If Imu is queen Lilly from 800 years ago only makes sense she was granted youth by a user of the Ope Ope no Mi. I Don't think it's a coincidence in 1081 Black beard mention after defeating Law about making him immortal. Kinda reminds the readers about his devil fruits power.
What makes me think that it is a possibility, although I'm not totally sold, that Lili *is* Imu was actually when they mention how she didn't pledged with her sword. Instead of reading it as she disagreed on the formation of the World Government with its empty throne it could be read as she disagreed about how no one should be sitting on the throne (since she wanted it herself).

The rulers family were accepted as celestial dragons as a rewards for not asking any question. Maybe lili was the only one that tried to escape and managed to send this letter.
Not sure if you heard of the Lili theory that she ended up and founded Amazon Lily. It's possible that Imu is a bit similar to Boa so everyone loves her although she does not turn them to stone.
Notice, like you said Buggy pointed out Shank's potential so early on; but he also was the one to point out Blackbeard as well (way back in Oden's flashback). I feel like Buggy has a good read on people.
My favorite parts of the recent chapters and even Egghead as a whole has been the whole Inversion of Sabody Archipelago/Marineford moments and theorizing what's to come. All the SA characters returning in Egghead (Kuma, Bonney, Sentamaru, Kizuru, etc), Garps arrival on Hachinosu mirroring Whitebeard's with Sabo mirroring Ace/Luffy, Buggy having his Whitebeard "THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!!" moment.
The Lili theory I'm running with is that she was Toki. She knew the WG would be after her and she didn't want to cause trouble for her homeland (thus leaving her brother in charge to rule), this was after whatever happened with JoyBoy and the country that is hidden from the world, so she wanted to go somewhere she knew she'd be safe - Wano, who was closing their borders. So she changes her name to Toki (reference to her fruit, so she'd never forget the past) and zoops into the future. There she meets Oden, realises Wano is still closed and that she's probably safely thought to be dead by the WG, so goes on a world tour to check out what happened while she was gone. She has a sword (one is missing from the 20 that are supposed to be in front of the throne), she has similarly coloured hair to Vivi (genetics over 800 years can change it a bit, but if we look at Vivi and Titi, it seems to breed true (consider her father has black hair but hers is a light blue like her mother)), and she was definitely running from something 800 years ago seeing that she zooped into the future. I think it fits pretty well. She eventually died but she knew that there was something coming in the future and sent her son to meet it, knew a lot more than she let on. It was my first thought when I heard about a mysteriously queen who vanished and damnit, we know that Toki is going to come back up in some way, shape or form, so this is a good connector (imo). Lemme have this Oda. You're not gonna give us crocomum so let me have this. ;.;
Arabasta’s poneglyph also talks about the location of Pluton (that being Wano), which would give her another reason for her insistence on making it there. If her family is the only one that didn’t give up their right to sit on the empty throne, then potentially Momo as her heir could have a legitimate claim
Man I already feel the need to reread Wano. because i can't remember if they confirmed her death with a body. Because if this theory is true then there is a good chance she just hopped into the future somewhere.
@@mr.protagonist5639 While I'm pretty sure they didn't confirm her death, I don't think she would have left her daughter alone for 20 years - if she intended to future zoop out of danger, maybe 2-3 years and then meet back up with at least one of her children to make sure they were safe and raised with love. I do believe she's dead, but I think the words she left behind are foretelling the return of Joyboy and the revelations found on the ponyglyphs. Also, with the new chapter information, this would make Momo a D, and Toki/Lili would have even more reason to dip to the future to make sure the ponyglyphs were protected - travelling with Roger probably set her mind at ease, knowing that they hadn't been lost to history and that people were still searching for them. That she'd done well in spreading the D.

