Yes you can use snap-view to have TH-cam running in a smaller window and run S-Note to take notes. You can slide either screen to make it bigger once you are working in a note.
You can use the SNote in Snap view which puts the app in a side by side with a current opened application. This is not the same as when you run side by side in desktop view where the applications use half the display. Snap view keeps one app smaller on one side. Still useful when taking notes.
Windows Journal, Mini S Note and S Note come with the tablet. Also the PDF reader and editor is part of the new Windows 8 so it will be included. OneNote you would have to purchase. There is other free applications in the Windows Store that you can use for taking notes as well. I personally like the S Note because it syncs back to my Galaxy Note II phone.
Both are pretty much the same in testing. The Samsung ATIV 500T did clock in a bit faster in the SSD Drive department but not much and most users wouldn't even notice. The Samsung ATIV Tab runs Windows RT and the Samsung ATIV 500T runs full Windows applications.
The thinner of the two stylus is from my Samsung Series 7 Slate tablet. It came with that slate tablet. I also have a stylus from HP tablet that is pretty much the same as the Samsung Series 7 slate. Actually you will be able to see the pointer every time the stylus comes close to the screen. Maybe its the video that doesn't show it. So you cab see the little pointer when stylus is close to the screen. In my testing and using the stylus has very precise.
The S-Note application loads up faster on the Galaxy Note 10.1. Using the application to take notes, they are both pretty much on par. I use the Galaxy Note 10.1 S-Notes more than I do on the ATIV. When I use S-Note on the ATIV is when I am taking some notes from a website as I can have the S-Note application in Snap-view to the side and jot down notes. Works great. So this will depend on your preference using the S-Note application.
This one is the Atom processor. Runs better than the older Atom, as this is the dual core Atom processor. Very snappy for your everyday web browsing, Office suite, edit pictures (nothing complex), as note book to take notes, drawing, email and many more. The ATIV 700T is the Pro version which has the i5 core processor.
This would be tuff question. I use both for work and depends on what I will be doing, both work great for my use. If you plan on running Windows application at school and want to be able to take notes, then you should look at maybe getting the Samsung ATIV 500T or the ATIV 700T. The Galaxy Note 10.1 works perfect for taking notes and if you can get by at school with Android apps, the Galaxy Note 10.1 would be the easiest to travel with.
I am using the S Pen Holder Kit. This was for my Galaxy Note Phone, but works on Wacom digitizers like on the ATIV, Galaxy Note 10.1, Samsung Series 7 Slate and also my HP Tablet. You can search on Amazon for S Pen Holder kit.
I use the stylus daily on the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro. Whether for quick notes or red line Word documents and many other uses. I highly recommend a tablet with a digitizer. Even if you plan not to use at the moment, at least you will have when you needed it. The ATIV 700T has been working great for travel and as a desktop replacement for me.
I also use the Note 10.1, but lately I have been using the ATIV Smart PC. The Atom processor in the ATIV is the newer generation which is a dual core Atom and is very responsive. My Note 10.1 doesn't lag using notes. The is ATIV is great tablet.
If you are going to be doing lite programming, you could possibly use the Samsung ATIV. If you are going to be programming you might want to look at the Samsung Smart PC ATIV 700T. This is basically the same as the one in this video, except a bit heavier and thicker. Not by much though. I have a video of the Samsung Smart PC ATIV 700T. The 700T is a i5 Core which means it will run a bit hotter and battery life is around 5 hours with semi-heavy use.
Hey I have been in the same situation as you. I need a laptop that has a digitizer screen to take notes for class. My budget was about $500. Through several hours of research, I truly believe that this is the best tablet for my specific needs. It allows you to effectively take notes on all parts of the screen even while resting my hand on the screen. I just bought a like new one from ebay for $395. I would start your search there if you want to save some money.Note:I don't work for Samsung
Thanks! Well I haven't tried to load a lot of pages yet. I do have a lot of Notebooks in my daily Samsung series 7 slate tablet that I will sync to test. Also are you referring to having just one Notebook with a lot of pages in that single Notebook? I will try loading a lot of pages to test, in my regular NeNote that I am using now, I must have around 30 Folders with quite a bit of pages inside each. I will check that and post the out come.
