Some people can't escape their past. I don't imagine there are too many licensed therapists specializing in helping people who witness traumatic events in the world so I'm not sure why everyone upset with Ellie's choices. She's also like in her early 20s right? The stage of life where people are typically still driven by stupid impulses.
Yeah, and Abby gets to ride into the sunset with the kid. Ellie lets her go and doesn't get her revenge, but abby who did get her revenge has a happy ending. How does that make any fucking sense?
The saddest part of the ending is when she still has the guitar, the only precious thing that stayed with her, but couldn't play it coz she lost two fingers, which made her feel more alone now
She had a peaceful look on her face at the end though. I think she was just letting Joel go by leaving the guitar. She had left her guilt and revenge behind with it.

Damn. Joel got completely shit on in this game. He's not playable. Saves Ellie's life in the hospital and gets blamed and killed for it. He saves Abby and offers to resupply her group only to get brutalized by them. Gets scolded by Ellie for defending her against the homophobe guy at the party and for saving her life at the hospital. Jesus.
They even fucked Joel and Tommy's characters in this game. Yeah sure these two hardened badasses who survived for 30 years in an apocalypse just tell their names and where they live to a bunch of armed strangers knowing that Joel is being hunted for crossing many people. Joel didn't even have the survival instinct to lie about his last name when Abby says it out loud. The writers are so braindead they have to fuck up Joel's character traits to get him killed.
It was stupid how Ellie's immunity didnt play a huge part in the story. I thought Joel would have to deal with the repercussions of killing Marlene and talking ellie from the Fire flies. I feel like it the game would be better if the plot was: 10 years later when Ellie is a young adult, the town gets raided. Tommy, his wife and, Ellie's 'significant other' get killed by the FF's. Joel dealing with the grief tells Ellie and the whole game is about joel protecting Ellie from their pursuers while dealing with the conflict between themselves. Joel and ellie end up hearing about a place that has figured out a cure, with the need of somebody who is immune (without harming them) Heres the twist though , Ellie (bisexual, for you inclusive folks) finds out she got pregnant from her significant other. Joel dies making sure Ellie lives so she can have a family ensuring humanity has a better chance of curing the world through her children. A bitter sweet ending.
fr fr that is how I thought it would play out. Except with the Ellie having kids thing. I thought she would tell Joel that she was ready to die. Maybe have a third game because when they killed Ellie, they never found a cure. So it would be Joel’s kids (he settles down with some woman his age and got married, after accepting Ellie’s death.) They kinda would have been cool in my opinion.
@@MyUniqueHandle. Technically Joel did have repercussions for what happened in that hospital, but it wasn't from the fireflies, it was more from the she-hulk. However, it would have been cool if the part 2 storyline centered around the ending of part 1. Have an aftermath of maybe fireflies taking revenge at Jacksonville and possibly trying to capture Ellie. Hell, you can even have she-hulk be one of the main lieutenants in the firefly army. Come to think of it, even in the flashbacks, you can see that Ellie and Joel move on with their lifes and build their new home in Jackson without any trouble. What a wasted potential for a sequel.

@its luxx Of course it does. But there is a strong possibility that Ellie is going to “fight” to get her family back. During ’The farm’, Ellie clearly had a deep bond with both her son, JJ, and her Gf/wife, Dina. I can’t imagine Ellie giving up on them. They are her family.
The Last of Us 3 should be about Bill from TLoU 1 finding out about Joel's death and going on a rampage to kill Abby and... wait for it... actually kills her.

Abby's revenge was well-deserved, Ellie's wasn't. I think that's why the story ended the way it did. Joel placed his wants before the needs of others when he killed people, Abby was more merciful when she spared Ellie who constantly repaid Abby by killing her friends and even threatening to kill innocent people she knew Abby cared about.

Ellie and Abby are the same person. They both wanted revenge for their father or father figure's death. They both waged revenge. They both lost everyone they cared about. They were both crippled by their vengeance. They both tried to kill each other and let the other live. They both were involved in love triangles. Both love triangles involved a pregnant woman. They both ran patrols for their homes. They were both outdoorsie kids with high expectations. They both wanted Ellie to die for a cure. And in the end, both were left searching for home in an uncertain future.
Finally someone that uses more than 2 brain cells thinking about the story instead of complaining that their wholesome100 doctor-killing Joel got his head caved in.
Hue Wong How is it lacklustre? It was perfect. It illustrated how Ellie forgave Abby and in doing so forgave Joel. At the end, she lets go of Joel and has peace with her inner conflict. Truly a beautiful ending.

Didn’t that happen in the first game, they go to find fireflies to create vaccine, they don’t, Joel and Ellie walk into the sunset. Nothing is achieved but Ellie gains a dad and a home with a community. However here Ellie loses everything, fitting with the themes of the game. It isn’t the end of her story so it makes sense that this would break her down and the next will be less bleak and depressing.

She wouldnt have been good with Dina with the ptsd. Tommy's wife couldn't take his ptsd and left him too. Very very depressing ending but maybe it was the only way to clear her head and get her skin to quit burning.

