Just bought this wonderful little camera in 2022. This is one of the most helpful videos on any camera that I have ever watched! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video.
Great video, each time I need a little refresher I refer back to this video. I don’t use this camera that often but when I do I still love it. I love the size and all the features it offers. I’m still discovering new things after 5 years of owning it. I’ve taken this camera on many trips and was grateful not to have to lug heavy lenses etc.
I just bought a Stylus because I wanted a small easy to tote and shoot camera. This video is a perfect tutorial. The Olympus marketing folks would be smart to pay you for producing such a professional tutorials presenting the all the obvious and not so obvious features and controls. Thanks for accelerating my learning curve with my new camera.
Wonderful demonstration - the best I've found on this camera. Thank you so much! As for the person who complains there is no HDMI, he should pay attention - you talk about it three times and point it out on the side of the camera.
I bought my Stylus 1 yesterday and was at a complete loss...until I watched your video! You were such a big help and I feel I can go out today and get started! I'm so used to using my 70D and trying to understand the Olympus Stylus 1 user manual was near to impossible! Thank you
Kelly Harris Dear Kelly... please... let me know if you can use zoom control when you connectec in remote mode... In fact, this is the only point why i have not bought this camera yet, and i dont find any video about it
Thank you so much for this great video. I just bought one and your knowledge is extremely helpfull to understand the camera. (Your English is very impressive too :-))
Just got the Stylus 1S on huge discount and this tutorial is still up to date :) Thank you so much, I needed this fast tutorial, I'm taking off in two weeks!
I bought the stylus because the salesman convinced me, nearly cried when I got home as I had no idea how to use it, I'm used to other brands. After this great tutorial I feel confident in using its settings and many functions. African animals here I come....Thanks++
Great tutorial. I have just received a Stylus 1S and have played a little bit with it. Unfortunately, not every in the manual was clear to me - menu navigation. Your tutorial cleared a lot of fog. Great thanks!
Very informative and in depth. I was nearly sold on this model and then I remembered the last Olympus I had which had horrible motor noise on the zoom when you playback video. It was so bad I returned the camera. Just seen an example of the Oympus Stylus with zoom sample and the sound is even worse because the microphone level dips. You'd think Olympus would have sorted this by now other camera manufacuters have. Such a shame. This look like an amazing camera.....for photos.
Thanks - I've had Stylus 1 for 6 months - bought slightly used on eBay. Thought it was defective - after watching and checking all settings it is working great. Is perfect camera for my needs - big viewfinder good zoom. Do need keep the iso low. I was having trouble with flash - not sure what setting fixed it Also I never knew how to set up bracketing. Thanks
Excellent review. I have one question, please: Can you set the ring to control the aperture and the upper dial to control shutter speed? It¿s how it's always been, i don't know why they switched it. Thanks!
22:30 - 24:20 marks the first time I have ever seen Ralf baffled by a camera function. I can’t blame him, this is just one frustration of the Olympus menu system!
Great review as always Ralf. Thanks. Very helpful info - I have been debating to update my Sony RX100 to RX100m2 - my RX100 is still very nice and practical. Of course the Stylus offers few things that are attractive - Touch to focus and Shoot - a real nice viewfinder - a real nice focal length of 28-300 - and a fast lens at constant F2.8 vs the RX100 at 1.8-4.9 - I find the RX100 is very quick at 3.5 and 4.9 just about only 28mm at F1.8 so the advantage of the larger sensor diminishes quick. So not it is a toss between the RX100m2 or Panasonic GM1 or Stylus 1 - but then I hear that a Fuji X30 is coming in late Jan or Feb. I do have the Fuji X20 and love it - it has a fast lens at F2.0-F2.8 and some rumor said that the sensor in X30 will be larger and most likely a 1 inch sensor - I suspect that the Stylus 1 and GM1 will offer most functions - not sure if Panasonic will make more smaller lenses like the kit so the GM1 is on hold - just think that the GM1 is to small for some of the M43 lenses but kit lens size is great - Still think that GM1 has the best menu and options with so many Fn buttons etc. I do feel though that the viewfinder is a bit large - makes it harder to pocket the camera in a jacket - I was fine with the viewfinder in the Fuji X20 as with such a small camera one uses the LCD primarily and viewfinder just for those very sunny days so I would have preferred a less fancy viewfinder but smaller - Panasonic LF1 proves that they can put a small ELVF that is good enough and very small. I suspect the sensor in the Stylus 1 is made by Sony and is back lit for better ISO. quite a bit smaller sensor compared with RX100m2 So a question. How is the IQ compared with the RX100m2 ?
The IQ is a little bit under the RX100MII but still very good. I depends what you want to do with your pictures. For normal "use" the Stylus 1 offers a real good IQ and is a very good camera stuffed with all important functions. I think by now it's the best "over-all" compactcamera. If you want to see testpictures go on my Flickr-Account: www.flickr.com/photos/ralfs-foto-bude/sets/72157638794720004/
Thank you for such a well done video! It is a pity they are so scharfe second hand here in South Africa. They sell for about €360. Fir how much do the sell in Europe? Thank you Johann Mendelsöhn
Good Afternoon Ralf. I think your pictures are fantastic. I bought the Stylis 1S and cannot get any picture a sharp and clear, My pics are very pixelated at higher magnification. Could you please advise my of the correct or better settings i.e. RAW or NL etc. Your help would be appreciated . kind regards Reuben
Dear Ralfs... very nice and practical video. I have one point... In every video i have seen, the wifi remote through smartphone.... no one have used zoom. However when i see the oficial video of STYLUS 1S (not stylus 1)... there one could see the zoom control with smartphone. My question is:: Is it possibile to use zoom in stylus 1 in wifi control?
Ralf mate I never comment on TH-cam. But big thank you I'm a proper noob at photography and really trying to learn.. it's not easy but I'm picking it up these tips are brilliant thank you ! This video is really helpful! I was struggling to adjust the focus but problem solved thanks to you!
Excellent review Ralf, I ordered the Stylus 1s after viewing this trutorial. Thank you for sharing my friend.

You're right. For photos perfect, for video not the best you can get. Talking video Sony and Panasonic do a better job.
Ralfs Foto-Bude What are your (Sony/Panasonic) recommendations for video/photo? Do you have a video on that?
Thanks - I've had Stylus 1 for 6 months - bought slightly used on eBay. Thought it was defective - after watching and checking all settings it is working great. would you recommend a seller? Im looking for a seller myself but I worry it would be a scam