I have the Samsung ATIV PC Pro 700T and having the i5 Core makes a lot of difference for all applications. If you are just using basic sketching program the 500T can work, but the 700T does a better job for complex sketching. I have a video of the 700T in my videos as well. What sketch program you plan on using?
Thanks for the wonderful video! Was thinking to get this tablet to replace my iPad. I'm familiar with Window 8 and the compatibility of a Atom core and was wondering if this tablet is physically comfortable to hold to read articles and such on my sofa etc...
Both are great devices. The Android Note has great apps for note taking. Both do a great job at this. The advantage on the ATIV Win 8 is that you have the option to run full Windows applications and since it is running on the new Intel Clover Trail, battery life is just as good as the Android Galaxy Note. In some of my testing on the Samsung 500T ATIV using the battery. I was able to easily get about 10 hours of battery life using it for web browsing, Word, Excel, Email and some videos.
Thanks for the response..initially i thought of getting note 10.1 but this hybrid pc offers more desktop solutions that I need. If the s note n youtube can be running at the same time..it would be great to take down notes while watching the video. Looking forward for your response soon:-)
I agree, I currently sync both my Galaxy Note 10.1 and my Galaxy Note II. Comes in handy. Looking forward for Samsung to add the cloud syncing. I currently have the Smart PC Pro and is much faster, only draw back is the short battery life. Getting around 5:30 hours of battery life. Not bad since it is a iCore processor. On the Samsung Series 7 Slate, I still can get around 5 hours of battery life.
This is the Samsung Smart PC 500T ATIV. The stylus I am using is the S-Pen made for the Galaxy Note II Phone. Works on the Samsung 500T ATIV. Make sure your 500T does have the Wacom digitizer, because there is two versions that didn't have the digitizer. The AT&T 500T and I believe the Canadian version doesn't have the digitizer. If the stylus is not in the bottom of the tablet, you might not have the digitizer.
If you don't mind no digitizer and want to get a good deal. The Lenovo Yoga 13 can be found at great discount. The ATIV Q which I was waiting for as well has been cancelled. I have tested the Sony Duo 13, great device by the way, very light weight, great screen but the i5 performed very close to the Lenovo Yoga i7 core. Yes if you bench mark both the Sony Duo 13 i5 it will perform a bit faster. Something you might not notice much.
I'm actually using the S-Pen Holder kit, which was from my Galaxy Note. Works great for my Samsung tablets, Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 and Surface Pro tablet.
I normally use Microsoft Office for work so I use OneNote quite a bit. I haven't personally tried the Metro app of OneNote, but I a have read some reviews that it has some lag when you use the free metro app of OneNote. I haven't tried it, so can't say if it does. I will give it a try.
Great video Hector , thank you. For "daily note taking" use , which one do you prefer , the galaxy note 10.1 or ativ smart pc ? I know the attiv is a full windows 8 pc , but i can live without that. Any comparison - thoughts about display , clarity , responsiveness - lag and general feeling you have about them , will be much appreciated!
Hey and thanks again for yet another useful video :) What did you say the name of the samsung stylus with eraser was that you are using in this video? It looks awesome and I would like to purchase one somewhere online. Thanks
I like your callygraphy :) I have a question for you. How often do you use the digitizer in your daily life? I'm looking for a convertible Win8 tablet for university and the only devices being considered for me are Samsung ATIV PC Pro and the ASUS Transformer Book TX300. Main differences between these are screen size (11.6" vs 13.3"), the digitizer feature, which isn't supported by ASUS' TX300 and the price (1499$ vs 1299$). Do you think I will miss the digitizer feature on the ASUS?
unfortunately you can't upgrade either the SSD or the Memory. On all current Atom Clover Trail processors, the SSD and memory is soldered to the main board. Only way to increase the storage is with a microSD card. I have tested a 64GB microSD and it works for storage. I have installed Office 2010 to the microSD card and works great. I noticed maybe about a second delay vs when I tested installed on the SSD on the Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T.