Edward Jacobus the end Joel wasn’t really a good person. He did a lot for Ellie in the end but you could argue it was because he was substituting her for his daughter and didn’t want that loss twice. The game definitely has issues with the story but the main plot points make sense. Joel’s death made sense. The inclusion of Abby to mirror the story Ellie and Joel had made sense. Ellie deciding not to kill Abby (which I like to think is because she saw her saving Lev and understood what Joel did more) also made sense. My biggest gripe is actually the order everything is presented. By the time you start playing as Abby you’ve seen a lot of what happens to her. Would have been better to swap earlier on and get attached to her friends before you watch them die. In the end it wasn’t Joel decision to make Ellie would have wanted to die for a cure even its a slim chance. Joel made a selfish decision that only benefited himself he was not a good person and deserved to go out the way he did. Karma came to cash in on joel. He even admitted in the first game he’s been on both sides of the ambush he’s killed innocent people to the point his brother wanted nothing to do with him.

At the end everyone is alone, everyone lost everything due to blind hatred and hunger for revenge. The part where Joel says "I would do it all over again" is so pure and full of love. The story is..........there's a lot of hatred towards the game, but there's a lot we can learn from it. Abby was a monster, twistes by pain and anger, Ellie was too, if she killed Abby she would be no different than a beast. Ellie has a heart. Killing Abby won't bring Joel back, it won't bring peace to her soul. When Ellie left the guitar it broke my heart, but inner peace means moving on, there's sadness in her eyes. She realised she had to let go. The best she could do for Joel is remember him for the great person and a father he was and find the strenght to forgive him.

If anything, Part 3 should be a battle between ideologies. Abby tasked with capturing Ellie to manufacture the cure and Ellie fighting them off and refusing.
If they had only had you start as Abby and actually bond with her character before she brutally murders the first game's protagonist, this would have been a great story had they just done that. Seriously, how did they expect people to empathize with her when our introduction to her is her beating joel to death with a golf club after he saves her life? People are not blindly hating this game, there is some very valid criticism to some really bad writing.

When a company (sony or Naughty dog) gives money for a 10/10 reviews like for example to ign.shows that they arent in the capacity to get it fair and square.
To be honest, I didn’t want to kill Abby at the end of the game though I still found myself mashing square to do so. To end Ellie’s suffering mostly. Despite Joel’s poorly written death, I found myself empathising more and more with Abby but never to the point where I would’ve ‘rooted’ for her. Seeing her hung up though, on the pillars, having had all her friends killed, refusing to fight and having become almost a mother/big sister to Lev, my feeling was that she’d suffered enough. Ellie brought the suffering upon herself and so did Abby. The ending, I felt, was justified. It was not a perfect game at all, but an emotionally traumatic one that I played with an open mind. Many will disagree, but that’s the beauty of games/films/music.
I did end up rooting for Abby I feel you man on the open mind thing , but I felt like Abby was the game instead of Ellie .. Abby's story got more interesting and Elie's was all about Dina witch I think Dina ruined the game in my opinion ...

Oh come on, I ordered one Ellie edition and a collector's edition and ended up returning them. Can't believe this is a game I have been waiting for 7 years, especially the ending.
As someone with PTSD, I really liked the ending of this game. This is just my opinion, but for me - At the end Ellie was suffering with PTSD, obviously - not sleeping, not eating, the flashbacks, the going off by herself into the woods, and the feeling she HAD to go after abby - is realistic to me. it's difficult to describe anyone without it, but PTSD can often feel like you are physically trapped with no way out of your own reality. That your whole life is closing on you. That the past is forever there, suffocating you. Obviously you relive it through flashbacks, but it's more than that. When Ellie said she had to go after abby, it was because she felt she had to not because she wanted to - She wanted to stay with her new family, but she had to stop her brain reliving the traumatic past again and again. She had to escape the trap, and she felt the only way was to kill abby - the person who really made her feel trapped to begin with. but I think she knew, deep down, it wouldn't help her escape. but hey, desperate times, amiright? When ellie finally confronted abby, what were her words? "I cant let you leave" She could have said anything else "I won't let you leave" or "I'm going to kill you". Those would be words from someone confident, someone making the rules. but she didn't. those words "I can't let you leave" were very specific. they're words from someone not in control - someone who feels they didnt make the decision. A soldier following orders would say "I can't let you leave" or someone feeling like they had no choice in the matter, someone trapped - like ellie. At the very end ellie didnt have to kill Abby. When she was on the verge of killing abby, when abby couldnt fight back and was about to drown, Ellie had basically won at that point. it didnt even matter if abby lived or died past that point, as there was nothing abby could have done to change the outcome, and ellie realized that she probably has "won". And it didn't help. There was no opening of the trap, it didnt fix anything so she let abby go and she wept. still trapped. It wasnt until she came back, sat alone with guitar she could no longer play, and thought about joel and forgiveness that, maybe, she realized that the only way out of the trap was to forgive mistakes of the past. forgive yourself for not being able to change the past. forgive others for being human. I dunno. maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, see what makes sense to me. But still, I like the ending. People complain about the ending, saying ellie didn't get her revenge against abby. but they miss the fact that everything after the farmhouse - Ellie isnt going for revenge. Shes going because she feels like she has to, to try to fix herself.
The scene where Ellie can’t play the song Joel taught her because of the missing fingers was the saddest part. But she can definitely teach herself to do it with the left

And a game or a media in general is not about going for what the fans feel but trying to surprise them but at the same time building it up in a believable way. And if you're gonna say he was out of character to say the names. 1) they were said by Tommy 2) they had no other choice but to go with them.
Axel /Lea Joel’s death was definitely not justified. The fireflies were going to kill Ellie out right for just a chance to get a cure. Not even a guaranteed thing. Also if you listen to the audio files in the facility, they failed with all there experiments. Joel saved an innocent girl from dying from deranged scientists who where hell bent on trying anything even without trying any other way before going straight to killing her.

