bonking is like a car running out of fuel, it does'nt matter if its a top of the range super car or a family hatch, it will stop.
its the same with the human body, super athlete or club cyclist, no fuel no go.

It's amazing that Armstrong didn't lose more time than 1 min 30, this is a testament to Lance's courage and spirit and Johan Bruyneel's tactical pacing. I can see why Bruyneel is so strongly against a radio ban.

The amazing thing about this climb is that Armstrong bonking up the Joux Plane was still 32 seconds faster than Floyd Landis’ superhero impersonation up this same col in 2006, according to chronoswatts

Even without EPO they're still the fittest athletes in the World. There are more dope tests in cycling, perhaps if other sports had the same stringent tests then more would be caught, but I repeat they're still the fittest. Have you ever raced a bike? I doubt it

Rasmussen didnt use doping. He was knock out because of disciplinarry mistake, that he didnt tell UCI where he was training in mid-june. And then just one man spoke that he was training in Dolomiti-Alps in Italy not in Mexico and everyone believed in it and that is why he was knock out of his team and Tour.

You need ATLEAST a 98 VO2 max on the bike in order to win the Tour de France for SURE. You need to hold about 6.5 watts/kilo for 1-hour all out Funtional threshold power.
For Lance, fully-doped he must be at 470 watts or so for an hour strait.
Totally clean he has no better than 370... 5.1 at best un-doped. There are lots of guys that can get that!

  • @mustardjunkie
    @mustardjunkie 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Did I talk about VO2 max on this vid?
Lance was tested MANY times during his career. 62, 71, 81.2 was the ranges trained-fully trained and un-doped. He was tested several times in late 1999 and the highest he could get (like picking your highest golf score) was 81.2.
Lance's competely un-doped VO2 max potential is probably 78-80 and its less now for sure.

I can sustain that power as a 180 lb cyclist and can spike many more watts than lance..uh.. briefly. I cannot sustain that for as long as he does. If i did id be in the pro peloton and would be in contention for Major tours. What he does is Astronomical. The requirement on the human body to do that is "unbelieveable". I have no doubt that he is the best athletes in the world.

She had the same empty denials as Lance, "never tested positive." She got tested MORE than lance. She had 165 passed tests before she admitted.

I'm glad they're making progress against doping, but I know for a fact that while EPO use is down, even the American women's circuit has a large number of riders who take estrogen blocker and hormone therapy. Even with all the doping, it's still the best sport in the world....next to hockey

@Srbabiruso To be honest I would be suprised if he had cheated , only because of the number of times he was tested and was found to be clean. I just find it incredible that if he was doping how did he get away with it. One athlete could not get away with it for that length of time and never get caught in my opinion. Also consider this, he never once failed to give a sample for testing when required unlike other top athletes I could mention.

Lance Armstrong is a superb athlete, simple. But one thing that gets me is the way he throws money at lawyers to cloud the issue, and undermine everyone and anyone who casts doubt on his reputation. Innocent men don't throw millions of dollars at greedy fuckin lawyers. That's what rich, egotistical bullies who think they can buy their way out of any problem do.
    That's my problem with Armstrong.

@bampie1 give me a break. Floyd Landis admitted using PEDs and only got "caught" after 2006. He started using once he joined postal and he was tested god so many times as well. It's the same tune with every other rider who has been "caught"; they were users for years and years. There's ways to cheat around ANY test given time after time the same way.

5.5 hours in the lead pack in a TdF mountain stage at 160 pounds... Probably normalized at around 320 watts atleast!
Someone can sustain like 90% of 1-hour power for like 5 hours though. So technically, someone with an FTP of 350 or so at 160 pounds could keep up for the whole thing until the last climb obviously. Thats if they used the whole road on the decents though! I mean, really risky stuff in the corners to catch back up after being dropped on every climb...

@seanreid1970 Well it doesn't make him any less a cheater. Everybody was cheating. The sport was/is diseased. What amazes me is that some people are able to convince themselves that Lance was totally clean the entire time he was dominating the best cyclists in the world who happened to be sticking a needles in their asses every 5 minutes. If there was no such thing as doping then Lance's achievements would be incredible. But in light of all the revelations, it downright impossible.
