I swear Tomlin's gameplan is, "let's do what we always do and see if they can stop it," week in week out. There is no creativity in the offensive gameplan, there is nothing exotic in the defensive gameplan. The coordinators may have changed, the players may have changed, but it's the same thing we've always complained about. Tomlin thinks his players are better than yours, and can beat you by being more physical, and when it doesnt happen, he just stands there looking like a deer in the headlights.

Run up the middle, run up the middle, deep ball down the sideline. U want something different? How bout a WR screen with no blockers, don’t worry we think our guy can catch it while already getting tackled, shed that, juke out another defender who’s closing in fast, best case scenario that’ll give us 1 yard if we can fall forward, but we like our chances
Bad O line. Not enough time to get to a second read. Arthur Smith = Run, Run, 3rd and long. Run, Run, 3rd and Long. Then blame Russ. Smith runs the least creative offense in the league. Gotta have a creative short passing game to open up the Run game AND the deep ball. Without it they only way Smith keeps his job is to keep blaming Russ.
Smith isn't blaming Russ. Smith can get a job as a HC, he doesn't need to blame anybody. Russ is just straight trash. Throwing red zone INTs, fumbling at critical moments, taking sack after sack, missing open receivers damn near every play in favor of check downs. He had 3 chances to beat the Bengals who had one of the worst Ds in the league and he couldn't do it, straight up playing like a rookie not throwing the ball away or running out of bounds in that final minute in favor a few yard run. No more excuses, Russ needs to go after this year 100%.
It’s not that Russ has proven himself great, but *no* QB, unless they bring Rothlisberger back, can do anything with absolutely zero pocket or pass blocking. Big Ben could (sometimes) literally push D-linemen off with one arm to buy time. Also had a great pump fake. The lack of an o-line in those years probably shortened his career, though. If they could give the QB time, he could explore the options Orlovsky mentions here. Russ is also short. No pocket, can’t see those routes, so has to lob it deep or throw perpendicular to the sideline. Dooms the passing attack. So they try to do it with play action, but as that’s their only option, it’s predictable and predictably fails. I’d rather see them try to throw on first down more, or even integrate Fields as a runner, but the total lack of o-line is lights out. Just nothing for anybody to work with. Watch the Lions (Goff) sometime, or films of Brady. Those guy stand back there surveying the field for what seems like hours to a Steelers fan. That’s a *totally* different sport. Every play with the Steelers is either a run, a sideways check down, or a Hail Mary. Because nobody blocks anybody.
Funny thing, Denver fans were blaming Sean Payton for the simple offense and said he was sabotaging Russ. Russ has limitations and defenses know what those are.
Anyone who watched Russ play the last two seasons could have told you this would happen. He's an older QB with a great arm, average mobility and below average vision and ability to read defenses. Dude throws a couple of passes over the middle early in the season and everyone assumed he was back. Don't fall for it, he's not the guy he used to be.
@archon9383 well yeah when guy's are open they usually get the pass. It's about scheme. He can't read defenses well, but he can still make a good play in a breakdown. If they practiced it. So far they are a step behind in play calling, in the trenches and in the route tree. So unless he decided to make A LOT more risky throws, Russ really doesn't have much to work with. I mean if they could've ran the ball at ALL, things would've opened up at least a little
@@Magucci13he definitely CAN read defenses. You see it in his adjustments at the line and his throws when they actually let him. That's what it COULD be if the coaches weren't blind.

Tomlin does what he's told by the front office. Look at his face on the sidelines at 11-3 and then look at it at 11-4. I guarantee you they had a "meeting" Upstairs to keep him on track. Just like I'm sure Pickens had a bad hammy when they needed him most. Russ throws for 400 yards to ten targets and slides to 130 yards and two or three targets in a couple of games ? Personnel sit on the bench while the game goes down the shitter ? C'mon. Get a white coach in Pittsburgh and see how the tide changes. The good ol' boy billionaire club ain't letting Tomlin win a SB.

