I was born in July 1959.....so, I love documentaries & movies, like this. My Finnish grandparents retired to St. Pete in 1969.....we always went to Fort Desoto Park/Beach....the former of the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge.....was....well...intimidating for a young kid....lol. Ahhh, the memories! I miss those days.
The narrator's accent is quite archaic. People don't sound like that these days! But what I really miss is the clear, well-spoken American English. Now it's 'Murrican 😢
As much as I honestly love them, it's hard not to cringe through some of these old travel videos, watching them in 2021. Surreal. I counted exactly one ACTUAL person of color in this one (the valet), and I'm pretty sure he appeared in two different scenes! Jim Crow was clearly alive and well in FL in 1955 😳
Who tanned in the nude to have a skin color about the same as a native! Quite a feat in those days cause they didn't have places *anywhere* where you could legally do that.

Most stations aired this in black and white.
Thankyou
Did that ship hit the old skyway bridge?
Yes, it did, on a rainy May 9, 1980, killing 35 people.
1956 was not a year for accurate detail. Just a short to attract Tourists. The accuracy of the dress could be improved on as well.
"MLMV?" It's "MCMLV" Who ever produced this flick should've learned about roman numerals and how to write them properly.
I thought the same thing but brushed it off. Like I was wrong. The damn bridge fell down anyways
MCMLVI.
Bridge built in 1956, featurette produced in 1955. 😝
@@edwardmiessner6502 Nope, September 1954, demolished in 1992

Those natives looked suspiciously caucasian.
During the black face era!

The producer was on a strict budget