Something I see people rarely mention: if Cobra apparently had all of this knowledge passed down to him, did he pass it on to Vivi before meeting the Gorosei/Imu? That would mean we have Vivi who potentially has all this info travelling with *Morgans*, the owner of the biggest newspaper company in the world, who has been known to publish things the WG has disapproved of in the past…
I don't know if someone already mentioned this theory, but: What if lily was being hunted by imu, and instead of going to arabasta she went and settled on Amazon lily, becoming the first empress and founding the island of women? Also the idea that imu might be lily's kid sounds interesting
you make a really great point with why kobra bothered to ask if he knew one or all of his questions could get him killed but i definitely dont think he knew imu existed prior to them walking in let alone knew they were listening in
I think vivi knows what cobra knows and has to hide from the government and cobra only went in 2 confirm his suspicious. With cobra being killed vivi now know that information is valid and has to get to the straw hats
5:29 We all live under that impression, Merph, don't worry about it xDD As for Im or Imu, there's not truly way of knowing, because it's spelled in katakana as イム (I Mu), but katakana is a syllabary used to write phonetic approximations to foreign words, and due to it being composed of syllables that in most cases are "consonant + vowel" they tend to add an extra vowel (an O or a U) if a syllable would end in a consonant (for example, Piece, as in One Piece, that phonetically would be expressed as /piːs/, is spelled ピース or Piisu/Pīsu: ピ = pi, ー = makes the last vowel longer (so ī or ii), ス = Su). On top of that, those final vowels, even when they belong in a Japanese word, are barely pronounced: If you were asked your name, you would reply "Merphy desu" (I'm Merphy), but that last U is barely audible or even non-existent in many cases, ending up as "Merphy des". So now that イム has already appeared in the anime, we can't still be sure if it's meant to be Im or Imu, because you hear "Im" but that final U could still be there. It's the same reason we used to believe Laugh Tale was called Raftel: ラフテル can be anything from "La Hu Te Lu" to "Ra Fu Te Ru" (Ls and Rs, same as Fs and Hs are interchangeable), it was initially translated as Rafutelu, and then the Us taken away to form Raftel (I'm guessing because of "raft"), but it was Lafutelu, again removing those "final" Us getting away, to form Laf Tel, a ver simple phonetic approximation to Laugh Tale
I think Buggy and Ussopp are very similiar. Buggy's treasure map map was Ussop's Going Merry. These thinhs symbolized thier own personal doubt in thier ability. Both are held back in thier doubt in thier power and fear of weakness. I think somehow Buggy will end up helping Shanks get to Laughtale. Them reconciling and getting to Laughtale. Buggy helping a wounded Shanks will be Buggy reaching his dream by proving his worth.
It's weird how nobody picks up on the fact that Buggy is literally "bugged" as in a program that doesn't work as it is supposed to. Matches with his ability to fail upwards, honestly.
I actually never quite put two and two together about the celestial dragons being a kind of scapegoat for Im to rule the world unseen until you said it. 😅
I had such a big laugh with your "let split the difference..... with SABO... that was not what I was expecting... then go to lili only for you to still get the last laugh with buggy, pun intended.
I wait for this video sooooo muchhh, needed Buggy content!! Thank you!! I saw the other video, Buggy and the end, I have this horrible theory of Buggy and Shanks been the Severus Snape and Aldbus Dumbledore of One Piece, given theirs live just so Luffy follows Roge's will, and Luffy declaring at the end that the real pirate king was Buggy, the Pirate God at the end!! But yeah that would be so sad
Sengoku and Garp are interesting because they show opposite paths of Marine success. Garp could've easily became an Admiral but stuck to his ideals and turned it down in order to do what he saw as the most good. Sengoku grew up in the Marines alongside Garp and became Fleet Admiral, which put him under direct command of the Celestial Dragons. Sengoku isn't bad but he is passive to the WGs directives meanwhile Garp is free to act (much like Luffy) against their orders. Time will tell if Sengoku or Tsuru will join Garp's way of doing things but it's an interesting view of the Marine system and freedom if anything.
I saw a really interesting theory in the comments under the chapter on why Imu-sama may have been able to live as long as they have. It was basically that the air on Marie Geoise has life sustaining properties and thats why its referred to as the HolyLand and since Im has never left, theyve never aged. In comparison, the Celestial Dragons regularly leave and go down to the blue sea for tourism (Saint Jalmac during the ASL flashback) or just to purchase slaves, so they end up breathing the air on the sea and age as a result of that. This could also give a more concrete explanation on why the Celestial Dragons dress the way they do and give off astronaut/alien vibes. When it comes to the Gorosei, I think that there have probably been several generations of the 5 Elders, but not as many as the celestial dragons bc they only go down to the Blue Sea for specific missions (like Saint Jay Garcia Saturn heading to Egghead Island rn). That would explain they have varying ages and also why their appearances didnt seem to differ from now to the time that Vegapunk met the 5 Elders after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in the cover story. Idk how supported this theory is overall by the text but the idea is really cool to me.
