glad Erick finally came around to the excellence that is this game, but didn't even mention the OST? Seriously epic OST, one of the best I have ever heard. Loved the story and its plot twists, the combat does take time to adjust to, but its also really good. Its my all time favorite JRPG. Its really THAT good!
I don't understand his point about this. if it's on Xenoblade 2 then yes enemies were designed with chain attack orb combos so they have a shit ton amount of hp if you don't know what you are doing. but with Xenoblade 1, I never encountered this problem, I didn't even spam topple lock.
One of best RPG I ever played. And one of best story. I like how this new version fixed the 2 worst weaknesses (in my opinion): the menus and the sidequests hints.
They also added things that allow you to 100% the game on one playthrough. The older versions required you to play new game+ to complete everything (rebuilding Colony 6)
Had the 3DS version and couldn’t get into the battle system and the endless wiki checks to find the items. After 2 and Torna I had to give DE a shot and was not disappointed. The item pathing was the biggest help I had to do every side quest lol.
@@chronofantasy1987 Nope, Gears has a horribly paced story and terrible disc 2 and Saga has dull gameplay and characters. Blade is on a whole other level than it's predecessors.
My favorite part about this game (and the series) is the long lost design choice of allowing you to stumble upon crazy high level enemies early on, only to be able to come back & destroy them later in the game. I hate when games have enemies that always scale to your level. You never get to feel a proper sense of power. Oh, and the music is fantastic :)
Territorial Rotbart and Immovable Gonzales really set me off to get strong enough to beat them lol, I got absolutely obliterated by those two specifically the first time I played and it genuinely pushed me to keep on going even if I was already loving the game!
I share this feeling with you. On my first ever playthrough on New3DS I never actually "grinded", even before a certain boss that's largely considered to be the hardest in the game I just tried out different teams until it worked out. But experiences can differ of course. :)
I own this game on every system that it’s available for. One of my all time favorite RPGs and easily the best game to come out of Operation Rainfall. Though if Nintendo wants to port The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower to the Switch I certainly wouldn’t complain.
The story for this game is one of my favorite JRPG stories since the original Xenogears itself. I did beat the Wii version was kind of a pain with the remote so all the changes for the DE with the pro controller just made it feel even more amazing. And it finally looks as good as it deserves to look. I always felt the graphics for the Wii version did this amazing world setting a major disservice. This one is up there in my top 10of JRPGs and at this point I have played hundreds of JRPGs in my life so that is saying a lot.
The wii version was horrible with wiimote. i played it through with Classic Controller and loved it. I never understood why they won't let us use gamecube controllers. Now with Pro Controllers on switch it's perfect
This is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I beat it on Wii and Switch. Loved how streamlined it felt on switch. I played the base game for 30 less hours and still managed to do more sidequests than on Wii. It's a definite masterpiece.
I beat this game early this year and absolutely loved it. the past week i've been playing through Chronicles 2, also loving it to death, 60+ hours in, up to chapter 7, been taking my sweet ass time cause i've been doing a lot of side stuff. (edit: also wanna say that XCDE is also probably the reason why i got so hooked on Final Fantasy 12, the similar auto-attack battle system/semi-open world really pulled me in, and i've already beated FF12 twice this year. The Xenoblade series is quickly becoming one of my all time favourites) (edit2: finally beat XC2 loved it took me 90 hours, although i do think XC1 had a better story, but i preferred the combat in 2 personally)
It’s a masterpiece. The best RPG I’ve ever played. They crammed soooo much into this game. I’ve only played the original Wii version. I never had any problems with the difficulty, didn’t have to grind for any boss battles or anything. Maybe I just got enough exp from the amazing exploration of the game and the amount of side quests it throws at you
Its not the difficulty spike that make telethia fight harder, it just some fight mechanic that you miss. I bet even if you 5 level above it and can't tell when the right time to use purge, enchant and topple strategy, you'll just end up run around in circle.
it's about $80 here in Australia if you're buying it from EB Games which sells all their games at higher prices compared to other stores. about $70 for other places... still a lot though If you want the new Ratchet and Clank game brand new, EB Games sells it at $125... no joke, and it's only the regular version, no bonus stuff or anything
I only played the original on wii when it came out and boy did I love this game! I agree with you about the few tough bosses here and there, but for me I found out that instead of grinding, switching the controlled character to Sharla was the best solution, her AI isn't great but when i was the one playing her the bosses became much more manageable! Man it's been so many years, your video really makes me want to visit it back! Love your work!
So glad you completed it and now you love it! I played the original game on the Wii and it became one of my absolutely favorite games of all time since then! XCX is also one of my favourites but you can tell its not as complete as this one.
