      @Average Joe78 You take a bowl, set it in the ground so it's lip is nearly flush with the ground, and put in a couple of inches of beer. The slugs go in and don't seem to be able to get out. I don't know if the alcohol kills them or they just drown, I've never watched it but it does work. I often feed the live slugs to turtles, who are very fond of slugs. A house I once lived in had a goldfish pond near my garden the turtles from the pond would go into the garden and hunt slugs.

    I didn't realize N. America had native snails. I was under the impression they came over during the gold rush with a Frenchmen

    Rats love to eat snails. I find snail shells in my bait stations all the time. I've used contrac blox, ditrac blox, and final blox.

    Where I live, snails and slugs could spell death for someone if they didn’t wash their fruits/vegetables all the way through. They carry a parasite that will slowly eat a human’s brain and nervous system over time.
    My grandmother is in the hospital right now fighting through it. If we kept her at home any sooner she probably wouldn’t have made it.
    She’s doing well now, thankfully.

    My line with slugs is stay in or around the compost heaps and I won't cut you in half on evening slug hunts. A few years of natural selection seems to be working.

    From the looks of things the snails might have gone into the trap to get into the shade, a control test would be in order; a test without any bait.

    I don't know if someone said this one yet but Beer kills snails. Lay out a bowl of beer. Snails get drunk. Snails drown in beer.
    Or this would be the most macabre beer commercial ever. I just remember it off of TV years ago.

    I find the most effective method to go out after sunset when it has been raining, armed with a flashlight, rubber gloves, and a bucke with a bit of soapy water. A hundred slugs in 15 minutes. The soap prevents them from climbing out of the bucket.

    A bowl with beer is enough in my garden to catch the slugs and snails. Here in de netherlands (Europe) we call slugs 'naaktslak'. Literally translated it says 'naked snail'.

    • @QuantumWaltz
      @QuantumWaltz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fascinating; so "slak" is Dutch for snail? It seems like it has a shared etymological origin with the English word "slug." Ever so slightly counter-intuitive, haha