its level of opponent, nothing more , they played better teams. i don't understand this logic, y'all pick someone to lose and then become surprise when they lose. Chiefs, Ravens, Eagles, Bengals, which of these games did you pick them to win.
It's not. They turtled their offense by following Tomlin's strategies. You can see it when the first play of every drive is some crap to najee that goes nowhere. The 3 and outs are all just bad choices. I'd agree if they had been playing similar schemes, but they made a radical change and can't recognize that it's flopped.

Tomlin benched Fields because of an infatuation with Russ' legacy as a 9-time pro bowler and super bowl winner. The last five games are proof those days are long gone. Pittsburgh ain't Seattle and Russ is no spring chicken. He padded his stats versus sub .500 teams and the Russ pom pom boys fell for it hook, line, and sinker, only to watch his stats plummet versus playoff caliber defenses. Say what you want but Fields offense averaged more points than that in a total rebuild year with the lowly Chicago Bears lol! And he did it with offensive pieces that were even worse than what the Steelers have. FACTS! @@alexm2889 Lol BS! Fields was 4-2 and very easily could have been 5-1. He was benched because Tomlin declared Russ the starter from day 1 and never waivered from that position. How bout the fumble on the BAL 3-yard line and the sacks for loss? Are three-and-outs on damn near every drive not painful to watch? I guess you enjoy 5 game losing streaks and a stagnant offense. Wait, but I thought you said the offense doubled? It was all a mirage. The offense was never that good. But yeah, you can drink the Kool-Aid if you want to. Have another glass on me. The REAL offense is what we've seen the last 5 weeks. The blueprint for the Steelers to win games has always flowed through the defense. There's a reason they spent $250M on that side of the ball, because they want it that way.
It's not rocket science. When the steelers lost to the eagles they lost to the team that arguably has the most talent on it's roster top to bottom in the NFL and after losing to the chiefs, ravens and Bengals through a horrible stretch of scheduling for Pittsburgh against teams that all have elite QB talent while the steelers are making a dollar out of fifteen cents with a 36 year old QB trying to fight against father time despite having been picked to have their first losing season under Tomlin back before the season started. I could continue but I don't need to if you have have any football common sense at all. Everyone that has ever watched their games knows this except Tomlin and company...
I guess he would know with all them trophies he has stacked up .
How can u use middle of the field when the o line in ur lap vs top teams.dan couldn't throw n he had Calvin Johnson.russ jus gotta scramble if his first two looks aren't there.slide or get dwn
Should have stuck with Fields. What's starting to show is that Tomlin isn't getting it with young QBs. Ben was a dude when he took over.
Ben would shake off the calls from the sideline and call his own plays as he knew the coaching was wrong.
Cover 2 shell shuts Russ down. Until he figures out a response , teams will keep doing this
By the time he figures it out it's too late☹️
The offensive line is garbage and for some reason, the defense forgot how to stop the pass. They can stop the run, but if the QB throws it, he's reaching his target. I know my guys in black and gold can do it... I'm just wondering when. Lol.
The Steelers don’t scout themselves and if they do don’t believe what they see!!!! Expecting the other teams not to adjust is delusional as usual!!!
Hey Dan, the only thing wrong with the Steelers is Mike Tomlin. You are barking up the wrong banana tree.
its level of opponent, nothing more , they played better teams. i don't understand this logic, y'all pick someone to lose and then become surprise when they lose. Chiefs, Ravens, Eagles, Bengals, which of these games did you pick them to win.
When we beat the ravens I wanna hear your excuses
It's not. They turtled their offense by following Tomlin's strategies. You can see it when the first play of every drive is some crap to najee that goes nowhere. The 3 and outs are all just bad choices. I'd agree if they had been playing similar schemes, but they made a radical change and can't recognize that it's flopped.
@@alexm2889 all that is irrelevant, teams can try to adjust based off who they play that week, you’re not gonna play the Eagles the same way you play the panthers. Which of those games, did you have them winning.