It is actually blue color. The Samsung ATIV 700T Smart PC Pro is black but has the i5 Core processor and price starts at $999. The ATIV 500T that is on this video is the blue color and you can find it as low as $499
Unfortunately it wouldn't work with a stylus, unless the laptop had a Wacom digitizer. You could purchase a capacitive type stylus and use that on a touch screen laptop but it wont be the same as a true Wacom digitizer for inking. You might look into the Samsung ATIV series that become a laptop when docked and tablet when removed, works great for inking.
The rejection works better on these tablets because of the Wacom digitizer. By using the special stylus that comes with the Samsung Smart PC ATIV 500T, you can take notes without worrying that your palm will interfere with your note taking.
HI!This is a great video :) I am very interesting the new processor "Clover trail" It seems more responsible than previous atom. Have you hear what is "Bluestacks"? That is a Android app emulator on windows. If you available, please test it on ativ smart pc. Thanks!
I want to buy it . but i am worried about it being laggy . and i wonder how would it perform if i installed a few more software . may be photoshop video editors ? What do u think ?
question: what if you use a stylus on the new "touchscreen" windows 8 laptops? does it need to say specifically it supports digital inking.. is digital inking dependent on the stylus/pen itself or is there something totally different about the screen. My school requires a laptop with digital inking but they are like 1500-2000$ and they suck.. I wanted to buy a decent computer with a touch screen and use a stylus (bamboo pen wacom) would it work?
Thank you for the great review. I remember you mentioning in the video but I couldn't get it properly, which stylus are you using? I guess the regular S-Pen cannot erase on the default reader app of Windows 8. How about other brands? For example the DELL stylus has two buttons which are claimed to make erasing tasks also but will it work on the default reader app? 2And lastly when will you make a review of Dell Venues? I am waiting impatiently :)
Hi, is this the 500t or 700? and what is the name of the stylus pen with the eraser? I have the xe500t - came with no pen, so I'd loke to buy the stylus with the eraser too. looks good.
Well have tested both, the ATIV is much more responsive compared to the Note 10.1 and having Win 8 to run full applications is a plus. This is tuff as I have used both and still use the Note for most quick notes and checking email. Using for notes, the ATIV seems better as I can note emails with the stylus. For daily note taking the Note would easier to carry around vs the ATIV. In meetings I use the ATIV with OneNote.
Oh sorry about that. That stylus is from a Samsung Series 7 Slate. Go to Amazon and type Samsung Series 7 Slate stylus. You should see them and runs about $34.
thank you so much, may I ask you if microsoft office programs are all there by default? or do I need to install them whether by purchasing or free download (if that is possible) Thank you very much in advance best wishes
I already tried using the stylus pf the galaxy note 2 but it dodn't work. I have the samsung ativm smart pc XE500T1C. now I see the differences between xe and x. Is there any stylus you know that works like that on the xe? thanks for your time! :)
can you try sketching in samsung smart ativ pc pro 700t? They said that its Pen is made by wacom. I just want to see how far can the ativ 700t go in sketching. Because buying powerful laptop with wacom's drawing tablet or even their cheapest one (cintiq or intous) its still expensive. The Microsoft Office programs is not included. You have to purchase the Microsoft Office programs, but you can download from online at Microsoft and try out the trial version for I believe 60 days.
No battery in the keyboard dock. The Tablet has a good battery, I would get between 9 to 12 hours depending on what I was working on. If you are using for applications that require a lot of processing power and watching video, then you will get less hours, around the 9 hours or less.
Lo stilo il più sottile dei due è da Samsung Serie 7 tablet Slate che anche io ho. Si può vedere la punta sullo schermo quando si avvicina allo schermo in modo da poterlo vedere.
Yes you can use snap-view to have TH-cam running in a smaller window and run S-Note to take notes. You can slide either screen to make it bigger once you are working in a note.

BokehGlass is correct. It is the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 500T with the new Atom Clover Trail processor.
Reviewer mention the tablet is a Cover Trail, which is an Atom processor (running Windows 8).
I'm actually using the S-Pen Holder kit, which was from my Galaxy Note. Works great for my Samsung tablets, Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 and Surface Pro tablet.
How is this device for taking Math notes can you also open two windows at a time to help on your math formulas and such?