Honestly even the last fight didn’t have much dialogue, it didn’t feel like a powerful or emotional fight too, just “hey time to kill this bitch cause Joel died” there could’ve been very deep dialogues between the two right here at the end, and like literally it would make more sense if they said something to each other and that made Ellie realized that killing her won’t change anything, and that Abby is at a pathetic state anyways.
Such a shallow minded way to look at it... she learned to let go and move on. She finally broke the cycle of violence. Ellie wouldn't have killed lev, and lev would have come back to kill ellie. She learned to let go of revenge and attempt to find some level of piece. Killing abby wouldn't have solved anything
the whole quest wasn’t for nothing. ellie realized that revenge solves nothing. she broke the cycle of violence. when she leaves the guitar behind, she’s leaving her old life behind that was filled with hate, and finally putting joel’s soul to rest. it’s sad how some people are only looking at this game from the surface, and not from within.
The ending was one of the most powerful endings in a video game. The game isnt about revenge is bad only. Its about Ellie finally going to find closure to her journey. Its about forgiveness and humanity. Its about ellie's emotions and feelings and not the player's. Its about finally finding her peace through all the guilt she has carried in all these years to herself and joel's. She finally found peace by letting abby go, that means forgiving joel and moving on. You got to look at it from ellie's shoes. Not yours.

Here’s my take on it. The flashback to Joel when Ellie was about to kill Abby is the key to the whole ending. The flashback was about Ellie confronting Joel and her stating that he took something from her(taking her away from the hospital so she couldn’t save humanity) which was unforgivable. But, at the end, she stated “I would like to try.” The important aspect is the timeline of events. This talk between Joel and Ellie took place the night before his death. Remember at the beginning of the game she was talking with Jesse about the party the night before? Thus, Ellie never really began her forgiveness of Joel, and then he was killed by Abby that day. However, right when she was going to kill Abby, she thought of that last talk with Joel, and so she decided to honor Joel’s memory by actually doing what she said she’d do for Joel but couldn’t, forgiving the unforgivable, by letting Abby and Lev live. And now, she can finally move on... I think that story and ending was actually pretty clever by naughty dog, cheers to them for a solid game.
Dude that explanation makes so much sense and it makes everything hurt even more, people complaining wanted an action movie with Joel and Ellie but what they got is a complex story about revenge, ptsd, and forgiveness. What you experience in this game is real human emotions and flaws some i don't think I've ever played something that explores those things in such a hauntingly beautiful ways. Thank you naughty dawg for another fucking masterpiece.
I actually got an article who gave the game a 10/10 and talks in detail of why she did. Too bad it is in Italian,and so it's unlikely that it is that understandable to foreigners.

Okay let me explain. Abby ignored Ellie and gives up vengeance because it's only caused her pain, while Ellie hasn't. And Ellie realizes while killing Abby how similar their situation is. Ellie remembers how sad she was when Joel died, and how much Abby and Lev are like Ellie and Joel, and realized that she couldn't do that to someone else. She too realizes that revenge has only caused her pain, and she decides to give up. She did the right thing

@@sabastjanadams1829 Stop romanticizing revenge stories like it's a good thing, the entire point of TLOU2 was how revenge begets a cycle of violence and if you continue to be stuck within it you will lose everything. And John Wick is purely just a power fantasy character anyway. But to argue with your point, John Wick in the first movie was someone who lost his wife, with their last connection being the dog she gave him. The dog gets killed and at that point he basically lost everything he held near and dear to, so he goes on a killing spree purely out of hate and spite. And following the events of the movies, you can see the consequences of him killing the guy who killed his dog, he's constantly being hunted and on the run, nothing gets solved with him killing the dude and it just created more problems for Wick. Ellie on the other hand in TLOU2 was someone who was in a loving community, with a decent life of relative ease, she has a love interest, good friends and a loving father that she unfortunately was resenting at the time. She lost him to one of the people he crossed in the past, this was inevitable, his karma and shadow would eventually catch up to him. Now whether or not his death could have been written better is up for debate, personally I had no problems with it aside from the emotional distress it caused me. But her being so trapped in her guilt of not being able to save Joel and how she didn't try to mend things earlier, instead spending 1-2 years resenting him for what he did. It caused her go down the path of destruction and she started to lose everything she cared for, and she was trapped in the cycle of violence that was started by Joel because he chose to save her. At the end when she was about to kill Abby, she has a flashback about the night before Joel's death where they talked about Ellie trying to forgive him for what he did. And this is exactly the point of the story of TLOU2, the theme of forgiveness and humanity, she chose to forgive Abby just as she started to forgive Joel, because killing her won't bring him back and she knows it, so she lets Abby go, because she also knows that killing her won't ease her pain and memories of Joel. People say that "Oh but Ellie kill hundreds of people during her time in Seattle but she spares Abby?". First of all, exaggeration, second of all, people somehow can't see through the point that the 3 days Ellie spent in Seattle was when she was obsessed with finding Abby, and strictly struck by anger, resentment and guilt. Ellie's story is her descent down to her own personal hell and by the end of the game she manages to free herself out of it, to fully start the path of healing. Even though John Wick kills the person who killed his dog, it didn't resolve the problem, instead it created more issues that he has to go through. That's the thing, you may not see it right away because he's so cool and he does cool moves, but what it did was made his life miserable now that he has a target on his back with countless people coming to kill him. At this point I'm more prone to believe that the people who say stuff like this never even played the game themselves, they watched a few videos that parrot the same talking point with no critical thinking involved, or they did play a portion of it, everything flew right over their head and they just go watch the ending scene and maybe see a few comments they agree with and then just go criticize the game even though they themselves don't understand the themes and symbolism.