ooh you just inspired me. Maybe the backstory behind it is more tragic than we think? What if Lili had the immortality surgery unwillingly done to her to save her life? She's like an amalgamation of Roger and Vivi, 800 years ago. As a result of the surgery she takes on a new name - Im. She had the surgery performed at Amazon Lily because there are heaps of connections there. Alternatively Lili was Im's mother, or should I say Mimi -> backwards = Im Im
People are so confused with the chapter 1084, even big youtubers honestly. There is not a single chance imu being Lili. Imu's identity is a luffy-joyboy-gear 5 level revelation, (if not higher), like Roger son (ace), not a single chance oda gave away imu identity on a random episode, for absolutely no reason, with cobra. That's is like giving ace father information on episode 4 at alabasta arc, or give luffy's gear 5 on episode 3 in wano arc. That alone should be enough evidence that imu is not Lili. The whole interaction (imu calling Lili's name) is for oda to say that imu knew Lili(not through history books), which leads to the conclusion that imu was alive at Lili's era. But how was imu alive all those years? Imu having the law fruit surgery is a way(highly doubt it, law fruit only gives some kind of immortality, doesn't give power) but doesn't explain why the gorosei are kneeling to him (gorosei having all the navy-world government - holy knights - and probably are strong as fuck since they look more like fighters than anything). A way better theory would be of imu not being human so he doesn't have a human lifespan, and by gorosei addressing him as Great-Imu(greater than gorosei, gorosei are humans) it reinforces this theory.
Yeah i think lili Was the first to rebel against imu and got killed for it. Makes more sense for me with that Letter and how the nefertari dynasty Was hiding their poneglyph
5:28 "And I live under the assumption that Tekking knows more than me and pretty much everything" One of us! One of us! One of us! Honestly, I don't think anyone cares if you call them Imu or Im. Certainly no one is going to try to correct Mr. Encyclopedia himself lol
The multifaceted facial gestures of Cobra really seems like he was genuinely surprised that, at the very least his worst fear possible was right in front of him, not that he was absolutely knowing/confident that someone was really controlling everything. Although, his face earlier does get pretty disappointed and somewhat angry when the Gorosei gave a BS answer before asking about D, maybe implying that he does know something big is different than what they're saying. Overall he does give a vibe that he might just be asking questions without a plan, but after thinking we all know that isn't the case. But that misconstrued vibe being given off does lead me also to believe that his multifaceted gesture really did not expect Imu to happen.
Something I find ironic about the role of the admirals is that because their powers are so destructive that trying to protect the Dragons at homebase puts them at a major disadvantage. They cant flex in an area where there cant be any collateral damage. The Revolutionaries were super smart playing the right cards at the right time.
I think Imu is Lili or one of her descendant. Mostly because of what Cobra said , I quote : "Internally, the 20 were considered equal. And to ensure that no individual dictator would rise up from among them they installed the empty throne. Each of them placed a weapon around the throne, to symbolize their VOW to NEVER TRY and sit upon it." However there's only 19 swords. Lily's sword is missing among the 20 : symbolicaly, it means she never took the vow. She never came back in Alabasta neither. The easy explanation would be that she was murdered during her return journey. But maybe... just maybe... she actually never left Mariegoise. Plus the fact Imu spared Vivi’s picture could also be a hint on their bloodline connection.
The only issue I have with this theory is that she left a letter behind talking about the D, among other things, that if she took over the WG she would NOT have wanted to get out. You could say 'familial sentimentality' overruled her desire to stamp out all and every reference to D, but even if that was the case, why wouldn't she have sent someone to get the letter back on the sly? Why would she have sent it to begin with? It's a small detraction but I think a big enough one to put that theory to serious question. unless, get this, she doesn't remember!!! and that's why she's all like "Lili..." because it's ringing a bell but doesn't know it's her own name. Maybe she's starting to figure out that sommat ain't right in her brain... of course, that's completely off the tracks theorizing. XD

Not sure if you heard of the Lili theory that she ended up and founded Amazon Lily. It's possible that Imu is a bit similar to Boa so everyone loves her although she does not turn them to stone.
