine can’t beat the price and I agree with everything except for bobbing the hammer I actually picked up a holster from a yard sale and bought the gun for it the best little gun I ever bought and have no worries about it
Bobbing the hammer was a personal preference. Glad you're enjoying your 605!
I bought one of these a while back. Loaded it closed the cylinder and had to get a rubber mallet to open it. Never even fired it. Got the micrometer and measured the out the problems loaded the rims of the cartridges jam the cylinder. I went back to my Ruger LCR.
Did you try different ammo? Send it back?
Pat RMG I did not I measured the cylinder and the space it sit in locked it needed about 25/1000 remove from the barrel end. I didn’t trust it to protect me if needed.
You ought to act like you like that little pistol just a little bit more! You sold me on looking into one for sure. Excellent video with enough humor to make it real.
I like to have fun. Thanks for watching!
I own a Taurus 38 very similar to the gun you have, and it is a great little gun. Never failed to shoot. I love mine.
Rock and roll, Greg!
That thing is lookin' great !! Great idea sanding the grips... I have the model 85 in .38 and its a cool little piece.
Yeah, the G10 has the ability to be sanded. Knock down the hot spots and they're alright.
I like your free range chickens...videos also! Just ordered my Taurus 605 and should be picking it up in a few days. Slims pickings nowadays with what is going on, and ammo shortages are real, but I can get a box from my neighbor across the street! Like your humor! Subscribed as well.
Welcome to the channel and congrats on your 605! I hope that it serves you well!
Nice looking setup there. 100 % on the 38+P they'll do the job.
Thanks Charles!!
The Speer has come across my radar. I'll grab some and revisit this one day.
"...thinks my kids are going to open the vault and sell it all for half price." LOL, LOL, lol, lol, cough, lol.
Glad you enjoyed the joke!😁
I can relate.
The best review I've seen on the 605 yet. For the price you can't beat them
Thanks Jeff! They're solid for the money for sure!
That thing looks like it be a lot of fun to carry,
Super comfortable. I don't feel outgunned either.
I carry the t85, always liked it. I replaced the grip with one I could fit my hole had on it. I love it
Taurus handguns get a bad rap. I own several handguns but my home defense weapon is a Taurus .38 special model 85. Been protecting us for over 25 years.
If a person is confident in the gun's performance and his own shooting abilities, brand name doesn't matter. A Taurus will get the job done.
I have the same gun, purchased in 1986. Never had a problem with it.
Never will own a Taurus! Glad I bought my 10 S&W’s! Good luck!
I own several Smiths, 3 of them being Performance Center. There's nothing wrong with a Taurus.
The problem with Taurus is it’s not near as good as a S&W. I just don’t see any reason to own a Taurus when S&W’s are available.
Bought the wife a 856 blue/silver. She loves it. Great gun and $275 new
Pure awesomeness! Mine is still proudly getting carried!
#UNITY
Thanks Scott! A good holster is the best safety a man can have.
@@PatRMG You are so right. I hate to hear people at a gun store saying I can't afford a holster after buying the gun and ammo. I mean come on!
I absolutely love my 605. I bought a different grip as well but haven't brought myself to bob the hammer yet. Super awesome gun and very easy to conceal.
I'm still carrying my 605 extensively.
Thank you.
This is the video where I showed the refinish. Link attached. th-cam.com/video/ACtLcGq5Y1c/w-d-xo.html
I just bought my wife a Taurus 856 stainless, I’m looking forward to putting some rounds through it!
I've the same weapon in 38+p its a great carry weapon i carry it with federal hollow point ammo. Its also a 6 shot weapon.
Awww man, mine is only a 5 shot... Good stuff!
Nice bobbing of the hammer! No snag and truly defensive! I left a little bit of my hammer on my 637-2. Sometimes I like shooting single action.
