you can also freeze them into ice cubes and shove the cubes deep into the substrate, this will release the granules directly into the soil and they will slowly dissolve over the course of weeks...
@Cameron Hatzidakis The ice is only a method of placing them under the substrate. They wont immediately dissolve when under the substrate, it will take some time.

This is an outstanding idea. I'm gonna give it try. The thing is my substrate is sand. Do you think it will still work or would there some kind of adjustment to the formula?
probably decrease the potency or amount you add since sand doesnt have as much of the "reservoir" space between the sand particles to keep miracle gro in.
Pre-made has gone up so much in price! The only thing about this that concerns me? Is it really safe for fish? I have shrimp and since this has copper? I'm not sure
I have to give my dog intramuscular injections for Addison’s disease and my local feed store sells needles. I accidentally bought the wrong gauge once and plan on trying this method out with them!
Rhizome plants are mainly water column feeders, so yes although you should dose less if it's a low-light/tech planted tank only. Copper can harm snails, but they do need it in very small amounts for good health.
@@DaughterCesar I'm not sure, but I'd only use brand-names for livestock safety. EasyGreen or Flourish is a good liquid fertilizer for rhizome plants. Used Flourish to grow low-light plants and currently EasyGreen for moderate light plants.
hello, how much and how often depends on how many plants are in your tank. Fully planted, I would use every 2 weeks. The solution I made is concentrated, and used for 3 tanks. If you only have 1 tank, do not add more than 9 ml of the fert solution at a time per 10 gal.
I recently started using Miracle grow to grow vegetables Hydroponically. I found a study a University in Washington did on ferts. They found that Miracle grow had much less bad stuff in it than some expensive organic ferts. Stuff like Arsenic was way lower in Miracle gro . I am going to give this a try in my tank soon.
If I mix 1 teaspoon with 36 mls and I have a 55 gallon planted fish tank. After mixed after measuring a 48 1/4 x 12 3/4 x 21 thats the measurements of a 55 gallon aquarium with 1 ml in a syringe every 3 inches that is 64.33 mls every two weeks. In the comment below it says do not add more than 9ml of the fert of the solution per 10 gallons. The calculation is more then that every 3 inches would be 64.33 mls for a 55 gallon. Do you recommend I use 49.5 mls every two weeks? That is 9mls for 55 gallons 55\10=5.5 x 9= 49.5 mls every 2 weeks???
Hi Jeremy, as I said in the comment the solution you see in the video was used for 3 tanks. I do not recommend adding more than 49ml for you. In fact, I would ramp up application if you are not comfortable with making a large amount. Start with 1 ml every 6 inches, really make sure you are injecting with a needle far into the substrate. Then do your water change. If you are okay after 2 weeks, you can try again in areas which you have not covered. Please make sure you don’t have fish that will dig in your substrate.
@@AvatarAquatics alright thank you. What do you think about if I mixed some in a squirt bottle and added that to the take every so often? They sale fertilizers that you can squirt into the tank once in a while. What about if I put it in a doser. How much mls and how often do you think that would work if possible?
I cannot tell you what exactly is in the fertilizer, so I would try without fish or shrimp first. You can see if plants do better, and test the water every day for a week to see if any toxic ammonia come out.
hi, would this work with normal gravel/ non nutrient substrate? or would it work with nutrient soil. if i do this i dont need root tabs? all of this seems so complicated i was just planning on doing the walstad method but this seems promising and cheap.
I will let you know...I have a high tech 40g breeder with larger gravel. CO2 & Fluval 3.0 light. I can't get enough nitrogen to my plants. I dose a lot of All In One fertilizer & it never keeps up.
Nitrogen is not needed in established tanks with fish. I don’t recommend doing this because it defeats the purpose of plants sucking up nitrates byproduct of fish waste.
I been using this method for years lol never had an issue, glad someone else figured it and shared it around:)
Will this help me feed my rhizome plants ?
I was wondering if I could use Miracle-Gro thanks for sharing

Yes. You would have to use a dosage calculator to get the right amount, but it could be added to clay and used as a root tab.
