Ah, that makes sense - we have missed you very much on our channel! Going to catch up with each comment now, but this one is important. First off, all the best for surgery! It sounds like a spider prosthetic surgery, which Ché's mom had a couple of years ago. It has definitely restored much function, if not all her range (she has St Joseph's disease). We love the idea, and we will get on it in the next few days. It is an important video that definitely needs to be made. Ché works around a buggy knee, I have dodgy hips - it's something we have lived with for a long time! We really are delighted to hear from you, Sirius. All the best, from all the way here 🙇🏻♀️
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre, thanks for your kind words. The procedure will involve implanting two Mobi-C devices. I'm looking forward to it. My ailments are from an old whiplash injury about 20 years ago and a hard physical life in between. Eventually, arthritis and such progressed to the point where surgery is needed. If there's one thing I've learnt from physical therapy, is that the body does all manner of things to compensate for old injuries. It's a natural mechanism to retain as much function as possible. I can see karate techniques adapting in a similar fashion when needed. I look forward to the next video!
The body definitely finds a way! Glad that you are able to get surgery, and really hoping it will improve your quality of life. No one should have to live in any kind of pain, and hopefully your karate will continue, perhaps not the same, but still moving, like a stream moving around the rocks.
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre, thank you! Yes, I have full intention of continuing karate, though not exactly the same, "but still moving, like a stream moving around the rocks." (I absolutely love the visual this statement conjures up!)
Please do the pulling exercises - I remember being told frequently that Goju Ryu has a lot of pulling, grasping and tearing techniques and it would be great to see them demonstrated - hand and foot techniques both!
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre Good Morning, There is a virtually unknown elbow strike that might interest you. We call it the "Newton" after Wayne Newton who was hit with it in the movie: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_of_the_Best_II The tall bad guy [Newton] grabs you from behind conveniently leaving your arms free. Throw a circular right elbow strike over your right shoulder and strike him in the head. :-) Be of good cheer, Terry.
Always very interesting. I found it particularly interesting for the hammerfist movements. This is not something we practice in my dojo, with the exception of the hammerfist movements in Saifa, obviously. If you have already posted the video with sweeps and related techniques maybe you could add it in the description section? Many thanks.
Funnily enough, we actually have done scattered sweeps throughout all our bunkai videos, but nothing actually dedicated to sweeps and throws, yet. We're putting our mats back down in a couple of weeks, and we plan to film a lot of stuff on ground work, throws and sweeps. Please watch this space!
Truly, our styles have more in common than in difference - we love to hear from our friends in other schools! Karate is karate, at the end of it all. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment, especially on one of our old, early videos :)
A well presented account of blocks and strikes Che Sensei. Advanced practitioners should also consider that blocks can also represent strikes. When arms are conditioned thoroughly , they can be used to potentially injure the opponent with the power of the block. Also, the legs can be used to intercept, or block attacks.
A well-conditioned arm really does have excellent stopping power - having done ude tanden for years, I can attest to that! I think we'll build the leg blocks into the ashi berai video - definitely worth discussing 🙇🏻♀️ - Zoe
Nice! It is so interesting just to watch these videos of Che. Back hand Uraken strikes middle and lower with fists together - that's a format from certain lineage of Goju-Ryu dojos....my Sensei used to do that so I assume maybe Goju-kai or Jundokan?.....the circular lower blocks - another lineage, also now, in IOGKF - the almost straight-line-reverse shuto to the temple----again emphasis of that from another source I can't remember now, but certainly came across that.....I'm counting so many different Goju lineages and influences in one video.
Aaaaah, we were wondering! This makes more sense now - we thought it was uncanny that two Matthews could be so astute on such arcane matters of Goju! Naifunchin is a great look at Ché's past career, and now his Naifunchin (in my opinion) is a time capsule because he no longer receives active instruction for this kata. Good to hear from you again! We always look forward to it 🙇🏻♀️
Dear, which techniques are much more acceptable upon the ground of reality while at the front of guy who uses the knife to have to strike on the upper chest of the body indiscriminately!!! Either anyone block it or just thrust it against that force surprisingly. waiting for your valuable suggestion and demonstration effectively. Thank you.
Sumayya!! So so happy to hear from you ❤️ we miss you, and really hope you can come back soon. We've got some new covid-safe games, and we're trying hard to make the dojo a bright and happy place in these hard times. Please take care - we miss you 💮
Hi, Ché has learned karate from many instructors over the last 40 years. His current instructors are from OGKK Okinawa, but growing up he studied under Sensei Paul Andre and Aubrey Pieterse, as well as Sensei Chinen and with Sensei Higaonna when he was young. Hope this helps!

A smaller haito - less telegraphing, and fitting in with the general OGKK rule to keep techniques within the frame of the body :)