Well good news Erick, there's a handy feature in DE called Expert Mode. You can scale the levels however you please since this game is super sensitive to level differences and that can vastly affect the difficulty. Generally you want to level down your characters by about 4-5 levels under your targets. That means most targets should be in the YELLOW color. Then it's more balanced. When you get better at the game you can even fight RED targets consistently (they require either an Ether team or a physical team with agility, night vision, or just Dunban's Serene Heart Aura to hit). I have no idea what you're talking about with the fights taking too long. I was burning through most encounters my first run. Did you utilize your skill links? Those can be easy to forget and go a long way to making your party insane. Also, aside from the very end of the game in the Bionis Interior, I'd say the game is like one of the least grindy JRPGs ever.
Dethroning God has been a concept first introduced since JRPGS original inception back in the late 80's. But you know, I think at this point Erick, most of us has just welcomed it as a sort of trend of jrpg stories. I think what matters most though is how the story has clever twists and turns and developments that gives its own unique appeal leading up to the point where you fight god. The end result may be a god like enemy but the story surrounding it certainly has its own original plot that unfolds. I have to be honest though, there is nothing more satisfying then fighting an other wordly cosmic being of destruction for a "final boss", it always makes the final enemies really interesting. Unlike lets say FF XV which ended up just being a glorified powered up Arydn. Way to break Traditions FF XV :)
I've noticed that my taste in games seems to change as time goes on. I put down ff tactics after the first battle and didn't play for years. I went back into it, and it became one of my favorites. Same thing with xc2 and ff12. As far as xc2 goes, once you get through the first few hrs, that game is absolutely great
Thank you for talking about this game I saw your video and decided to click on it I also really appreciate no spoilers in this I literally just started this game a couple weeks ago and I'm literally getting ready to start the first dungeon the game after doing all the side quests that I can up to the point of the first dungeon I'm about 12 to 14 hours then and I'm loving this game can't wait to see what Xenoblade Chronicles throws at me
I bought this game 5 days ago and have already sunk so many hours into this brilliant game. I love my Jrpgs and I can already say this is one of the most breathtaking. Love the video, can't wait for the next one.
I've read somewhere that the casual mode is good for grinding levels quick and you can just switch back when you're done. I read this idea after i beat the game tho lol
I've bought the game three times (Wii, 3ds, Switch) and beat it three times. So I must have spent close to 300 hours on it. I absolutely love this game. It's one of my favourite games of all time. I love the world, I love the story, I love the characters, and I love the gameplay. It's the high water mark of modern, action jrpgs and the best game MonolithSoft has ever made, and they have no shortage of great games.
Hi! I only have a 3ds do you think is still worth playing or should I just wait till I get a switch? Having played both versions, do you think the 3ds version is far inferior o not too much?
@@mateopadilla3477 Other than the graphics, the biggest improvement to the Switch version was the quality of life changes. There's a few annoyances in the older versions that the Switch changes. However, I'd say it's still worth playing the 3ds version if you don't have a Switch. The older versions aren't that bad compared to the Switch one. Doing a 100% run on the old ones is a lot tougher, but if you just want to play for the story (which is best for the first playthough) the 3ds version is fine. Heck, even after you beat the 3ds version, you may want to buy it again when you get your Switch. I beat the game on 3ds, then it was announced for Switch. So I ended up playing the game twice within a few months.
Also Xenoblade Chronicles X is not a normal game, its a masterpiece. the game is very huge in terms of exploration and monsters range from very small to gargantuan. The game is screaming for a direct sequel, all the tables are ready for a continuation, but sadly nothing until now.
It is a masterpiece. This game seriously blew me away... I played the Wii version on my WiiU, but if I ever get Switch, I will have to get this game again.
