Awsome video. I grew up in Huntington beach Cali 1970s till now. I still got my 1959 VW bug from my high school days early 1980's it's a Cal looker if you wanna call it that .( I never liked that term) . It's been painted 3 times since I got it .Still got most of its paint from when I painted it in 1982. It's been stolen twice, the front wheels were stolen once , its caught on fire 2 time's , I've gone through 5 motors on my sixth motor now and just put in a 2nd transaxle. I love my VW and I will never get rid of it. Old VWs never die they just get better with age. It's to bad you dont see to many older VWs on the road anymore.

I can watch this over and over. I'm 62 and got myself a '63 Bug this year. I grew up in San Diego and owned nothing but air cooled cars from the age of 15 to 33. I'm happy to be back in.

Back in 1969 I had my 1968 Bug that I customized in Santa Ana, California. We had a club there and would cruse Whittier Blvd. or the beaches in Orange County. Back then I added wide wheels on the back with fiberglass fenders, lowered the front, painted it gold and added a Porsche Super 90 with a Hurst shifter. We had lots of fun with our club in converting our cars to the Cal Look back then. Later on I moved into owning Porsche's. Now I live in New England and have a couple of Porsches and a 1963 bug with the Cal look on the East Coast.

Doesn't matter if you're into VWs, this is a great video. Do it with passion or not at all.

Grew up in Torrance, Redondo area in the seventies… all my buddies older brothers had call look bugs, mom had a brand new bug with auto shift, dad had a white on white 77 convertible which eventually became my college car while a student at ArtCenter in Pasadena. My parents made a move to New Mexico in 80 and I just got my drivers license. My dad purchased a 65 bug for me that I picked out and it was clean. Spent the next four years turning that car into a cal vdub and it was probably the first cal look bug in New Mexico at the time. Won awards at local car shows but man I miss the sound of the dual webers. Live in Tokyo now and there are some nice cal look vdubs here… I can be walking down a street and occasionally I hear that sound you only get from a vdub, always puts a smile on my face.

I enjoyed the video! Nice seeing the air cooled VW spirit living on. I owned (3) Beetles from 1982 to 2012, the last one was a Guards Red 71 with 1776 dual carb engine. The East Coast was a little behind when the crazy VW car shows started happening. I attended the very first Manassas VA Bug Out and many more thereafter.

I never had a VW "Bug" but i always thougt our European look wasnt good looking, i loved the US Style with the the typical US bumper or no bumper and the US headlights, the smaller back lights. The later VW Bug with the elephant foot backlights as we call it and the straight front lights are not so nice in my mind.

Like Ron Fleming said didn’t want to be tied down to what a club said it is cliquish thing they are all kind of the same in most clubs. All the cars look the same run the same have the same motors are boring, not a lot of flashiness. This was all fine in the 80s 90s actually in the 2000s. The only thing I see different is a street fighter series with Dave Ruiz vokstroke everything else is still pretty much the same . no new fresh blood no new ideas. Everything still has to stay the same and all the rules and all the clubs that was fine back then but things are different now and things are expensive. You want things the way you want them because they’re yours not because you belong in a club and you have to have a certain way that’s just too boring nowadays.