@@oneminutemann that's exactly the point. Tomlin plays every team the same. Run run pass. And if the run game gets stimied, there's nothing left. He needs to use the pass to open up the run when that's what the defense gives them, but he either refused to or is too dumb to do it.
Dan was right all along
Nice shirt Dan lol
When your tackles stink it’s hard to run a good offense. Dan Moore and Broderick “Jabba the Hut” jones have been lousy.
The offense is averaging a dismal 14 pts a game over this 5 game losing streak. Say what you want but Fields offense averaged more points than that in a total rebuild year with the lowly Chicago Bears lol! And he did it with offensive pieces that were even worse than what the Steelers have. FACTS! Time to stop pretending that Fields was the problem with the offense and admit that whatever Tomlin was looking for by switching to Russ ain't there!
Fields is a terrible qb who can't read the field. He was benched because his own play was bad and russ was finally healthy.
@@alexm2889 Lol BS! Fields was 4-2 and very easily could have been 5-1. He was benched because Tomlin declared Russ the starter from day 1 and never waivered from that position. Fields could have went 6-0 and he still would have benched him. But nice try though. By the way, the offense has looked worse over the last 5 weeks than it ever did with Fields. But don't tell that to all the fools that drank the Kool-Aid. Tomlin got you fools believing lol! 🤡
@@Greg_211 did you watch them? They couldn't put up points. Fields had like 100 yards in his last game. It was hard to watch. They were winning on defense. Their offensive scoring DOUBLED when russ took over.
@@Greg_211 and it's definitely all Tomlin's fault. Fields really couldn't hack it, but now Tomlin is putting the offense on najees shoulders and it's not working at all... And obviously no adjustments.
@@alexm2889 I watched every game this year. Sure, the passing offense improved with Russ but the red zone production and the run game game suffered. Pick your poison. Where's the offense been over the last five weeks? Do you enjoy watching Russ throw INTs in the end zone? How bout the pick 6 that sealed the loss in Baltimore?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are done their offense is broken
Arthur Smith stinks.
Move Pickens in the slot sometimes!
Pittsburgh fans habitually overrate the scope of talent on their roster and blame the coach after he has made chicken salad ish.
Their offensive line is bad of course.
Oh my god's NFL analysts are the worst. George pickens didn't even play in those games. Russ killed cincinnati check downing over the middle. Run after the catch. That's what nfl defenses took away.
Ravens 937 Pitt 4
Dan look like Waluigi
The Onion is cap. Dan has an onion on his cap. Therefore...
Hmm, interesting 25% of WiIson passes are to the middle of the field, but he can't see. Same old crap from a nobody.
He's too short. Can't see over the line. Gets batted down too often.
Nonsense, last scoring drive last game Russ made every throw and scored. This team has NO NUMBER 1WR. And no good TE. Look at their Division. All the teams Qbs have way better weapons than Wilson and the stealers run game sucks.
So, what you’re saying is they suck!!!!
Sell Tomlin and buy an o-line.
Bottom line..both sides of the line sucks
Dan O is the dumbest "analyst" on TV. Will be glad when this DEI hire gets fired.
Trade tomlin to chicago
Steelers by 4.
surely, they can afford more than 4 tickets to the bills - ravens divisional match-up?
i mean they are paying almost nothing for russel wilson. thats a chunk of money there.
Dan is a 🤡
Dan O. Is giving advice about Wilson and the Steelers ?? 😂🤣😂 …because he was such a great player ?? 🤣😂🤣 Rich you are scraping the bottom of the barrel 🫵
By that logic you shouldn't be on here talking about football either.
This guy is the worst QB to ever play in the nfl how does he have the right to talk about football.
Oh yeah everyone does, even skip
Nick Saban was so bad at LB that he had to play at Kent State and never even got close to the NFL. What gives him the right to think he’s the best coach ever? 🙄
Even you…