An A tier game for me which was a B tier for me before Definitive Edition The music is fantastic, the game looked really good in its definitive edition (I remember playing the Wii version and at least once a day always saying "I wish this was a Playstation game") and I did enjoy the combat system quite a lot. The worldbuilding is fantastic and it's actually the main reason this game looks so good, even if graphics obviously help. But it's the worldbuilding what created the amazing locations the game has to offer. Topple mechanic could quickly become a bit too broken, but it still took some time, practice and experimentation to get to that point, so that's kinda fine. I overall had a really fun time with its combat system, though I do wish the super bosses would've been a bit more of a challenge. But then again, I guess this can be solved if I just handicap myself into beating them without topple, and now that's quite a challenge. Now, about my negative points... lets start by saying I didn't have Erick's problem with the difficulty. Haven't tried casual, but normal felt like the right difficulty for me. Challenging enough, but not a grindfest or mission impossible, and not a walk in the park either. It was ok. That said, I am one of those old RPG fans I guess that wasn't that impressed with the story. I liked it, but it was an ok, nice story. That's it. That's technically not a negative point, and this might be unfair, but it does feel underwhelming when you have Xeno in your name, since Xenogears and Xenosaga have some of the best stories ever produced in JRPG. Kinda connected to the story, and more in a personal way, I didn't really feel that attached to the main cast. I don't think I disliked a single member of the cast, but I lacked attachment to them... wait, actually I didn't like "Seven" (juuuust in case someone still hasn't been spoiled about this). Shulk was a nice protagonist I guess, and I did like Melia until the story indeed kinda forgot about her (Future Connected was appreciated). Also kinda liked Dunban... but again, not that much attachment for me, and I tend to be good at getting attached to characters in my games while I play them. As a whole, my negative points are not even negative points to be honest. It's more like what they lacked for me to make this game an S tier in my book. Without being much of a fan of open worlds in RPGs, this is more or less an open world, and I actually did enjoy it quite a lot, and running through the fields, caves, mountains or whatever with such an amazing sountrack is something I actually enjoyed. The clock is also great in this game. Just as I thought with its Wii version, it reminded me of Radiata Stories, where every NPC has it's own daily routine and moves from place to place at different times, helping the world feel more alive. Finally, just saying that besides the graphical improvements, the quality of life improvements from Definitive Edition are also a huge help into making this one of the better remasters, if not the best, I've ever played. Can't jump into the "one of the best games I've ever played" wagon, but I can definitely highly recommend it. And I mean, I think I have a 200+ hours save file on the Switch (and had a similar one for the Wii), so yeah, wouldn't spend that much time on a game I didn't really like.
Appreciate the review Erick. So glad you have come around to this game. With the definitive edition it has become my favorite RPG of all time. As you said the plotline is not original but with most RPG's we are getting to the point of that happening. But also as you said it was written excellently. It's not without it's flaws but the voice acting and the plot are great. As many have mentioned here, boss battles all centered around strategy. I found no boss battles difficult simply because I knew which characters and which skills were best used to counter and get the maximum DPS when facing these hard bosses. I think that alone made it intriguing. It wasn't about just spamming or powering up, it was truly about planning each of your four characters and their skill sets. And the ending to this game gave a true ENDING feel. Even without Future Connected I was satisfied with how it all went down. And to echo others, one of the best soundtracks on any RPG. Also the immersion that this world has is amazing. When you fall off the floating islands, you FEEL like you are falling. When that music that signifies a HARD enemy is about to attack you feel the suspense. Overall it's not perfect but I would still rank it as S tier but I respect your view on it as an A tier and can understand. Great video. Keep it up.
The game has three difficulty settings, not two, namely casual, normal and expert. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if you are having trouble with this game you likely did not understand how to use its systems properly (from your description, you did not use topple and seal correctly), how to use the gems to do more damage or how the chain attacks work.
I felt like the combat had a fine line between easy and impossible. If I was within 3 levels of whatever boss I was fighting, the combat was trivial. I could beat any boss without losing a single character. If I was more than 3 levels below a boss, almost all of my basic attacks would miss and since arts only got charged on hits I couldn't heal or do anything and I would die while barely leaving a scratch on the boss.
@@Eternalwarpuppy you can counter miss chance in several ways, easiest one is getting higher agility (gems, use light equipment and talents). You can also use Melia, there is a summon element that increases agility. You can also use increased tension and night vision gems.
@@Eternalwarpuppy Exactly what KnolanCross said. With the proper gem and/or skill link setup, missing shouldn't be much of an issue for even 10 levels under. In fact, my mostly optimised endgame setup allowed me to delevel to like, lvl 1 and beat a lvl 30 unique enemy or something ridiculous like that. It's really not that bad if you understand what the mechanics are reliant upon, but it can be easy to miss some because most enemies in the game can be brute forced (and indeed is sometimes quicker to brute force in the short run).
I can't await to play my Definitive Edition ... when I have 4 months to spare. It's been on my backlog. I did play the Wii original, & *LOVED IT* ... every month of it. But the Wii version felt like a major accomplishment, having been a staff member of Operation Rainfall -- t'was our 1st accomplishment. I was so hooked, I did every single thing, which took 'round 4 months. Now I understand that the Definitive Edition is a bigger game, so I imagine this'd likely take longer. Will get to it eventually.
I had high hopes for this game but in my second session playing I literally started to fall asleep while playing. I figured I was just tired, so I stopped playing, but then it happened on my next session as well. The battle felt very repetitive, and not very challenging once you level up high enough. I don't think it was on casual mode because the bosses were pretty tough. I think part of the problem that I had with it was that your health gauge fully restores a few seconds after defeating an enemy. It just felt like I was running from checkpoint to checkpoint and having repetitive battles in between. I also felt like some of the items just made it super easy to get OP, and the quests were really basic fetchquests that weren't rewarding. I guess this game was just not for me.