It is the S Pen for the Galaxy Note. You can find it by searching S Pen holder kit. Try Amazon.
please can you give me a buying-link or the hole name of the pen with the eraser you use?
Thanks!
Hey I was actually referring to the other pen. What's that one called that you are using at the 7:50 mark of the video?
good video! i have the note 10.1 and was wondering if I should get this because i need a laptop for programming also.
Can you highlight sentences in word and pdf documents with the stylus?

Thanks for review - how does the handwriting to typed text work apart from on journal, and is the speed ok?
HI!This is a great video :)
I am very interesting the new processor "Clover trail"

Okay sounds good. Will give it a try and also don't see it not handling this. So far it has handled work applications great.

May I ask, the Samsung ATIV in this video is the one with Atom processor or it's ATIV pro with core i5? Thanks
Quick question, I've been eyeing this tablet but does it run the Unity 3D editor at all, or any old (e.g. GOG.com) or low end games?
I have a question ! Can we add a Ddr or SSD in the samsung ativ smart pc ?
Hi..is it possible to open up youtube n take down notes using s note at the same time . like having 2 multi windows?
is there difference bet. your test in ativ smart pc and ativ tab ?
Well have tested both, the ATIV is much more responsive compared to the Note 10.1 and having Win 8 to run full applications is a plus. Oh sorry about that. That stylus is from a Samsung Series 7 Slate. Go to Amazon and type Samsung Series 7 Slate stylus. You should see them and runs about $34.
does the keyboard have battery in it too?
Does original series 7 desktop dock with with the 500T?
I have a question. Does the stylus detect pressure, and can it tell if your pen is close to the screen? Thanks!
Your welcome, hope it helped.
Hi MrHG78! how's the performance when Editing/Layering 15mp Photos using Photoshop on the Ativ Smart Pc?? any lags when using Photoshop??
thank you so much,
may I ask you if microsoft office programs are all there by default? or do I need to install them whether by purchasing or free download (if that is possible)
Thank you very much in advance
best wishes
Can you try one note MX, I read that doesn't ink well on this device
Lenovo Yoga 13 , Samsung ATIV Q or Sony Vaio duo 13?
I already tried using the stylus pf the galaxy note 2 but it dodn't work.
I have the samsung ativm smart pc XE500T1C. now I see the differences between xe and x.
Is there any stylus you know that works like that on the xe? thanks for your time! :)
so for a college student, would you go with the ATIV or galaxy note 10.1?
@MrHG78 you should try the One Note 2013 metro app.. you can download it free I guess
Glad to hear! Thanks.
This is the Ativ Smart PC Pro right?
It shouldn't be a problem to have TH-cam running in snap view, which is side by side. I will double check and post back.
Hey, i'm buying this tablet, and i wanted to know if the programs you used came with it, or are free ?
can you try sketching in samsung smart ativ pc pro 700t?
They said that its Pen is made by wacom.
I just want to see how far can the ativ 700t go in sketching.
Because buying powerful laptop with wacom's drawing tablet or even their cheapest one (cintiq or intous) its still expensive.
So I dont know if buying ativ 700t is good Idea for practicing and for other purpose like personal computer.
NOTE: check smart ativ PC pro 700t on youtube/google.
thanks a lot man.
Thanks your video is helping me a lot to decide what to buy.
is your Samsung ATIV black? if it is where did you get it and how much did you pay
thanks so much!! wish every video has this!
The Microsoft Office programs is not included. You have to purchase the Microsoft Office programs, but you can download from online at Microsoft and try out the trial version for I believe 60 days.

thank you for your review!
What's the name of the first stylus you used ??
The stylus is from the Galaxy Note. It's called the S - Pen holder kit. Works great.
and power point?
Is this i5 3G?
What stylus are you using?
Lo stilo il più sottile dei due è da Samsung Serie 7 tablet Slate che anche io ho. Si può vedere la punta sullo schermo quando si avvicina allo schermo in modo da poterlo vedere.
0:55 Windows Journal
3:48 Mini S Note
4:51 Full S Note
6:45 One Note
9:14 Word
11:10 Adobe Reader