This feels more like Abby's story then Joel and Ellie's story. What bothered me most was that they made you play as the person your trying to kill for half the game. I also didn't like Abby and never felt bad for her side of the story. Like who makes a story where everyone dies?
Javier Gomez thats the thing. You had a preconceived notion of what the game was to be. NEVER EVER DO THAT. Especially when its a studio as talented and creative as naughty dog. They don’t pull ANY punches with this game, which is why it is so fucking amazing and unique. It would’ve been terrible if it was just ellie and joel again. Not enough of an engagement to make an entire game over that storyline. Don’t get me wrong, I love Joel as much as you do, but I put my trust in the creators, and it payed off. I went into the game with no expectations, therefore i loved it. Anyone who goes into this game with certain expectations, is going to hate it.
Why does hate have to result in killing Abby. Ellie killed so many along the way and that fucks a person up. After losing everything she cared about, becoming someone she didn't recognize, Ellie had to let Abby go. Abby was a shell of a person when Ellie finally found her. There was no point, Ellie knew she wouldn't have gained anything, and Lev would have gone after her and the cycle of vengeance would begin anew. It had to end, and Ellie, by not killing Abby and letting go of her pain for Joel's brutal death put a stop to it. While I don't like Abby, she also lost everything she ever loved or cared about. Both of them deserve peace. That's the point of the game. Revenge solves absolutely nothing, causes more pain than good, and at some point - not matter the circumstances - you have to let it go. You have to walk away.
If I had to be honest, at least they could've have gone for forgiveness ending with Ellie accepting Joel death and follows along Abby after trying to fist fight for no absolute reason and release her. We still get this forgiveness but all those pointless fight, losing fingers, not even talking a damn about their past is absurd making this whole ending feels empty especially for Abby. This whole game is a crap and at least they could've gone for a goddamn typical ending to make the player feel better but no. Revenges fails, both Ellie and Abby didn't get to say a word about "I forgive you"(this word is really strong when used properly), Ellie left alone, Abby escape with Lev, Ellie couldn't play guitar due missing fingers. What the fuck is wrong with the one who write this script? As if Joel questionable choice and death, LGBT stuff, Dead of a pregnant person aren't enough to mess the series up.

The topic also brought that some party hate trans in the story hence they're said to the bad guys which definitely fit the sjw agenda. I didnt play the first part so I was kinda neutral with Abby and Ellie. Seems like a lot of people hate Abby but I disagree. Both Ellie and Abby killed a lot of friends of each other. So thats why im neutral. However the ending was honesty very disappointing. Just let Ellie be with Dina. That was a perfect ending. To just go after Abby was pointless and the final fist fight was even worse. It had literally nothing inside of that scene.
I don't like how ND did Ellie dirty. Abby got her revenge and she got a happy ending while Tommy and Ellie didn't... Tommy loses Maria for seeking revenge and justice while Ellie lost Dina, JJ, and her ability to play a guitar which was the last memory she had or the last piece of Joel. Which also leads her to her worst fear... *Ending up alone* The fact that she or they never did got the justice they deserve, and she only realised it when everything already fall down was just a wrong pace that NG did. She just realized that revenge was never the answer when she already lose Dina, JJ, Jesse, and her ability to play the last piece of Joel... Kinda messed up right? I just really wish that they never make the decision where Ellie loses her fingers. It's like losing her fingers means that she lost everything 1. Pinky finger represents as baby finger which is JJ 2. Ring finger which is where you put the wedding ring. And she lost her ring finger on the left side where the ring should be put. She lost love and marriage which is Dina And the last one: Her ability to play which is Joel
The ending was one of the most powerful endings in a video game. The game isnt about revenge is bad only. Its about Ellie finally going to find closure to her journey. Its about forgiveness and humanity. Its about ellie's emotions and feelings and not the player's. Its about finally finding her peace through all the guilt she has carried in all these years to herself and joel's. She finally found peace by letting abby go, that means forgiving joel and moving on. Look at it from ellie's perspective. Not yours.
The point was for none of them to have a happy ending.I realized the point of the story in their final fight. It just shows the cycle of revenge and where it gets you. Loved the ending to be honest.
It took me a little while to come to the same conclusion. I took a step back, looked at from a different perspective, and started to appreciate it a little bit more.
Everyone is butt hurt cause they didn't get the ending which they would've preferred. I personally loved the game and never wanted Ellie to go after Abby to take revenge, even when she did I am glad she didn't go through with it.
There's a short that freaking explains this better than the game and it only lasts 3 or 4 minutes, and it's free. I mean, this is meh, but Abby still deserved to be destroyed by Ellie.

