I'm ex para ..4 para to be exact.served 9 years ages 21 til 29. I'm 31 this year.. My late father was an ex fleet air arm officer.. My inspiration. I saw action in Afghanistan..the Royal tournament means a lot to my family... Salute to the airborne division and the airey fairy crew xxxxx
I went to see this as my Father and his crew from RAF Wittering did the pyrotechnics for the biggest show of the year. To many this is irrelevant, to me I'm proud of my Father doing this.
The Royal Tournament sadly missed, what a wonderful show it always was from all three services, and a recruiting tool supreme. Now there are not enough members of the RN, RM, Army and RAF to put on such a spectacular without taking everyone off the front lines, and no more Earls Court either.
I was one of the girls climbing the mast was on the lower yard arm WAEM Izzy Clark we were from HMS Daedalus, the girl/guys dancing the hornpipe were from HMScSultan
As an ex Bootneck i can say that i grew up going to these tournaments.. my father was musical conductor during this.. God bless the services ...
Your never an ex bootneck Royal your always one PMPT👍
I did button boy a couple of times in the 1984 team. I can't believe I managed it now lol. Thanks for posting this. It brings back memories.
You must have huge balls.
I was in the Display Team in 1981 - great memories 🙂

As well you should be! It's not irrelevant at all, it's part of history and it's brilliant.
These lads & girls are very brave. I could never have done this & I was a roofer back in my youth. 🇬🇧👍
this brings back memories, I was No 3 top yardarm right at the end, great laugh.
I was working there that year, as an SAC. Did 3 or 4 of them, great memories
Peace

I was on there somewhere but not sure what position that night, prob somewhere near you ZKev1 !
Only our navy can do fight modern warfare and dance a hornpipe like there forefathers over 200 years ago at the same time
139 feet high when i was at Ganges and the lightening conductor you held on with your knees was only 18 inches. the button was 11 inches in diameter,
Still say the HMS Ganges mast manning was the best. but then I am biased 😀😀
I am charmed with the music. In the middle they play "Ay fond kill and then we part." !?!!
kiss surely?
i'd say i remembered this RT .. but the guest nights in the Guzz Field Gunners Mess means i don't 🤣😂
If I had been the button boy, I'd be coming down with brown pants.
Picked up “Music of the Royal Tournament” for only £2.99!

@parrot85 you should check out the lads from Ganges and the button boy running up the mast! Fk me, the word terrifying doesnt come close!
HMS GANGES TO BE HONEST
Can't have this anymore. Can't be proud of our armed services. Done on purpose if you ask me.
Watch the Indian girl sea cadets do the hornpipe, much better than this!
