  • Painting the cab and hood on my 78 GMC 9500 single axle dump truck this spring. This is the first vehicle I've ever painted or done any body work too, not a show quality job but looks good for a working truck. Bed and frame are going to get painted eventually. Truck has a 6-71 2 stroke (238hp) Detroit Diesel and a 5 speed and 2 speed rear.

I like the song, I drove a 1970 International Transtar cabover with a 250 horsepower Cummins it would put about a foot of flame out the stack, you could control the length of the flame by letting off the accelerator. The only thing was you could only see the flame at night a dull orange and lots of smoke

Nice paint job I owned a couple of these over the years how to get rid of them because of California smoke regulations really miss them. The old Detroit's never let me down

Thanks! Doesn't look too bad for what it cost and the amount of body work I did and the truck gets worked, its not a restored show truck yet. Hopefully in another 10 years the body and engine will be sitting on a Peterbilt chassis with a new dump bed behind it. I need to make some shifting and drive by videos and experiment with a new camera, I'll try and post some cold starts and idling videos in the mean time. Thanks for watching!

Interesting to note that my 18.5-ton "Euc" has the same engine. Of course it's top end is only 26 mph. I'm assuming you'll be painting the dump bed soon? BTW: Dave Dudley lived nearby our cabin up in WI.

Haha, yeah the plan was to do some welding on the bed then paint it too, but you know how that goes, it still hasn't happened.