Fujitora saw his chance, and man was he tempted. If only he'd actually dropped the meteor
just here the Tekking reference
i love it
she watches tekking
everyone who wants more of OP watch him
nice
The Lili theory I'm running with is that she was Toki. She knew the WG would be after her and she didn't want to cause trouble for her homeland (thus leaving her brother in charge to rule), this was after whatever happened with JoyBoy and the country that is hidden from the world, so she wanted to go somewhere she knew she'd be safe - Wano, who was closing their borders. So she changes her name to Toki (reference to her fruit, so she'd never forget the past) and zoops into the future. There she meets Oden, realises Wano is still closed and that she's probably safely thought to be dead by the WG, so goes on a world tour to check out what happened while she was gone.
She has a sword (one is missing from the 20 that are supposed to be in front of the throne), she has similarly coloured hair to Vivi (genetics over 800 years can change it a bit, but if we look at Vivi and Titi, it seems to breed true (consider her father has black hair but hers is a light blue like her mother)), and she was definitely running from something 800 years ago seeing that she zooped into the future.
I think it fits pretty well. She eventually died but she knew that there was something coming in the future and sent her son to meet it, knew a lot more than she let on. It was my first thought when I heard about a mysteriously queen who vanished and damnit, we know that Toki is going to come back up in some way, shape or form, so this is a good connector (imo).
Lemme have this Oda. You're not gonna give us crocomum so let me have this. ;.;
Arabasta’s poneglyph also talks about the location of Pluton (that being Wano), which would give her another reason for her insistence on making it there.
I was waiting for this because of buggy chapter , his best chapter in the story
Buggy is an icon and we must follow him!
I love when merphy talks about beloved one piece youtubers as if she isn't among the best herself❤
Tekking called Kroom K-Room for the longest time....he knows alot but dont let him fool you he gets stuff wrong too 😂
This final saga does not let you breathe.....bangers after bangers....this is definitely the best time to be a One Piece fan❤
I'm very happy you felt validated when you heard that buggy was gonna start racing towards laugh tale as well :D! I always love it when one piece predictions somewhat come true. OH OH AND BY THE WAY. You know how people are theorising about shanks having an evil twin because of this shadowy figure? Well I just find it hilarious because you mentioned shanks having an evil clone when you were making your tier list of characters to join your crew XD!!!! So I'm just sayin,,, #MURPHYTHEORIESCOMETRUE!!!!!
Definitely a coincidence but I appreciate the irony of it 😂
I have always liked buggy...but your outlook on his character has absolutely made me LOVE his character....and rightfully so...your insights into his character are spot on 🙌🏼
0:21 I had to the stop the video here for a sec, I wasn't ready for that at all
Something I see people rarely mention: if Cobra apparently had all of this knowledge passed down to him, did he pass it on to Vivi before meeting the Gorosei/Imu?
That would mean we have Vivi who potentially has all this info travelling with *Morgans*, the owner of the biggest newspaper company in the world, who has been known to publish things the WG has disapproved of in the past…
This final saga has just been phenomenal. Everytime I think Oda can't make the story more compelling he finds a way
Your Perona rping is always flawless 😂
The respect on Tekking's name as the One Piece encyclopedia is fantastic
13:49 I play Pot of Greed! This card allows me to draw two cards from my deck.
Love the new basement dungeon setup, would love to see more of it in the future
I remember when my Pc broke suddenly a year ago and I took a night to binge your one piece jouney. That really helped.
Was unaware Perona Merphy was a thing 😂😂. W ad
As soon as Buggy gave that speech I couldn’t wait to here her review about it. I knew she would love it.
I don't know if someone already mentioned this theory, but:
What if lily was being hunted by imu, and instead of going to arabasta she went and settled on Amazon lily, becoming the first empress and founding the island of women?
Also the idea that imu might be lily's kid sounds interesting
18:45 - I think only Luffy’s reaching Laughtale.
you make a really great point with why kobra bothered to ask if he knew one or all of his questions could get him killed but i definitely dont think he knew imu existed prior to them walking in let alone knew they were listening in
As Mihawk himself once said, "The ability to make allies wherever he goes is the most formidable on the sea."