Joel giving away his identity to a complete stranger is absolutely bad writing considering the conversation we witness him have at the very beginning with Tommy.
Tommy, who always seemed more trusting gave it away. Abby knew it, Joel was forced into having to go to Abby’s crew for safety. While Tommy is comfortable with the new group, you can clearly see how uneasy Joel is just being in the room. He hasn’t lost his untrustworthyness

I don’t like tlou2 because it kind of destroys everything the first game built up, I thought the second game would’ve been about Joel and Ellie forgiving eachother and making amends and forming a bond with Abby who later finds out Joel is her Dad’s killer near the end or in the third game would’ve made everything much more impactful instead we got a story simply written to subvert our expectations and for the sake of shock value

Also if you think about it Ellie and the team took out way more people than Abby's crew did (which arguably was justified to begin with). It's just a shame Abby didn't have a change of heart after Joel saved her (but then we'd have no story = No game to play LOL 😆). Great game. A little more sad/ depressing than I would've liked, but hey, whatcha gonna do 🤷♂️ Solid 8/10. Amazing job Naughty Dog!

Turns out, Joel was right because that injured person was indeed a bandit that wanted to hurt them. Joel also has a lot of trust issues in the first game as well. Joel knows that people would be after him in the end of the first game. You’re telling us that he would go into a place filled with strangers and tell his name. Yeah, that’s horrible writing and unbelievable to the character.

Ellie isn’t alone, both Abby and Ellie got a somewhat happy ending. Pay attention to detail. When she left for Santa Barbara she didn’t have Dina’s bracelet. When she came back to the farm and everything was gone, Dina’s bracelet was on her wrist. Plus, she didn’t have any visible weapons, neither was she limping from the wound on her stomach and her fingers looked cauterized. She visited Jackson and then went to the farm so she could leave her bad memories behind, hence her playing Joel’s guitar one final time before walking away from it (Leaving the bad memories she had with him behind.)

They even fucked Joel and Tommy's characters in this game. It was stupid how Ellie's immunity didnt play a huge part in the story. I thought Joel would have to deal with the repercussions of killing Marlene and talking ellie from the Fire flies.
I feel like it the game would be better if the plot was:
10 years later when Ellie is a young adult, the town gets raided. Tommy, his wife and, Ellie's 'significant other' get killed by the FF's. Joel dealing with the grief tells Ellie and the whole game is about joel protecting Ellie from their pursuers while dealing with the conflict between themselves. Joel and ellie end up hearing about a place that has figured out a cure, with the need of somebody who is immune (without harming them)
Heres the twist though , Ellie (bisexual, for you inclusive folks) finds out she got pregnant from her significant other. Joel dies making sure Ellie lives so she can have a family ensuring humanity has a better chance of curing the world through her children. A bitter sweet ending.

Maybe have a third game because when they killed Ellie, they never found a cure. So it would be Joel’s kids (he settles down with some woman his age and got married, after accepting Ellie’s death.) @@MyUniqueHandle. Technically Joel did have repercussions for what happened in that hospital, but it wasn't from the fireflies, it was more from the she-hulk. However, it would have been cool if the part 2 storyline centered around the ending of part 1. Have an aftermath of maybe fireflies taking revenge at Jacksonville and possibly trying to capture Ellie. Hell, you can even have she-hulk be one of the main lieutenants in the firefly army. Come to think of it, even in the flashbacks, you can see that Ellie and Joel move on with their lifes and build their new home in Jackson without any trouble. What a wasted potential for a sequel.

Abby's revenge was well-deserved, Ellie's wasn't. I think that's why the story ended the way it did. Joel placed his wants before the needs of others when he killed people, Abby was more merciful when she spared Ellie who constantly repaid Abby by killing her friends and even threatening to kill innocent people she knew Abby cared about.

They were both crippled by their vengeance. They both tried to kill each other and let the other live. They both were involved in love triangles. Both love triangles involved a pregnant woman. They both ran patrols for their homes. They were both outdoorsie kids with high expectations. They both wanted Ellie to die for a cure. And in the end, both were left searching for home in an uncertain future.
Finally someone that uses more than 2 brain cells thinking about the story instead of complaining that their wholesome100 doctor-killing Joel got his head caved in.

Didn’t that happen in the first game, they go to find fireflies to create vaccine, they don’t, Joel and Ellie walk into the sunset. Nothing is achieved but Ellie gains a dad and a home with a community. However here Ellie loses everything, fitting with the themes of the game. It isn’t the end of her story so it makes sense that this would break her down and the next will be less bleak and depressing.

