I wonder what my father would think of the new technology. He ran about 500 acres with a single row harvester, Case DCS tractors and hand dropped plant cane. The rows were opened up with a telephone pole dragged behind the plows. Admittedly this was about 70 years ago. I helped with the burning - what seven year old doesn’t love to play with fire? This was around New Iberia.
Yea, my Great Grandfather used to farm sugarcane in Thibodaux.. He used to think equipment was getting too big back in the 70's lol. He'd really freak out if he saw what they were using today lol.. Some of my best childhood memories were from playing in the cane fields during grinding.. Probably a big part of why I love making these videos.
How are those 'Cameco' cutters, steered? I know they have a single rear wheel - but that looks to wander anywhere, so I presume the front ones do it and judging by the speed by which they can turn I would think it is by braking one wheel or the other. Is it like a 'crawler tractor' - one lever for each side, - (or something similar), - as I can't see any sign of a steering wheel.
There's a steering wheel, but yes they can lock the front tires and turn on a dime. Check out my other video from inside the cab of a Cameco cutter:th-cam.com/video/socDp3E4IeY/w-d-xo.html
@@AerialAg That’s to bad the notification doesn’t always work! But you often post them on Facebook as well but this one slipped between the cracks so to speak!
Mesmerizing, so whats the ratio? ie. 1 meter of seed cane to 2 or 3 meter of harvest cane. also wondered how it was incorporated back into the furrows. friend tried cane farming in Australia and he sent photos of burning the dead leaves out of the standing crop, looked terrifying.
Early in August, one acre will plant 3-4 acres. About now, one acre will plant 5-6 acres. If you hand plant with a little lower rate, you can plant 8-9 acres from a single acre.

I used to operate with my father loaders.3M, Thompson, this john deer look faster...I wonder how many stiff to operate the arm have...I love 1 stiff. It's faster.

The trailers are cane planters. Sugar cane does not grow from seeds, it grows from the joints of cane stalks. So every year before harvest the cut and plant "seed cane".
Thanks for your videos. On here you. See. more about other country's farmers. I like yours because I live in this state. And prefer to watch local farmers. And I have never heard of that Farmer where are the located at? 👍

Back in the 40s and 50s when my grandfather was growing up they had a Thompson cane cutter.
I think its a waist of time picking up more leaves than the sugarcanes and they can use the one which cut and loads straight in the tractor

Really awesome cutting and loading!
How many acres will an acre of seed cane plant?

So....what's the purpose of the trailers and why are they laying out the cane in the other field? The loader machine seems a slow way of doing things?
The trailers are cane planters. Sugar cane does not grow from seeds, it grows from the joints of cane stalks. So every year before harvest the cut and plant "seed cane".
