Boy! What a marvelous rendition! He almost matches the John Gary rendition, including the final note!

What a lovely lady. I remember being in love with her when I was a kid in films like This is the Army and Sergeant York. Always thought she was beautiful . Thanks for this tribute.

What a lovely tribute to an even lovelier performer! I wasn't aware of her passing and am saddened to hear it. She brightened every film she was ever in, and her dancing with Mr. Astaire was amazing! I'm thanking both TheSorrowfulFlower for posting, and my friend Susan for sending to me.
    Best regards,
    varadero

I immediately fell in love with her the first time I saw Yankee Doodle Dandy. A absolutely beautiful and talented woman with both innocence and wit. Although not the top female stars at the time, she did play opposite to James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Fred Astaire, and Humphrey Bogart, 4 of the all time greats. Not many actresses could claim that. The song you chose was also one of my favourites. So, Thanks.

+Stone Salter I've always loved her, and you're right, she did play against some of the biggest names. One of my favorite songs, too. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting :))

She was my one-and-only...She was also a FINE actress whose career was short-circuited by a vengeful Jack Warner when she wanted to leave WB because of the junk she was asked to appear in. But watch her work in The Hard Way, High Sierra, Sergeant York, Skys; The Limit, and especially Repeat PErformance. The fact that she wasn't mentioned on the OScar show is a total disgrace. She had starred with Cagney, with Bogard, with Gary Cooper, Fred Astaire, Robert Walker...and was extraordinary in Born To Be Bad, at which time director Nicholas Ray indicated that she was the only pro in the cast who listened to direction and discussed the part (which should have earned her a Best Supporting nomineee). I had been in comtact with her, and we discussed my writing her bio...invited to see me in LA (ifI got there) or in NY (if she got here). Beautiful, warm, thoughtful actreess who deserved A LOT MORE than eventually supporting Vera Ralston at Republic!!!!