Edward Jacobus the end Joel wasn’t really a good person. He did a lot for Ellie in the end but you could argue it was because he was substituting her for his daughter and didn’t want that loss twice.
The game definitely has issues with the story but the main plot points make sense. Joel’s death made sense. The inclusion of Abby to mirror the story Ellie and Joel had made sense. Ellie deciding not to kill Abby (which I like to think is because she saw her saving Lev and understood what Joel did more) also made sense.
My biggest gripe is actually the order everything is presented. By the time you start playing as Abby you’ve seen a lot of what happens to her. Would have been better to swap earlier on and get attached to her friends before you watch them die. In the end it wasn’t Joel decision to make Ellie would have wanted to die for a cure even its a slim chance. Joel made a selfish decision that only benefited himself he was not a good person and deserved to go out the way he did. Karma came to cash in on joel. He even admitted in the first game he’s been on both sides of the ambush he’s killed innocent people to the point his brother wanted nothing to do with him.

At the end everyone is alone, everyone lost everything due to blind hatred and hunger for revenge. The part where Joel says "I would do it all over again" is so pure and full of love. The story is..........there's a lot of hatred towards the game, but there's a lot we can learn from it. Abby was a monster, twistes by pain and anger, Ellie was too, if she killed Abby she would be no different than a beast. Ellie has a heart. Killing Abby won't bring Joel back, it won't bring peace to her soul. When Ellie left the guitar it broke my heart, but inner peace means moving on, there's sadness in her eyes. She realised she had to let go. The best she could do for Joel is remember him for the great person and a father he was and find the strenght to forgive him.
Everyone is alone? Ellie lost more than Abby? Joel’s fucked up death and her flashbacks. Did Abby have a similar image screwing her head with Owen? Mel? Manny? I don’t think so. If anything, Part 3 should be a battle between ideologies. Abby tasked with capturing Ellie to manufacture the cure and Ellie fighting them off and refusing.
If they had only had you start as Abby and actually bond with her character before she brutally murders the first game's protagonist, this would have been a great story had they just done that.
Seriously, how did they expect people to empathize with her when our introduction to her is her beating joel to death with a golf club after he saves her life?

Abby will die apparently. She got no food or shelter.
To be honest, I didn’t want to kill Abby at the end of the game though I still found myself mashing square to do so. To end Ellie’s suffering mostly. Despite Joel’s poorly written death, I found myself empathising more and more with Abby but never to the point where I would’ve ‘rooted’ for her. Seeing her hung up though, on the pillars, having had all her friends killed, refusing to fight and having become almost a mother/big sister to Lev, my feeling was that she’d suffered enough. Ellie brought the suffering upon herself and so did Abby. The ending, I felt, was justified. It was not a perfect game at all, but an emotionally traumatic one that I played with an open mind. Many will disagree, but that’s the beauty of games/films/music.
I did end up rooting for Abby I feel you man on the open mind thing , but I felt like Abby was the game instead of Ellie .. Abby's story got more interesting and Elie's was all about Dina witch I think Dina ruined the game in my opinion ...

As someone with PTSD, I really liked the ending of this game. This is just my opinion, but for me - At the end Ellie was suffering with PTSD, obviously
- not sleeping, not eating, the flashbacks, the going off by herself into the woods, and the feeling she HAD to go after abby - is realistic to me. it's difficult to describe anyone without it, but PTSD can often feel like you are physically trapped with no way out of your own reality. That your whole life is closing on you. That the past is forever there, suffocating you. Obviously you relive it through flashbacks, but it's more than that.
When Ellie said she had to go after abby, it was because she felt she had to not because she wanted to - She wanted to stay with her new family, but she had to stop her brain reliving the traumatic past again and again. She had to escape the trap, and she felt the only way was to kill abby - the person who really made her feel trapped to begin with. but I think she knew, deep down, it wouldn't help her escape. but hey, desperate times, amiright?
When ellie finally confronted abby, what were her words? "I cant let you leave" She could have said anything else "I won't let you leave" or "I'm going to kill you". Those would be words from someone confident, someone making the rules. but she didn't. those words "I can't let you leave" were very specific. they're words from someone not in control - someone who feels they didnt make the decision. A soldier following orders would say "I can't let you leave" or someone feeling like they had no choice in the matter, someone trapped -
like ellie.
At the very end ellie didnt have to kill Abby. When she was on the verge of killing abby, when abby couldnt fight back and was about to drown, Ellie had basically won at that point. it didnt even matter if abby lived or died past that point, as there was nothing abby could have done to change the outcome, and ellie realized that she probably has "won". And it didn't help. There was no opening of the trap, it didnt fix anything so she let abby go and she wept. still trapped.
It wasnt until she came back, sat alone with guitar she could no longer play, and thought about joel and forgiveness that, maybe, she realized that the only way out of the trap was to forgive mistakes of the past. forgive yourself for not being able to change the past. forgive others for being human.
I dunno. maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, see what makes sense to me. But still, I like the ending. People complain about the ending, saying ellie didn't get her revenge against abby. but they miss the fact that everything after the farmhouse - Ellie isnt going for revenge. Shes going because she feels like she has to, to try to fix herself.

Joel saved an innocent girl from dying from deranged scientists who where hell bent on trying anything even without trying any other way before going straight to killing her.

Honestly even the last fight didn’t have much dialogue, it didn’t feel like a powerful or emotional fight too, just “hey time to kill this bitch cause Joel died” there could’ve been very deep dialogues between the two right here at the end, and like literally it would make more sense if they said something to each other and that made Ellie realized that killing her won’t change anything, and that Abby is at a pathetic state anyways.