I love a Merphy sponsor sketch!
nooo the green screen! lol omg you cosplaying is adorable great video
Finally. When I saw the buggy stuff come out I've been waiting to see your reaction
ive been waiting for you to talk about buggy in 1082, you should talk about buggy more
I think vivi knows what cobra knows and has to hide from the government and cobra only went in 2 confirm his suspicious. With cobra being killed vivi now know that information is valid and has to get to the straw hats
You nailed it with the thumbnail, those reveals are UNEXPECTED to me 😱🥶👍💪👊
Strawhat grand fleet protecting mermaid princess is cool, since Fishman island is Luffy territory
Why does gruel makes me instantaneously think of Max Miller( Tasting History).
His image just popped into my head, first thing after I heard Gruel.
Mihawk said that Luffy has the most dangerous power, the ability to make everybody he meets into an ally.
Buggy absolutely has this power too
Loved the advertisement skit. Master class. Buggy Flesssh!!!!
5:29 We all live under that impression, Merph, don't worry about it xDD
As for Im or Imu, there's not truly way of knowing, because it's spelled in katakana as イム (I Mu), but katakana is a syllabary used to write phonetic approximations to foreign words, and due to it being composed of syllables that in most cases are "consonant + vowel" they tend to add an extra vowel (an O or a U) if a syllable would end in a consonant (for example, Piece, as in One Piece, that phonetically would be expressed as /piːs/, is spelled ピース or Piisu/Pīsu: ピ = pi, ー = makes the last vowel longer (so ī or ii), ス = Su).
Matches with his ability to fail upwards, honestly.
i like how Shirahoshi is the crybabay princess instead of the skyscraper sized mermaid to you
I actually never quite put two and two together about the celestial dragons being a kind of scapegoat for Im to rule the world unseen until you said it. 😅
The Perona laugh was great. Just put that in every video. lol
I had such a big laugh with your "let split the difference..... with SABO... that was not what I was expecting... then go to lili only for you to still get the last laugh with buggy, pun intended.
Your Perona laugh is actually really good lol
6:35 I can’t believe the D stands for Divorce. Thanks Lili
I honestly only clicked to hear you talk about Buggy. That chapter is probably top 10 for me!
I'm caught up with Merphy's videos! This is like being caught up with OP for the third time! (Manga + anime)
The more I watch Merphy the more I absolutely love her. 💖
2023 might end up being the best year in One Piece history
Just wait until the final battle where buggy awakens his devil fruit and can slice islands lol
As soon as the Buggy chapter dropped, I immediately was looking forward to your video!
When you read/drop 50 manga, do a manga tier list. I'm really excited for it.
love your reviews so much!!! makes the break week withdrawal a bit more bearable
Alternatively Lili was Im's mother, or should I say Mimi -> backwards = Im Im
both Im and Imu are right.... the thing is japanese don't like finishing words with m... so 'ice cream' is 'eyes creamu' in japanese....
God I caught up at such a good time lol, these recent chapters have been incredible
Using tekking as a source is a solid plan
5:28 "And I live under the assumption that Tekking knows more than me and pretty much everything"
One of us! One of us! One of us!
Honestly, I don't think anyone cares if you call them Imu or Im. Certainly no one is going to try to correct Mr. Encyclopedia himself lol
I will admit I've always seen the route that the "final war" takes being a Davy back fight and it feels like buggy is gonna be the one to start it
Merphy's ads just hit different. I love them 😂😂
The multifaceted facial gestures of Cobra really seems like he was genuinely surprised that, at the very least his worst fear possible was right in front of him, not that he was absolutely knowing/confident that someone was really controlling everything.
Buggy makes me cry...again and again...he is THE PIRATE KING (the world just dindt notice yet....)
Mostly because of what Cobra said , I quote :
"Internally, the 20 were considered equal. And to ensure that no individual dictator would rise up from among them they installed the empty throne. Each of them placed a weapon around the throne, to symbolize their VOW to NEVER TRY and sit upon it."
However there's only 19 swords.
XD
I was waiting for this video since that Buggy's speech since I knew Merphy gonna freak out, and here we are
@MerphyNapier I have that same keyboard! Its so cute and I love the colors. Love the review and look forward to future content!
