Installing the Gas Tank (Van Build 17)

- It's interesting how Lou is transforming all the footage into these specific #vanbuild topics like - the toilet, the bed frame, or today's gas tank. In reality, we were working on so many different things and doing so much in the last 45 days of the build that it all seems like a blur now. We had a list of things to accomplish and just woke up every morning hoping to tackle more than we had been able to the day before.
I have to admit though if it wasn't for Alfie I don't think I would have made it through our time in Spain in one piece. He brought so much playfulness to a sometimes tense mad-dash to finish Ody before our lease was up. I miss waking up and having him greet us and running through the mountains with him, but I'm happy he can keep living out his country life dream. Travel is such a strange thing because you get to experience so many new things, grow to love them, and then just like that you leave them behind. It really has pushed me to live in the moment because you never know how long a certain experience will last as there is always another adventure to experience.

We would have for sure but we couldn't find any at the store and shipping is a nightmare! ---Lou
it would be fun to get a number at the end of exactly how many days/hours were spent solidly working the van
Yeah with the rain delays and half days its turned into a super long project, plus driving 2 hours to get supplies, and having to drive 2 hours to pick up packages that can't be delivered to the house, the whole thing has been so much harder because we are on top of a mountain in spain than in the suburbs in the US, but if I had to estimate I'd say its been about 2-3 months of daily hard work, but if you werent filming you could cut that way down and get it done in a month or less depending on your skill level, and if you bought a newer van I think you could get a really nice build in 3 weeks, and a basic one in 2 : ) ---Lou

11:46 - You guys just needed some aluminum channel and rollers. With how that thing slid through the wall, you might have even been able to do it with sturdy drawer hardware.

Can't believe you made her carry that tank all that way, then when she got there, you made her put it away.
If you want to keep the door, you could always install a set of gate rollers and/or use modified bearings from a drawer. This would (should ; P) keep it from jamming and help it roll more smoothly.
Yeah we were very tempted to try and make it work but we ended up settling on a blackout curtain because we ran out of time and its just so much easier ; ) ---Lou

It's really impressive how much research and planning you have made to build this van with full equipment. Full size gas bottle, huge water tank, toilet, covered sink and cooker... you don't see this often in little vans like yours:) And your builder skills are amazing :) I think I will be repeating myself in next comments ;) BTW: I have read "Ada or Ardor" - great book, Lou was right :)

Nice video once again, as a guy living in Europe, (Greece basically) I would be really interested in knowing more about the logistics. Like how much money did the whole van thing costed, (if you want to share that), and more info about the inspection in Germany, the weight limit, and what is the official use of the vehicle?

The battery powered screwdriver is pretty amazing, but we're really in awe of all the bosch battery powered tools, they are super functional and work really well so we don't need electricity and can just build anywhere! ---Lou

Hey I’m a huge fan of yours and I know this video is from a month ago but I was thinking that you could add one of those foldable doors for the bathroom! It’s better than a courting and it’s not gonna take a huge space like the sliding one! I hope you could read this.
They are easy to instal because they are prefabricated and I’m sure they are cheap
Thanks so much for the tip Augusto! We thought about doing those foldable doors, but the thing is we dont have a standard size door and those ones are very hard to resize since the doors move on a solid track. And shockingly the curtain is working out way better than expected :) - Dana
