  • NBA star Kevin Love’s candid discussion of his anxiety attacks inspired TODAY’s Carson Daly to reveal his struggle with generalized anxiety disorder and how he copes with it: “I may be a little anxious, but I know I’m going to be OK.” Psychotherapist Thomas Kersting says anxiety is “relatively normal,” but if it interferes with your functioning, you should seek professional help.

Anxiety is NO Joke. Until you suffer from it you have no idea. I had severe Anxiety almost everyday for a year like 5 years ago. I was on 2 different medications. I wasn't able to sleep some nights. Also my body was so weak I remember walking through the grocery store etc feeling like I was going to Collapse. It was the craziest/Scariest feeling. Luckily it all stopped as I started doing little things to help like thinking positive...working out..eating better. Going to church etc. It was the scariest time of my life. I broke down and cried soo many times because I felt helpless and was scared when I had Panic attacks.

I've had it all my life on and off, but it never really goes away, I'm always aware it could come on any time which constantly gets in the way of every day things, it got worse 2 years ago especially a week after my auntie past away I had a huge panic attack at work, my whole body felt weak, especially around my shoulders and chest, I felt like I was having a breakdown and a heart attack, 2 yrs on with medication i feel just ok. But on a daily basis I always feel short of breath, it's like I'm shallow breathing , i feel I'm fighting it rather than enjoying life, I used to be positive, laugh, smile and be confident, not so much now, I've almost closed myself off from friends and family, social life.. I'm at my happiest and safest when i go to bed.

It sounds like he's talking about my anxiety. Everyone always thinks it's just a synonym for stress but it's so much more than that. There have been times when I'm sitting on the couch, shopping or driving a car and I'll have a massive panic attack. At least in my experience a panic attack often feels like I'm on the edge of death and I'm going to stop breathing. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

Mischief Managed one thing that majorly helped me is just let the anxiety come. Feel it and when you stop resisting it it passes so much quicker. And with time it won't have control over you cuz your not feeding it. Take away the power. And I know it sucks and it's scary but just try to observe it and not feed into it. This has helped me immensely!

Yes everyone’s case is different. To rid yourself of the fear of having a panic attack you literally have to welcome one on. Do whatever causes you panic but do it, knowing and accepting that you will have a panic attack. I just started suffering with anxiety atleast 2 months ago. It’s crazy because I’m 20 and I’ve never felt or had these kinds of symptoms before. It takes control of my body and my everyday life. It’s scary and i always prayed to god will this ever stop. Just seeing some of these comments and this amazing story really lets me know that I’m not alone and we all will get through this! If anybody has tips, please feel free to let us know!

I wish I could meet Carson Daily. I was so diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. It is so inspiring hearing how transparent he is about his anxiety. I had it since I was six years old. I too lost my dad when I was six.

Thank you Carson! I am so surprised to hear the "positive" side of anxiety as well, and not ignoring all of it. It does make me a better partner, I am very emotionally aware and present in a way that is helpful at times, but, can also be overwhelming in public situations. Ive never heard someone else talk about the "positive" side to anxiety. Thank you for sharing your story, take care

Omg it could literally be my story. I am still so driven and somewhat successful but I have to push myself through this anxious feeling every single day! Some days much worse than others. It has manifested in many scary ways. I also feel so sensitive and there are many beautiful flip sides to it. Wow. This really spoke to me, Carson!

That's exactly how I am, I was born that way, I can remember when I had my first attack and I had no idea what it was. When I moved to Canada, it happened again and that's when I was diagnosed with anxiety and now it all made sense why I was feeling like this all my life. I have learnt to embrace it, I still get scared, I get nervous, I am always thinking something is going to happen, doom and gloom. I am on meds for it. Music is my best friend, it relaxes me and when I hear certain songs I get emotional. So I know I will be ok. It is something that I am living with and like I said I know I am gonna be ok. God bless you all who have this sickness.

Glad that you found this video helpful. Have you thought about the possible nutritional causes for anxiety? They include: hormone imbalances, caffeine consumption, food sensitivities, and nutritional deficiencies (like with magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B6, serine, choline, copper, chromium, selenium, and zinc),

Hi Carson, I was diagnosed in my late 20’s with anxiety and depression. As most people panic attacks surprise me. I was teaching a martial arts class and thought I was having a heart attack. That was my first anxiety attack and of corse I at that time had never heard of panic attacks. I sought help and was put on medication and it was to much. Over the years I’ve been able to have the dose lowered to a tiny dose when needed. It was a social problem that nobody was talking about and I hid it from everyone. Now in my late 50’s everyone is talking about it which for me was liberating. Watching you talking about it on the Today show gave me courage to talk about it with my family so thank you for putting out the message that it’s ok to have that conversation. Warmest regards Dave

Thank you Carson for sharing your story. I have anxiety as well...I am learning to walk through the fear...or not for that moment in time. It has been with me since I was young I drank for courage. I now have 28 years sober and have learned techniques to first, not drink, one day at a time , and to prioritize what is important in my life. You touched my heart. God Bless You !!!

Carson , I’m so glad to see you talk about this . I’m a yoga teacher that healed myself from Crohn’s disease and other physical issues. Mindfulness through breathing and learning to be a “Technician “ to your computer with a soul . I have been in remission for about 15 years . I wonder if you ever had the chance to grieve your dad . I’m here to help if you need guidance 🙏🏼
