  • A bit of a backstory.
Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed was released to the West in the Holiday season of 2012, with the game receiving good reviews and good sales numbers. Oddly however, the game skipped the Japanese market on launch, and it wouldn't be until 2014 that Japan saw the game released, and even then, the platform list was cut from Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, PSVita and PC to just Wii U and PC. This version also saw edits made to the game, with the most notable being the announcer being changed from a generic one to the voice of SEGA legend Takenobu Mitsuyoshi and the Blowfish item from the international version being replaced with Puyo, the stars of the iconic SEGA franchise Puyo Puyo.
Fastforward to this year. Me and my friends became interested in the game again and started to play the game quite a decent amount, or at least the most any of us had played of it since launch. One of the things we had always been obsessed by was the edits made to the Japanese version of the game, due to us all being huge SEGA fans. I had talked about downloading the Japanese PC version to give it to try, only to discover that the Japanese PC version lacked the changes made to the Japanese Console versions.
Now here's where this video comes in. I found a download for the JP version online (And no, I will not provide you with a link, for legal reasons), popped it onto my CFW'd Wii U, and began to record footage of the game.
I was always a bit disappointed with the lack of footage that I could find as an English speaker, due to most of the Japanese videos of this game having Japanese titles, so I hope this is able to satisfy your needs if you're a SEGA fan hungry for information like I am. ^_^

Considering that Mitsuyoshi knows basic English, and the announcer's dialogue isn't that complex, they should have had him do the English version of the game too! It would have made the announcer far more tolerable, IMO.

This makes it the most Sega version possible. He's easily their most famous composer and one of the few videogame composers who sings and can be recognised just by his voice.

Another detail I want to point out is how during the loading screens, instead of simply featuring tips like in the International Version, it features "Prof. Asobin's Advice". Prof. Asobin was an early SEGA mascot, giving his advice in the Japanese manuals for a many retro SEGA games, before being relegated to cameo roles after the debut of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Some examples of later Prof. Asobin cameos include the loading screens for the "Sega 3D Classics Collection" on Nintendo 3DS, and the Japanese WEB Manuals for "Sonic Mania" and "SEGA AGES" re-releases on Nintendo Switch.

I'm glad he did it but maybe they should have used the one from Sega Rally, or added some of the harmonies.

It's what replaces the Blowfish item in the JP version.

Judging by the description, the PC version is just text changes or nothing was changed there?