I think the problem in general that the did have much diversity it was just exploration & combat nothing to break the repetitiveness, (side quests are boring, so I don't count those) but overall I enjoyed the supercharged mini bosses. There were some platforming, but not a lot, but I hope Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is has way more to offer whenever that game comes out.
I beat it recently too and I was happily impressed ! I wasn't too sure about the battle system but it grew on me. Story, music and characters développement was top notch. Very long and very good game , I'm looking forward to play the rest of the series between all the new jrpg that are coming out soon and in 2022
If you liked this I'd recommend Xenoblade X, there's a mechanic you unlock a few chapers in that's kinda spoilery and plot-related but it's really fun once you get the hang of it and lets you kill enemies faster
X I never completely grasped its combat. I did play through the entire game, beat it, and enjoyed it for the most part. Story was OK, combat was more confusing, menus were too small, one thing it did really well though was its exploration and world, especially when you finally get a Skell. I mean exploring in that game rivals any game ever. I feel like the gameplay wasn't explained as well.
The problem with X is that it gets kind of tedious. Paying for skells is a huge pain. Thankfully there are cheats in the Wii U emulator that make it less annoying. If Nintendo ever ports it to Switch, hopefully they'll integrate quality of life improvements. Also, there's the stupid cliffhanger ending.
@@ancientrune1674 X is definately the most different in the series. Kind of wish it had a Switch port, but the double screen made it work better on Wii U than it probably would on Switch.
While I respect your opinion, I don't understand why the complaints about the game being too grindy and bosses have too much HP when you consider Persona 3 FES a masterpiece including it's gameplay? (Which I believe FES has the worst gameplay among JRPG history without the party control mod) Do the sidequests, always upgrade arts/equipment/gems, take out the enemies within range, take advantage of the skill link trees, and you'll be good.
I wanted to play this, but in decided on playing SMT4 to prepare for SMT5. I'm trying to space out my Kiseki games so I can stretch them out until Crossbell is fully released.
@@kowanoka no. Just SMT4. Heard I should avoid Apocalypse. I think thematically and mechanically 4 is enough for an appreciation of 5. They don't exactly take place in the same world, so story isn't really an issue.
@@yy-hj4br I understand you, i haven't played SMT4, but finished Apocalypse, and it is gorgeous in my opinion. I am sure that SMT 4 is also fantastic game.
@@yy-hj4br yes, Apocalypse was the first game in the series for me. The story makes sense in overall as the idea that they have the alternative story line. But yes, i have to admit that some things were difficult to understand like the Navarre initial story, however the game provides the short explanation for the new players.
nah man it was me, too. tired of being a fan of the black sheep xenoblade game that sold on a failed, and now obsolete, console.... well I'm not tired of being one but it would certainly be nice if xenoblade chronicles x could get some attention
What a coincidence, I'm in the middle of this game myself! I'm only 5 hours in or so and I love it. I enjoyed it enough to pay some inflated prices for the part 2 and the DLC cartridges. I've owned X since it was released, but I couldn't get into it back when it came out. I'm going to try to beat all of these in order now. The thing I like so much about it is how much it reminds me of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, one of my favorite games of all time.
I really liked this game too but I only beat it on the Wii and it sure took sometime. I won't be getting the newest version though since I usually don't get remasters if I already beat it unless it's been 10-20 years since I played the original. The music, like all of Yasunori Mitsuda's music, is epic too but I also really enjoyed the 2nd game too and his music in it too.
i love this game to pieces. if you do the side quests ( which i know you usually skip ) it helps level you up more so the difficulty isn't as noticeable. probably my 2nd favorite game of all time only behind ff14. so glad to hear you enjoyed it too! cheers!
Lol honestly i did the exact same thing. Finished this game about a month ago just before the release of tales of Arise. Didn’t dig the Wii version and bought the definite version on day 1 but never got around to it. I had played 2 tho a few years ago
I played the WII version on dolphin emulator long ago, still loved it one of my favorites JRPG alongside with FF6-FF9, Radiant Historia, Shadow Hearts, Chrono Cross, Persona 2-5, Ao No Kiseki and Suikoden 2, 5
How do you wear armor that is in the top part of equipment/appearance section in the menu area? I also want to know where you got the hoodie and white chinese top that Dunban and Shulk wear?
