The actual Rovers Return pub on the exterior street was just a façade, the interior used for filming was a studio set in a separate building not accessible as part of the tour. The pub where you could actually go in for a drink, was a replica, although they did indeed serve actual beer. After the tour closed, it was used as a waiting room for studio audiences.
