You are not alone. However, with the electoral college, people in some states know that their vote really does't matter. Coming from one of those states, that "don't count", it's really hard to convince some family members to participate. I sure hope we can move to a different voting system soon so all votes matter!

My generation was required to pass Civics class to graduate 8th grade. My teacher had us reenact the signing of the Constitution to help us deeply process the issues. It was the best piece of education I have ever had and I went onto a Masters Degree.