The main problem you'll encounter is not knowing where the hell to find stuff for sidequests. I recommend being armed with the Wiki. The DE added much better quest and objective tracking, but the UI and graphical distinctiveness of the Wii version gives it its own merit if you'll forgive its age. If you find any one of those things annoy you, try the DE someday and you won't be disappointed - but disable the new soundtrack, it's god-awful.
@@ChrisStoneinator so I wouldn't miss anything of the plot? Only the epilogue thing that Erick talked about that is only in the DE, right? I know it'll be rough for the gameplay but if the story catches me enough (as it did with Erick) and is basically complete, it won't be a problem for me I guess.
@@samuele4001 oh yeah you're good! The epilogue is very detached and frankly not as well written, so it's nice to have on its own but not necessary for completeness.
I'm proud to say that I didn't give in to switching to casual mode regardless to how many times I struggled and failed at beating several boss fights. 😄 Sometimes, it all comes down to how you can take advantage of certain attacks and tactics. My biggest gripe is how some non-boss fights abuse the future visions with fatal attacks so much. Like I'd have a full 4,000 HP and the future vision would say "whoop, you're gonna die with the enemy's 6,000 fatal blow 🤭." Like come on now! And sometimes, that happens way too many times and back to back. But other than that, the game is pretty solid.
The original on the Wii was grindy, but I went to explore frequently and that made me feel like I was not grinding at all, the "no game over" mechanic helps a lot too, you died? no problem! you keep all your XP, items and all; you just go back to the nearest viewpoint. I just had trouble with 2 or 3 bosses, the disciple woman inside the Bionis was the worst for me, I thought I'd never defeat her, but 3 levels up and it was manageable. The best part of the remaster is not having to use a @#$%ing Wii mote. I hope they bring Xenoblade X too so I can play it without the @#$%ing WiiU gamepad
"Grinding" was part of the fun thanks to the music in this game... collecting items, art books, weapons, gems, doing side quests, killing rare monsters and super bosses... crazy satisfying, almost like FF12, the main difference is that this game has an actual good story.
Most people underutilize the link system (the passive and active skills character link) on the menu. You can actually break the game if you make good use of that thing
Glad you enjoyed it. I beat it on 3ds, took me a good 68 hours if I remember. I didn’t do side quest so it was Grindy lololool. Was getting whooped by some bosses, I never changed the difficulty though
Even though I have a wii, I've never got the chance to play this game. I watched a review (IGN I think) years ago when it first came out and listened to the praises among the comments of online gamers yet couldn't buy it brand new since it's price was unreasonable. (I love to remove the plastic from my brand new games, the anticipation makes me feel like a kid again.) Wouldn't it be strange if I admitted that all these years I always wanted to play this game just based on the cover art capturing my curiosity, attention, and just making me want to know me more about the game despite all the reviews and comments? Thankfully, I bought the definitive edition last year. Now, I just need to wait till this October to actually buy a switch for my backlog.
@@newgameaaaa oh, it is? Idk about the 2's art style change or mainly too much fan service (I know ironic right? Fanservice is the norm in jrgps but I personally just can't get behind it when it extends past one or two girls but that's just me), I can take my first gripe/peeve in spades if the fanservice was tone down to a certain respectable degree. I'll have to think about buying and playing 2 when I finally play the first one. Have you played x and if you have, what's your opinion on it as a whole?
@@justinmckenzie3318 No I haven't played X. The way I handle my backlog is to play at least 1 game in a series so I know what is like. I have only played Xenogears last year. That game was deep. The story was so involved, but the battle system could use some refinement. I also still have to play the Xenosaga series. The Xenoblade games to me kind of looks like Phantasy Star Online which I have also played and liked a lot for its time.
@@newgameaaaa @newgameaaaa I've only played all of xenosaga but haven't completed 1 since it requires a certain version of the PS2 to play and I don't have PC to emulate it with pcsx2. I've always wanted to play xenogears but it's pretty much the same complications as xenosaga 1 except my phone's not powerful enough to emulate it and we all know about the witch hunt that's been going against rom sites and that doesn't help a great deal either. (Why xenogears like chrono trigger hasn't had multiple ports since they are both ground breaking games is completely baffling to me. Hopefully switch will eventually allow at least chrono trigger to be accessible by it's SNES emulator.) I've also never played phantasy star online but I have heard gamers talk much praise about it tho.
@@newgameaaaa oh i forgot warn you about xenosaga episode 2. All the characters have the same skills (I'm not sure if they have character exclusive skills like in both 1 and 3 but I'll have to look that up right now just in case I'm wrong.)
I just used casual mode to grind levels tbh. Casual mode is broken, you can break the game by killing level 70 plus enemies as level 40 in casual mode is way too easy to do.
