Hard to believe that the most modern car with actually good styling is an Irish wooden pedal car! 😄Great work, Tim! Been watching this series since it came out.
If all e-bike, small ev people had the vision Tim has, we would be scooting away in these. Instead, we got kick scooters. I watched the entire journey and i think Mott is the optimum form of this kind of vehicle. Robust, functional and foolproof. And most importantly it doesn't require an app. 😅 Cheers from Türkiye.
I have really enjoyed and appreciated watching the process of figuring this out, going through the iterations and not being scared to abuse your work in testing so that you can make it better
The Mott cars are fantastic Tim. Such a cool idea and design and I would love to see these replace lots of short journeys. Cars have slowly become so big and heavy recently. even the small cars like fiesta and mins are so much bigger and heavier.these days. Any gains the car industry has made with fuel efficiency seems to have been lost to size and weight gain. if these little cars could replace some short trips to the shops and to work that would be such a great achievement. Well Done mate.
Great improvements. I do recommend adding a chain guard in the under seat storage compartment. You don't want anything tangled up in the chain nor do you want to get oil and dirt on whatever you're storing in the compartment. Personally, I would also get rid of the second battery and install a buck converter to run the 12V accessories. It's easier to keep one battery charged and avoids the moments where you forget to charge the second battery and are left stranded without lights and turn signals. One might argue running everything off of one battery reduces complexity too.
This would be something the company who sells the electric conversion has to jump in and add these types of controls. The amount of money added to the conversion would only be another 10 to 20 dollars. Which would allow them to sell a upgraded version for cars, trikes and other self made stuff.
Some very nice improvements. Well done Tim. I think the metal rear frame is a very good idea. The name of your website ironpigs gives me a smile. I live in the area where Bethlehem steel used to be located for many decades before it went out of business in the 90's. There is a local minor league baseball team which is called the Iron Pigs. A small homage to the days when iron ore was initially converted to blocks of iron called pigs were made as part of the steel making process. Dave.
The Mott really looks phenomenal! Also you can buy 48v to 12v converters for roughly 15 bucks each online, and that way you wouldn't need a separate 12v battery. They're pretty simple to wire, just 2 48v in wires and 2 12v out wires. I hope the 3 wheeled pedal car I'm working on can look as nice as yours one day, though I definitely have a different inspiration for the design.
If I’m correct it’s a 36V battery (nominal so between 42 and 33V) but there are tiny step down converters which can accept a range of input voltages (up to 60 or 90 Volts) and with 2A output current, which should be enough for the few lights, for around 1.50€ on a famous Chinese website.
@@milhooz oh wow I didn't realize they got that cheap lol. And thankfully the ones I've used have been 36/48v in so it'll accept either and regulate the step down voltage to 12 (probably actually 12.5) regardless, but good to know the Mott is a 36
Fantastic job 👏👏👏. I look forward to seeing it at the shelsly Walsh hill climb 😉👍. You could take a trip to the Morgan factory whilst you're down that way and see how they build their wooden ash frames for their 3 wheelers in Malvern. Cheers J
I am pretty much ready to abandon a car since I don't work far away anymore. But just a bicycle is a bit too exposed and a hyper-aerodynamic velomobile too impractical. I already admired your ingenuity and style, but seeing it with all EU techical approval and in use on the road really drives home how it really is something else from a velomobile. I think this is what many people would enjoy using.
You should see if local schools want to get involved in a Mott electric series race. You could do a circuit, endurance trip and a paddock bash to see who can build and modify the best Mott within the Irish legal standard.
What you have done Tim we think is magnificent your a genius we really marvel at you.We just love Ireland and Irelands. We’ve never met but your a legend.Tim best wishes.🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🍀🍀🍀🍀☘️☘️☘️🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
I recommend an analog ejection seat rather than airbags, to avoid opening a big ol' can of worms that will only add weight and eventually lead to planned obsolescence.
Love that green color. But, "Does it come in Black?" Yes i am suggesting the Mott as the next Batmobile. Just needs a grappling gun and a jet engine. Seriously though, that is a brilliant piece of engineering. Truly believe these will sell. Saw a comment suggesting a Brass Made in Ireland badge. I second that idea.
Congratulations!!! I truly enjoyed your first build and so happy for your success! God bless you richly with many sales! Thanks for helping me learn with you!
this is so awesome! i do have one tiny suggestion tho! in the heavy item storage, i see the chain is exposed on the one side. items could get stuck in that, especially if taking corners. id suggest making a small partition or barrier to make sure the chain doesnt rub against items in the compartment
Cheap as chips - and looks great in green. I can definitely see Elon in one of these ;) Tim this could be your big ticket! Now for a killer marketing campaign... Oh, and I love the logo - very Deco :)
You might consider some sort of chain shroud for the under-the-seat storage. I can just imagine a bag of groceries getting tangled up with the chain. Eek.
Very nice and I like your new features ! I have a recumbent trike that I thoroughly enjoy and I find myself wanting to ride it to do small trips more and more. I don't have electric assist but, I can see where it would be very handy ! Do you have the ability to have regenitive braking or charging while pedling ? It could be very useful. I built a small system to power lights so I am seen because cars here in the USA don't watch for bikes or trikes let alone other cars. It's very hot here in Arizona with tons of days over a 1oo degrees F but a body would be very nice to have. Mine I wil make out of fiberglass ! Good luck with selling them and plans ! If more people would use them it would be a fun world in deed ! As always a thumbs up ! Have a great day/week !
Tim I love this!! your design well beats my Organic Transit ELF for sure I would love to share your documentation on building them with a discord I'm in for e-bikes. Would love to chat again soon great work keep it up. Hope the railway is going well 2 Cheers
Make one with a child seat and canopy (maybe over the back wheel, like conventional child seats) and I’d drive it to nursery and back twice a day 🚗 Great work Tim!
I would like to have a compartment for shopping items. Right now, I am pedalling an old Flevo Trike, and I have a box of about 45 x 45 x 25 cm³ to hold my goods (and two hooks to fix larger items on top).
It looks so professionally designed and manufactured. How much does tnis version weigh compared to previous versions? Are you going to make a production line in your barn next? Maybe have an option for a hitch on the back so you could pull a small trailer for packages or groceries? You could sell the hitch and trailer as optional accessories! 😊
@@wayoutwest-workshopstuff6299 Unless I missed it, you did not give a price. I know anything you do is priceless, but if you want to sell something, it needs to have a price on it.
Congrats on making it official! My only thoughts are (echoing what has been mentioned already) that this has a lot of potential for accessories, such as more storage, batteries, a solar pannel for charging...
Very nice. One suggestion... Put a 20W or 30W solar panel on the bonnet. That way it can charge itself over a period of days/weeks. Handy for people who don't have access to electricity or who forget to charge things.
If only governments would raise the restriction of the 25km/h electric assistance speed limit, pedal cars could really take off as cheap and effective commuter vehicles.