The ending was one of the most powerful endings in a video game. The game isnt about revenge is bad only. Its about Ellie finally going to find closure to her journey. Its about forgiveness and humanity. Its about ellie's emotions and feelings and not the player's. Its about finally finding her peace through all the guilt she has carried in all these years to herself and joel's. She finally found peace by letting abby go, that means forgiving joel and moving on. You got to look at it from ellie's shoes. Not yours.

Here’s my take on it. The flashback to Joel when Ellie was about to kill Abby is the key to the whole ending. The flashback was about Ellie confronting Joel and her stating that he took something from her(taking her away from the hospital so she couldn’t save humanity) which was unforgivable. But, at the end, she stated “I would like to try.”
The important aspect is the timeline of events. This talk between Joel and Ellie took place the night before his death. Remember at the beginning of the game she was talking with Jesse about the party the night before?
Thus, Ellie never really began her forgiveness of Joel, and then he was killed by Abby that day.
However, right when she was going to kill Abby, she thought of that last talk with Joel, and so she decided to honor Joel’s memory by actually doing what she said she’d do for Joel but couldn’t, forgiving the unforgivable, by letting Abby and Lev live.
And now, she can finally move on...
I think that story and ending was actually pretty clever by naughty dog, cheers to them for a solid game.

Okay let me explain. Abby ignored Ellie and gives up vengeance because it's only caused her pain, while Ellie hasn't. And Ellie realizes while killing Abby how similar their situation is. Ellie remembers how sad she was when Joel died, and how much Abby and Lev are like Ellie and Joel, and realized that she couldn't do that to someone else. She too realizes that revenge has only caused her pain, and she decides to give up. She did the right thing

@@sabastjanadams1829 Stop romanticizing revenge stories like it's a good thing, the entire point of TLOU2 was how revenge begets a cycle of violence and if you continue to be stuck within it you will lose everything. And John Wick is purely just a power fantasy character anyway.
But to argue with your point, John Wick in the first movie was someone who lost his wife, with their last connection being the dog she gave him. The dog gets killed and at that point he basically lost everything he held near and dear to, so he goes on a killing spree purely out of hate and spite. And following the events of the movies, you can see the consequences of him killing the guy who killed his dog, he's constantly being hunted and on the run, nothing gets solved with him killing the dude and it just created more problems for Wick.
Ellie on the other hand in TLOU2 was someone who was in a loving community, with a decent life of relative ease, she has a love interest, good friends and a loving father that she unfortunately was resenting at the time. She lost him to one of the people he crossed in the past, this was inevitable, his karma and shadow would eventually catch up to him. Now whether or not his death could have been written better is up for debate, personally I had no problems with it aside from the emotional distress it caused me. But her being so trapped in her guilt of not being able to save Joel and how she didn't try to mend things earlier, instead spending 1-2 years resenting him for what he did. It caused her go down the path of destruction and she started to lose everything she cared for, and she was trapped in the cycle of violence that was started by Joel because he chose to save her. At the end when she was about to kill Abby, she has a flashback about the night before Joel's death where they talked about Ellie trying to forgive him for what he did. And this is exactly the point of the story of TLOU2, the theme of forgiveness and humanity, she chose to forgive Abby just as she started to forgive Joel, because killing her won't bring him back and she knows it, so she lets Abby go, because she also knows that killing her won't ease her pain and memories of Joel.
People say that "Oh but Ellie kill hundreds of people during her time in Seattle but she spares Abby?". First of all, exaggeration, second of all, people somehow can't see through the point that the 3 days Ellie spent in Seattle was when she was obsessed with finding Abby, and strictly struck by anger, resentment and guilt. Ellie's story is her descent down to her own personal hell and by the end of the game she manages to free herself out of it, to fully start the path of healing.
Even though John Wick kills the person who killed his dog, it didn't resolve the problem, instead it created more issues that he has to go through. That's the thing, you may not see it right away because he's so cool and he does cool moves, but what it did was made his life miserable now that he has a target on his back with countless people coming to kill him.
At this point I'm more prone to believe that the people who say stuff like this never even played the game themselves, they watched a few videos that parrot the same talking point with no critical thinking involved, or they did play a portion of it, everything flew right over their head and they just go watch the ending scene and maybe see a few comments they agree with and then just go criticize the game even though they themselves don't understand the themes and symbolism.

Javier Gomez thats the thing. You had a preconceived notion of what the game was to be. NEVER EVER DO THAT. Especially when its a studio as talented and creative as naughty dog. They don’t pull ANY punches with this game, which is why it is so fucking amazing and unique. It would’ve been terrible if it was just ellie and joel again. Not enough of an engagement to make an entire game over that storyline. Don’t get me wrong, I love Joel as much as you do, but I put my trust in the creators, and it payed off. I went into the game with no expectations, therefore i loved it. Anyone who goes into this game with certain expectations, is going to hate it.