Actually they don't if you play the game correctly. For one you have various systems like the Skill three and gems etc. to make you a lot more powerful. The other aspects is to understand how to use chain attacks correctly. If you use chain attacks right you can do some insanely long chain attacks with some insane damage multipliers. It's also a bit about finding the enemies weakness, for example the telethia boss can easily be defeated by using the right monado art (the game explains which one). Also if you just grab every single quest you see and kill whatever that quest is pointing at you probably don't need to grind at all.
I'm not sure what Erick didn't like about the original. I've put 45 hours in it super quickly, and it's my second-favorite game. I'm glad he enjoyed DE. What's the difference besides graphics and the epilogue thing?
I started this recently and am currently switching between it and Tales of Berseria. I blame Cold Steel 4 for leaving me with no more Trails games (in English!) to play and not being able to settle into a game properly after it! But they are both great fun, and tahts teh main thing. Just need to stick with them till I get them finished!
For me, I was interested in the story. I only played 10 hours before I didn't want to play anymore. I couldn't get into the battles and didn't feel like exploring the world. The same happened with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If I had more time, I probably would play it more.
Hey Erick love the videos as always you are awesome dude 😁 🤘🏻 my favourite youtuber ever. I do want to ask you tho when are you gonna be doing the top 10 best JRPGs World maps music ever?
I think its story and combat are better and also its music. If you never play the game you should listen to the OST, One of the best ever in videogames.
The story and characters are much better in XC than in XC2. Within the first couple hours, the game hooks you. Shulk has a motivation that is easy to relate to and you want to follow him. I never really felt connected to Rex in 2. He just felt along for the ride. The combat in the first game is much simpler and easier to understand. XC2 was just too chaotic and the game does a terrible job explaining it.
As a person who got into the series a little over a year ago, i gotta say, i was stunned by the amount of content their is in the series, it's insane sure there's a ton of fetch quests, but they're done in such a great way that you can do them on the fly while progressing through the main story, and they even give you an excuse to explore these beautiful open areas potentially finding amazing secret areas quickly becoming one of my all time favourite series ever made.
I never had problem with any battles they were always short and easy normal mode but I did a lot of sidequests so didnt experienced that. One of the best jrpgs out there👍🏼
Surprise you didn’t try Expert Mode but is not really a difficulty setting, is more that you can control party members level and stuff. I haven’t play as many JRPG as you (I wish). So the story of defeating god and a world with no god is new to me and that’s why I give XCDE +90 very easily. Glad you played to have a proper opinion on it.
Hello, I only have the new 3ds. I recommend the version of Xenoblade for that console, that is, I know that the graphic noble is much lower but I do not know if the story changes compared to the final version.
Yeah this game revolves around mastering the mechanics. If you ain’t got the mechanics down then bosses tend to take a while to beat. Once to get what does what and all the mechanics down then you can’t beat most boss/mini boss/ rare enemies in 1-2 minutes tops sometimes even seconds once you get past level 60.
I wanted to love this vid.... er game, I really did! But this is one of those games I don't like that everybody else does. Interesting that (passed) you says it changed?
glad Erick finally came around to the excellence that is this game, but didn't even mention the OST? Seriously epic OST, one of the best I have ever heard. Loved the story and its plot twists, the combat does take time to adjust to, but its also really good. Its my all time favorite JRPG. Its really THAT good!
The reason the bosses have so much HP is because if they didn't when you stack multipliers or topple lock the boss will die in like 5 seconds.
Oh man, you have 12 years old gameplay video on your chanel..my respect
Yeah if you abuse the game you can beat most bosses in 30 secs
Just use sword drive lol

I love how easy it is to do side quests now. Best improvement that I’ve noticed so far.
If you like this story you'll definitely enjoy Xenogears and Xenosaga even more.
@@chronofantasy1987 Nope, Gears has a horribly paced story and terrible disc 2 and Saga has dull gameplay and characters. Blade is on a whole other level than it's predecessors.
Erick: Let's talk about Xenoblade Chronicles DE...
Xenoblade fans: Allow me to introduce myself!
If you do 10% of the side quests you need zero extra griding. I feel that’s what the developers tried to do. It felt very balanced to me.
I probably did 90% and didn't need extra grinding, on the Wii version anyways, but the quests themselves feel kinda "grindy" to many folks
Yeah on the 3ds version I had to grind. For sure cause of my lack of side quest, I’m going to replay it again on my switch
I share this feeling with you. On my first ever playthrough on New3DS I never actually "grinded", even before a certain boss that's largely considered to be the hardest in the game I just tried out different teams until it worked out. But experiences can differ of course. :)
sometimes the quests are the real pain.
