- To visit El Calafate means to visit the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier! Back in 2006 when I first traveled to Patagonia with my parents we visited the Perito Moreno Glacier and we loved it. It was the first time my parents were seeing a glacier live and to this day one of my parent's favorite things in Argentina.
El Calafate is a town near the edge of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz. It’s mainly known as the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, home to the massive Perito Moreno Glacier, whose ever-shifting icy landscape is popular for hiking and sightseeing. This ice field is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water. The glacier was named after the explorer Francisco Moreno, a pioneer who studied the region in the 19th century and played a major role in defending the territory of Argentina in the conflict surrounding the international border dispute with Chile. Due to its size and accessibility, Perito Moreno is one of the major tourist attractions in southern Patagonia and the rupture of this glacier is considered one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world.
Peter and I had the opportunity to do a Mini Trekking on the glacier with the company "Hielo y Aventura" and it was totally worth it in addition to be an amazing and surreal experience!!!! - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