Why does hate have to result in killing Abby. Ellie killed so many along the way and that fucks a person up. After losing everything she cared about, becoming someone she didn't recognize, Ellie had to let Abby go. Abby was a shell of a person when Ellie finally found her. There was no point, Ellie knew she wouldn't have gained anything, and Lev would have gone after her and the cycle of vengeance would begin anew. It had to end, and Ellie, by not killing Abby and letting go of her pain for Joel's brutal death put a stop to it. While I don't like Abby, she also lost everything she ever loved or cared about. Both of them deserve peace. That's the point of the game. Revenge solves absolutely nothing, causes more pain than good, and at some point - not matter the circumstances - you have to let it go. You have to walk away.

If I had to be honest, at least they could've have gone for forgiveness ending with Ellie accepting Joel death and follows along Abby after trying to fist fight for no absolute reason and release her.
We still get this forgiveness but all those pointless fight, losing fingers, not even talking a damn about their past is absurd making this whole ending feels empty especially for Abby.
This whole game is a crap and at least they could've gone for a goddamn typical ending to make the player feel better but no.
Revenges fails, both Ellie and Abby didn't get to say a word about "I forgive you"(this word is really strong when used properly), Ellie left alone, Abby escape with Lev, Ellie couldn't play guitar due missing fingers.

I didnt play the first part so I was kinda neutral with Abby and Ellie. Seems like a lot of people hate Abby but I disagree. Both Ellie and Abby killed a lot of friends of each other. So thats why im neutral. However the ending was honesty very disappointing. Just let Ellie be with Dina. That was a perfect ending. To just go after Abby was pointless and the final fist fight was even worse. It had literally nothing inside of that scene.

The ending was one of the most powerful endings in a video game. The game isnt about revenge is bad only. Its about Ellie finally going to find closure to her journey. Its about forgiveness and humanity. Its about ellie's emotions and feelings and not the player's. Its about finally finding her peace through all the guilt she has carried in all these years to herself and joel's. She finally found peace by letting abby go, that means forgiving joel and moving on. Look at it from ellie's perspective. Not yours.

The point was for none of them to have a happy ending.I realized the point of the story in their final fight. It just shows the cycle of revenge and where it gets you. Loved the ending to be honest.
It took me a little while to come to the same conclusion. I took a step back, looked at from a different perspective, and started to appreciate it a little bit more.
Everyone is butt hurt cause they didn't get the ending which they would've preferred. I personally loved the game and never wanted Ellie to go after Abby to take revenge, even when she did I am glad she didn't go through with it.
There's a short that freaking explains this better than the game and it only lasts 3 or 4 minutes, and it's free.
I mean, this is meh, but Abby still deserved to be destroyed by Ellie.

Ellie’s learned her lesson the hard way but is ultimately haunted by what has been done to her and what she had done. She’s lost everything,( friends and family, the ability to play guitar, her vengeance, her home, the cure)at the end and has to regain her purpose and a sense of who she is. It is kind of a non-ending, the whole point of the game, killing Abby, doesn’t happen however that also happened in the 1st game, no vaccine is created. But instead of gaining a home and father, again, Ellie has lost everything, which is a cool way to flip the first ending on it’s head.

Joel giving away his identity to a complete stranger is absolutely bad writing considering the conversation we witness him have at the very beginning with Tommy.
Tommy, who always seemed more trusting gave it away. Abby knew it, Joel was forced into having to go to Abby’s crew for safety. While Tommy is comfortable with the new group, you can clearly see how uneasy Joel is just being in the room. He hasn’t lost his untrustworthyness
I love how everyone mad at the ending willfully misinterprets it to the highest degree and forgets that Lev is even a factor here.
Lev sends a bad fucking message that if you're a child who didn't develop a full fucking brain can be responsible for choices like change his gender even at the cost of his mother's hatred and death, sister's death and banishment from his community all so that people start calling it a he instead of a she
And ellie leaving abby just makes no sense and literally out of the blue

She knew killing her wouldn't bring Joel back. They all had suffered from life/ people tremendously. Plus seeing her all weak with a kid to care for hit Ellie after JJ. And y'all be forgetting Abby showed Ellie Mercy multiple times (she Killed Joel & Jesse she could've took out Dina also but didn't because of Lev).
Also if you think about it Ellie and the team took out way more people than Abby's crew did (which arguably was justified to begin with). It's just a shame Abby didn't have a change of heart after Joel saved her (but then we'd have no story = No game to play LOL 😆).

Harpreet Mangat “Bad writing” In the first game, Joel drives past a person who is injured when Ellie wanted to help out. Turns out, Joel was right because that injured person was indeed a bandit that wanted to hurt them. Joel also has a lot of trust issues in the first game as well. Joel knows that people would be after him in the end of the first game.

Ellie isn’t alone, both Abby and Ellie got a somewhat happy ending. Pay attention to detail. When she left for Santa Barbara she didn’t have Dina’s bracelet. When she came back to the farm and everything was gone, Dina’s bracelet was on her wrist. Plus, she didn’t have any visible weapons, neither was she limping from the wound on her stomach and her fingers looked cauterized. She visited Jackson and then went to the farm so she could leave her bad memories behind, hence her playing Joel’s guitar one final time before walking away from it (Leaving the bad memories she had with him behind.)
I wish there gonna be a DLC where tommy still hunts down abby and shoot her dead, or feed her to infected to complete ellie revenge