Finding some enemies or hidden locations can freaking absurd
I own this game on every system that it’s available for. One of my all time favorite RPGs and easily the best game to come out of Operation Rainfall. Though if Nintendo wants to port The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower to the Switch I certainly wouldn’t complain.
Honestly I wouldn't mind that. Ironically I played all 3 games in the Tremendous Trio and enjoyed them all.
I really want a last story port.
@@ricardoluna4402 But knowing Nintendo it'll be like trying to pull teeth.
The last story was great, wish the game had more recognition!
Yea i spent 100 hours on wii just to beat the main story 😂 (and some major sidequests and cool equipment)
The Xenoblade series is quickly becoming one of my all time favourites)
(edit2: finally beat XC2 loved it took me 90 hours, although i do think XC1 had a better story, but i preferred the combat in 2 personally)
I was planning to buy this game, but was not sure. Now thanks to Erick, will be buying it next week. Erick, you should do more viideos like this !!!
It’s a masterpiece. The best RPG I’ve ever played. They crammed soooo much into this game. I’ve only played the original Wii version. I never had any problems with the difficulty, didn’t have to grind for any boss battles or anything. Maybe I just got enough exp from the amazing exploration of the game and the amount of side quests it throws at you
Yep, exploration is easy and chill and it gives you enough exp to run through the game without the need to grind.
This was my first Xenoblade game and it was an awesome experience for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it and finished it!
Its not the difficulty spike that make telethia fight harder, it just some fight mechanic that you miss.
I bet even if you 5 level above it and can't tell when the right time to use purge, enchant and topple strategy, you'll just end up run around in circle.
In Russia the game costs now around 20$ with the discount on the new physical cartridge.
Damn, in the UK I had to pay £40 which is about $50.
it's about $80 here in Australia if you're buying it from EB Games which sells all their games at higher prices compared to other stores.
about $70 for other places... still a lot though
If you want the new Ratchet and Clank game brand new, EB Games sells it at $125... no joke, and it's only the regular version, no bonus stuff or anything
Glad to see your review for this game! It's definitely one of my favorites on the switch!
In the Xenoblade games you can have a custom dificulty. In all of them I turned down the enemy HP. The bosses took too long normally.
Love it! Finished 2 yesterday , excited for more to come from this monolithsoft!
Sounds good. I want to buy Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but seems a bit expensive right now though.
@@newgameaaaa The prices really shot up after the whole Smash announcement

The most impressive things about xenoblade games, especially this one:
1) World design
2) Variety of enemies
3) OST
Did you just spoil the game for no reason?
I was waiting for a video about XC for so long!
I've noticed that my taste in games seems to change as time goes on. I put down ff tactics after the first battle and didn't play for years. I went back into it, and it became one of my favorites. Same thing with xc2 and ff12. As far as xc2 goes, once you get through the first few hrs, that game is absolutely great
Thank you for talking about this game I saw your video and decided to click on it I also really appreciate no spoilers in this I literally just started this game a couple weeks ago and I'm literally getting ready to start the first dungeon the game after doing all the side quests that I can up to the point of the first dungeon I'm about 12 to 14 hours then and I'm loving this game can't wait to see what Xenoblade Chronicles throws at me
For the 2010-2020 era this is by far to me the best RPG of the decade, close second being Tales of Berseria.
Love that you loved it! ❤️ it's one of my favorite JRPGs.
Getting this for sure! I'll get it during the next eShop sale. Thanks for recommending it!
Wow. I want to buy Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but seems a bit expensive right now though.
@@fattiger6957 Thanks for the detailed response! I´ll definitely try the game now in my 3ds :)
Also Xenoblade Chronicles X is not a normal game, its a masterpiece. the game is very huge in terms of exploration and monsters range from very small to gargantuan. The game is screaming for a direct sequel, all the tables are ready for a continuation, but sadly nothing until now.
And here I still have to finish my plathrough on the 3DS
It is a masterpiece. This game seriously blew me away... I played the Wii version on my WiiU, but if I ever get Switch, I will have to get this game again.
An A tier game for me which was a B tier for me before Definitive Edition
The music is fantastic, the game looked really good in its definitive edition (I remember playing the Wii version and at least once a day always saying "I wish this was a Playstation game") and I did enjoy the combat system quite a lot.
Keep it up.
It's worth beating the game just for the OST alone.
Nahhh og ost was better
@@memesfact1552 future connected ost tho…
@@memesfact1552 I agree. The remastered OST wasn't good I had to turn it off very early.
This was a review. I loved it! You should do more reviews
Will get to it eventually.
.....oh, and this is my favorite Xenoblade game. Didn't care for 2 or X as much.
I just finished it yesterday. What timing. It's a game I kept putting for some reason.
