The Whitworth is fine. It's the best basegame 40 tonner, other than the medium laser boat version of the Vulcan

I’ve never understood the Whitworth hate. It’s only bad if you try to make it something it isn’t. I’m talking about the LRM-10 version here. Use it like you would a panther… a budget Fire support mech. The BV savings can be used to upgrade another of your mechs.

      1) love panthers! 2) yeah it gets a lot of hate, I think from lore rather than experience. Yep cheaper than a trebuchet, I think, but later eras its questionable

@@battletopia Whitworth is around 200 BV cheaper than a Trebuchet. Same lasers, jumping as an advantage, but slower and less missiles. I think you bring the Trebuchet when you're lacking in long range options in your lance and/or your lance is overall faster and you need something that can keep up. And you bring the Whitworth to act in concert with other long-range strikers (it's great backup to a Griffin or Vindicator for example).

The Withworth is bad because its 40 tons. All 40 ton mechs, and all but 2 60 ton mechs are as well. Same for all but 2 80 tonners. Those breakover points are just mathematically bad.

In the Battletech game, the Whitworth is my favorite missile boat even over the Trebuchet. It's basically like a slightly smaller Archer which is great to have early on in the game.

The Whitworth is a good design within a narrow scope. If it can hold open the range you can get good with it.

Thanks for the listen and love the Crescent Hawks! I was going to ask how narrow but far, far away is pretty definitive :-)

Just a minor critique, you should put up a picture of the mech. Can't expect everyone to go to Sarna to see what mech you're talking about. Great video and can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the listen and welcome to the channel.
Good point and I tried. I usually do but there is no good art for the Whitworth. The poor machine hasn’t been included in any game and except some 80s looking art there’s a new pic for the kickstarter. But that’s it, I asked everywhere and none had any 🤷‍♂️. I was very surprised by that. I’ll figure something for future vids if no good art though.

Thanks for the listen dude! And that's why I love this game, everyone has favourites and different experiences. I have a force with a couple of clints in it (later variants are better though). I am going to run a whitwirth soon so I can have a proper opinion

The initial reading still irks me as much as the Sarna page for this did. The DCMS didn't attack Amaris troops ever, but their govt did support Amaris with money and materials. So them running from DCMS troops makes no sense.