About time Erick! This game is one of the best RPGs out there
I had high hopes for this game but in my second session playing I literally started to fall asleep while playing.
Hasnt he played X and liked it.

(Which I believe FES has the worst gameplay among JRPG history without the party control mod)
Do the sidequests, always upgrade arts/equipment/gems, take out the enemies within range, take advantage of the skill link trees, and you'll be good.

They were talking about a sequel to this series and I was like "just port XCX already." but maybe that's just me.

How do you wear armor that is in the top part of equipment/appearance section in the menu area? I also want to know where you got the hoodie and white chinese top that Dunban and Shulk wear?
I just bought a Wii and the original XC, I hope I won't miss too much by not playing the DE.
One of the best jrpgs I’ve played. Glad you liked it
Great review!
What about the rumors of Xenoblade Chronicles 3?
"Grinding" was part of the fun thanks to the music in this game... collecting items, art books, weapons, gems, doing side quests, killing rare monsters and super bosses... crazy satisfying, almost like FF12, the main difference is that this game has an actual good story.
Most people underutilize the link system (the passive and active skills character link) on the menu. You can actually break the game if you make good use of that thing
I love both versions even graphically I think they both have unique strengths.
Glad you enjoyed it. I beat it on 3ds, took me a good 68 hours if I remember. I didn’t do side quest so it was Grindy lololool. Was getting whooped by some bosses, I never changed the difficulty though
Dude this game is epic! Never played the original, but loved the second…playing this version was amazing
There's also Expert mode which is the perfect "hard" mode. You can just put your level 2-4 levels below a boss and have a real challenge on ya

Masterpiece +
Actually they don't if you play the game correctly. For one you have various systems like the Skill three and gems etc. to make you a lot more powerful. The other aspects is to understand how to use chain attacks correctly. If you use chain attacks right you can do some insanely long chain attacks with some insane damage multipliers. It's also a bit about finding the enemies weakness, for example the telethia boss can easily be defeated by using the right monado art (the game explains which one).
Also if you just grab every single quest you see and kill whatever that quest is pointing at you probably don't need to grind at all.
Keep seeing videos for this game. Time to remove the plastic. Recommendation accepted.
what's the game at 0:47?
Are you going to play through Xenoblade 2 now? You may already have beaten it, but if not, it's great too!
I'm not sure what Erick didn't like about the original. I've put 45 hours in it super quickly, and it's my second-favorite game. I'm glad he enjoyed DE. What's the difference besides graphics and the epilogue thing?
There's markers and tracking for sidequests, that's the main gamechanger if you ask me. Otherwise I'd still be recommending the original.
@@ChrisStoneinator Neat. They are nice quality of life changes, but I'm 45 hours in, so I'll keep plugging along. Thanks.
Best switch game I ever played until the last 4 hours of the game when things just went strange and weird
Fallen Arm to Mechonis Core was definitely when the story peaked, but I think the endgame was solid.
Hey Erick love the videos as always you are awesome dude 😁 🤘🏻 my favourite youtuber ever. I do want to ask you tho when are you gonna be doing the top 10 best JRPGs World maps music ever?
Nice review :) but if you think the telethia is hard, you haven't met the superbosses in this game
If I didn't like XCX or XC2 is there a chance I'll like this one?
Maybe
XC1>X>2
I think its story and combat are better and also its music. If you never play the game you should listen to the OST, One of the best ever in videogames.
Yes, I like this one but don't like the other two.
Yeah, because you're playing the game with so many arts that it's way more engaging than let's say, XC 2.
I wish rpgs were still this meaty
As a person who got into the series a little over a year ago, i gotta say, i was stunned by the amount of content their is in the series, it's insane
sure there's a ton of fetch quests, but they're done in such a great way that you can do them on the fly while progressing through the main story, and they even give you an excuse to explore these beautiful open areas potentially finding amazing secret areas
quickly becoming one of my all time favourite series ever made.
What is the intro music of your videos, Erick?
The HP of the enemies was a big problem for me in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but not so much in this game
Hello, I only have the new 3ds. I recommend the version of Xenoblade for that console, that is, I know that the graphic noble is much lower but I do not know if the story changes compared to the final version.
Today we need to talk about xenoblade
Shulk : today we use our power to talk about xenoblade and seize our series
Yeah this game revolves around mastering the mechanics. If you ain’t got the mechanics down then bosses tend to take a while to beat. Once to get what does what and all the mechanics down then you can’t beat most boss/mini boss/ rare enemies in 1-2 minutes tops sometimes even seconds once you get past level 60.
I wanted to love this vid.... er game, I really did! But this is one of those games I don't like that everybody else does. Interesting that (passed) you says it changed?
